Their stuff looks lovely (online on skinny models anyway) - have heard a few good things recently as i had written them off a few years ago. Anyone use them and happy with the product, quality, returns etc

i hate online clothes shop but the high street/town centers are dead in many places now so options are really limited often to just M&S, Next, H&M or Primark

I just find the level of snobbery towards fast fashion and anything that isn't deemed middle class enough funny. There are plenty of children's wear items including pyjamas etc sold in UK based high street stores and supermarkets that would also set alight if a naked flame were held to them.

Better report those to Trading Standards then.

See: The Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985 require children's nightwear to meet specific flammability standards, such as BS 5722, to ensure it is not easily ignited.

Don't buy any jewellery from Shein - bought a cheap chain for my holiday and it stained a brand new (expensive) top. Hasn't come out in the wash. Lesson learned!

Why would you assume that about anyone? I don't know anyone who has either of those things, so why would you just guess a stranger on the internet did??

What absolute bollocks.

Slave Labour using, credit card number harvesting, environmental disasters, vomiting out badly made shite.

This.

Upped their game 🤣. I think the OP might be on their payroll.

You very clearly don’t understand the issue, at all.

Clothes that do not meet the safety requirements in place in the UK will not only burn they will also melt and stick to the skin of the person wearing them, making any injuries exponentially worse.

This

10000 Percent this
there is a reason why France has recently passed legislation targeting the ultra-fast fashion industry, specifically impacting companies like Shein and Temu - Their standards are appalling, i read somewhere that Shein consumes more oil than car manufacturers. You get the argument then that people on a budget need cheaper clothing however studies have shown that the average Shein consumer spends 400 pounds a month on their site and their yearly income is 40k or above.

And you don't understand that it's none of your business where people choose to buy things from. If you are paying for it you get an opinion.

You probably typed this on an iPhone and drive a 4x4. Bit hypocritical.

You’re right - I did type it on an iPhone - unfortunately a phone is a necessity in the modern world. Plus whilst obviously not perfect at least Apple has an anti-slavery policy (and I know it will have passed safety standards - no formaldehyde for one), and comes up with its own product design rather than ripping off small designers. No Land Rover though - sold my car ages ago and manage by walking or public transport.

Fast fashion is very rarely a necessity, particularly not in the way many people use shein - especially in the era of online charity shops, Vinted, depop etc, it’s never been easier to find clothes in a more sustainable/cheaper way.

I don’t really get the iPhone argument though. Yes, it probably does make me a hypocrite, but it’s astonishingly difficult to buy entirely ethically across the spectrum (ikea used to use Romanian political prisoners for labour, the fashion industry in general accounts for up to 10% of the world’s carbon footprint, agave harvesting is causing certain types of bats to become endangered, avocados causing deforestation etc etc). That doesn’t mean just throwing in the towel and opting for the literal worst option.

Untrue. Any t-shirt will lose its shape if it is not washed correctly and not reshaped while damp. They don't give care instructions for shits and giggles you know!

I have t-shirts from Primark, Matalan and New Look that have kept their shape for more years than I'd like to day. I had a lovely Cos t-shirt last year (via CS). DH mistakenly washed it with his work gear on a cycle that was far too long and hot. It came out with warped seams and a saggy neck. Couldn't save it.

I know laundry is boring AF but a little more care and attention really does help your clothes last longer.

Crikey you dont have to get on a laundry high horse with me. Im very careful about how I shape my clothes and how they're washed

I dont own any t shirts, they dont suit me, but from knowledge of what I see and what Ive read and from discussions with people about this and that, I know that t shirts as an item are quite notorious.

BigFatLiar · 18/08/2025 15:12

I wear Shein sometimes. It's cheap (as everyone comments on). I'm not that fashionable and probably a lot older than their main target audience. Their stuff can be variable and you need to check the actual sizes as they can vary.

JustFeedMeCake · 18/08/2025 15:27

I have zero respect for anyone that uses either Shein or Temu because they have zero respect for the humans involved suffering when buying their utter crap.

SquirrelRed · 18/08/2025 15:38

Digdongdoo · 18/08/2025 14:11

I should bloody well hope a t-shirt from last summer is still fine! What sort of low standard is that?

Well, considering there are an awful lot of people who will claim cheap clothes fall apart just by looking at them, I actually think it is quite good! There are clothes from a lot of places that wouldn't withstand the amount or wear/washing that the every day t-shirts I have do.

MaloryJones · 18/08/2025 15:44

Same old same old

OP do what you like, but wouldn't post your buys on here with the bleeding hearts around

@MaloryJones
What's with the lol? Is it amusing to you that ultra cheap clothes come at the expense of slave labour? Or is it that you couldn't give a flying fuck about them?

Plenty of people really don't give a flying fuck. They just "need" their trendy clothes...

SHEIN is good but IKEA sucks? Seems an odd position.

SHEIN is good but IKEA sucks? Seems an odd position.

Was that a response to me? Not sure if anyone else has mentioned Ikea! I was responding to the criticism that you can’t be critical of shein/you’re a hypocrite if you also have an iPhone etc. I definitely haven’t said shein is good - the complete opposite in fact.

I was pointing out that basically everything we buy/every company has/has had negative aspects (be it environmentally, human rights etc). We are always going to have to buy food, clothing, furniture and other necessities (and arguably phones are a necessity in the modern world).

Just because you can’t be 100% perfect doesn’t mean that you should give up on trying to be good/pick the more ethical choice where possible. Yes I have a smartphone and I know that its production will have resulted in human and environmental suffering, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to compound that by buying from shein.

Good for you, getting poorly made shit churned out in factories that use child and slave labour, and poison the environment.

Edited

That’s not how having an opinion works, I’m afraid. You’re simply confirming my pre-existing opinion on the types of people who shop at Shein, with aplomb!

Have a lovely day.
