Their stuff looks lovely (online on skinny models anyway) - have heard a few good things recently as i had written them off a few years ago. Anyone use them and happy with the product, quality, returns etc

i hate online clothes shop but the high street/town centers are dead in many places now so options are really limited often to just M&S, Next, H&M or Primark

I've bought loads from Shein. Most of it has been fine. I'll continue to do so.

beachwalkx · 19/08/2025 00:24

The fabric always looked a bit crap to me
to be honest while I can find what I need on vinted, that works for me
picked up a brand new with tags M&S blazer on there for £10 and I know the sizing will be right too (which also puts me off ordering from shein)

People don’t care about where it comes from sadly. They don’t see the factories and treatment of workers and have no capacity to care about anything other than themselves. They are selfish and unpleasant.

The amount of people who use losing weight as an excuse. I congratulate the weight loss, it doesn’t justify using these companies.

I call these people out for what they are: selfish, nasty people. It’s not snobbery, it’s basic empathy. Calling people snobs for not wanting to profit from others misery is pathetic.

Well I love them. I buy a lot from there as I love fast fashion and I’ve never had any problems 🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately me too, I like their trousers (ducks to avoid all the flack)

Excellent post.

They’re defending their choices but they know deep down it’s unethical. Some are embarrassed, some have admitted they genuinely don’t give a fuck. What an awful attitude to have. What are they teaching their children? What an awful personality to have. No moral compass, no empathy and no shame.

You’ll continue funding slavery? That’s nice. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Fine for you. What about the modern day slavery used to make it? That's probably fine for you too though - don't even know why I'm asking.

Mermaidsarereal · 19/08/2025 10:08

I buy from Shein and Temu quite a lot... the majority of things I've had have been decent quality, now and again I've bought something that fits terribly but I'm a plus size girl so that's to be expected.

The cognitive dissonance required to come onto a parenting forum and openly state that you don't care about products produced with forced child labour is really quite something.

This. It’s not their children so who cares right? It’s not their family being forced to work in these factories.

AcheyBreakyHeart2 · 19/08/2025 11:26

This was never going to end well.

I don’t think it’s fair to label people as ‘selfish’ or ‘nasty’ for their shopping choices. 'Selfish' is a very loaded word. Everyone is selfish in their own ways. People try to make the best choices they can, but they also have to think about budget and practicality. That's often their priority and it's quite innocent really. The reality is, so many products we all use — clothes, phones, even food — come from supply chains with ethical issues. It’s not that people don’t care, it’s that they don’t always see those conditions first-hand, and unfortunately it’s a problem that’s much bigger than individual shoppers.

I think if you knowingly purchase products with extremely questionable practices, to the point of bragging about it as some people on this thread have, it's entirely reasonable to label them as nasty.

Why? They are selfish and nasty. That’s their choice to be that way . But if they’re going to admit that they don’t give a fuck about how and who the tat they buy harms, it’s well deserved.

Of course everyone is selfish to some extent. That is human nature. But this sort of consumerism, dressed up as "need" is damaging to the extreme. It's not only the source, or how it is made, it is the sheer quantity people buy simply because it is so cheap. They tell themselves they "need" new clothes, so they buy not one dress but 7 and throw 3 in the bin (or return them to end up incinerated). We're at a point now where even developing countries are so overwhelmed with old clothing that they don't want it. Charity shops don't make money from rag anymore.
People just don't think about it all and they fucking should.

CookingFatCat · 19/08/2025 13:00

Lots of Amazon stuff comes from China, they just hike the price.
I buy from Vinted mainly or charity shops.
On occasion I realise I’ve bought a Chinese item when I see the label.

I think the world has enough stuff and more efforts be made into recycling the vast amounts of clothing already circulating the planet.

Yes, amazon/ebay are full of the same stuff. Just as bad. Better to buy reputable brands if you shop on those platforms.
Reduction and reuse is the ideal. Most plastic textiles simply aren't suitable for recycling and end up in landfill or incinerated.

I don’t buy from Amazon either, which is much harder to do. And I really wish I still could. That one hurts.

But the world is going to hell in a hand basket and I’d rather not watch it while wearing SHEIN clothes.

FatherFrosty · 19/08/2025 14:36

Still full of poisonous banned substances that U.K. retailers can’t put in our clothes, cosmetics and homeware

still ripping off designs from individuals and small businesses.

Waitingfordoggo · 19/08/2025 15:19

I don’t buy clothes from Shein, Temu or Amazon- I never have for all the reasons already explained by PP’s. To me they represent everything that is wrong with the behaviour of wealthy Westerners (some of you will now tell me you aren’t wealthy and that’s why you buy from Shein, but nonetheless you are wealthier and more privileged than billions of people around the world- including those people making your plastic clothes).

Nothing to do with snobbery- I’m not on a high income and can’t afford high end gear. I just don’t buy clothes very often. Two or three items a year maybe? They come from charity shops or retailers whose ethical and environmental practices seem sound. The latter can be expensive which is why I only buy a few times a year 😂 I wait for the sales and/or use discount codes.

People who buy from Shein et al are either naïve or just genuinely don’t care about the planet and other humans- depressingly, there are an awful lot of people in that category, even people who have children which is really sad because obviously the children will absorb the same values. My kids buy from charity shops and Vinted because they’ve had a good think about the issues involved in Fast Fashion. They’re beginning to develop an understanding of environmental and human rights issues, and the problems created by materialism and extreme capitalism. None of us want the rich to keep getting richer while simultaneously destroying the planet and the humans in it.

I know the huns will continue to play the Money Game and buy their cheap crap off these appalling companies headed by fat cat billionaires. More fool them I guess.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 19/08/2025 15:25

What sort of shameless tw*t admits to loving fast fashion? Do you not care about child labour or the planet your children will inherit? All for some cheap shit that won't last.

unique is something that is rare and very little people have it - thousands of that item has been produced making it the same as high street "sameness"
