To be sick of the royal propaganda the UK is fed?

I know most people don’t give a damn about the Windsors any more .

However , in a week when we learn about Philip’s affairs - notably with Sarah Ferguson’s mother ( all covered up of course like the rest of their debachery) we are now expected to swallow the line that William and Kate’s next mansion is ‘paid for by William and Kate themselves ‘

No . That’s not the complete truth .Every penny the Windsors have , they have taken from the people . We now know William and Charles make millions from public services like the NHS schools and charities . We only know about this as a result of dogged journalistic digging . And most of the mainstream media barely covered the scandal .

There are many threads here about how the UK is in steep decline and how people are suffering . Yet the royals are taking in half a billion a year and charging charities on top !

At least admit to us that all their money is stolen from us ?

Oh and if you haven’t heard the queen knew all about Andrew pocketing money via ‘pitch at the palace’

She was told repeatedly by officials . She did nothing
Can we have some facts please ?
The Windsors are a total facade - they are all like Andrew - he’s just the latest fall guy .

Yes it's not ' all the time' by any stretch of the imagination. It's barely a few hours a week. They have tons of privacy during their many months of holidays. They have a sweet deal and they know it. They are experts at putting out PR about how hard they have it/ how they are 'just like you'/ how frugal they are and how much they suffer for their duty!

I remember the hilarious PR story about how the late Q would ensure all lights at BP were turned off before she went to bed!
And POW with her recycled outfits, otherwise known as wearing an expensive item of clothing more than once

RigIt · 18/08/2025 22:44

I don’t understand why you didn’t know that Phillip had affairs, and why you care so much? It’s old news and he’s dead.

The Royal Family are full of a mix of humans, and are.fallible, individuals are going to do things wrong. They are also born into it (or married into it), it’s not like a job they apply for.. The only thing I expect of them is that they represent the country and do their duty. I think William and Kate do this really well.

i also think the loss of the Royal Family would be a huge loss to the country, both in terms of income, but also history, tradition and gravitas. The royals are used by us diplomatically and politically, they aren’t just window dressing. (Negotiations with Trump being a recent example). All in all I think they are an asset.

Sparklybutold · 18/08/2025 22:46

I find the RF obscene. The PR is nauseating. Everything from what K wears, her piano playing, photos etc is just cringeworthy - literally all bollocks but wrapped up in glittery paper. I hate how the media talk about W&K versus H&M - literally do the same thing, yet interpreted completely differently. I also lauged at the assertion W&K were using there own dosh to do up there mansion - there own dosh! Its money made from centuries of robbery and then making billions from it all. Yup - they are the ultimate work dodgers but posh.

And the ' tupperware' crap when she was revealed to have squirreled millions into tax havens. So much for their charitable work! No point William going on about ' ending homelessness' when there is not enough money for drug rehab, counselling, mental health services etc that would 'end homelessness'. The money comes from taxes that he and his family avoid paying whenever they can!

Dontcallmescarface · 19/08/2025 09:11

And don’t even get me started on our AWFUL national anthem!!

I agree it's fucking dire. A national Anthem is supposed to instil pride in ones country...as an Atheist and anti-royalist the UK National anthem means sod all to me and I have not sang it for well over 40 years and won't be anytime soon.

They can do all this, be very well renumerated and be held to account. Not have armies of PR covering up for them and using a compliant Parliamentary and legal system to cover up their greed and avarice. Without the deliberately overly complicated tax arrangements, swear allegiance to us instead of expecting everyone to swear allegiance to them and by getting rid of all the hangers on. The only person with an official role is the Monarch, and that role is of little consequence apart from the dress up. He, his idle son and their wives are more than enough.

Isn't it just it's so embarrassing at football matches and Olympics when athletes sing their own national anthem with pride and our athletes have to sing the dirge that is "God save the King/Queen" just awful

It's also the only national anthem that relates to one person and has nothing to do with the nation. It needs to be changed. I doubt Charles or William will request a change. They like the ' just like you' act as long v as it doesn't mean they get less deference.

Absolutely. The melody is as uplifting as a funeral march and it just sounds so miserable. We need something jaunty and more uplifting that reflects the positive history and culture, something to make us proud to be British, rather than just seeing ourselves as servants to somebody who gives no fucks about any of us.

Serpentstooth · 19/08/2025 10:07

I recently found out that Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance -Land of Hope & Glory - is played at every (?) College graduation ceremony in USA. Our, UK, popular choice for replacing our dirge. It surprised me, I'd have thought they'd have an American composition. Not the Star Spangled Banner though, that's on par with God Save etc. Wait till JD Vance finds out. How unpatriotic.

It really is a shame because there are some amazing songs that sound so uplifting and would make beautiful national anthems.

Jeruselum, I vow to thee my country, land of hope and glory... just off the top of my head, these would be so much better.

Yes but Americans don't tend to know there's lyrics to it. They generally just call it the graduation song.

Absolutely, and they would be far more rousing then our current anthem.

If you read the link I posted above you'll find the 11 'working' royals scratch up some six month's full time 'work' between them.

Some ten months each me-time doesn't look like that bad a deal.

I read it, Cathy, and TBH was surprised it's as much as 6 months

As with W&K there's always some excuse ... to start with it was "They're only young and have years of doing the heavy lifting ahead", then we had "Best to concentrate on their family while they're young" and now it's "They can't be expected to be full on given Catherine's illness"

The last two may be valid to a greater or lesser degree, but it's hard not to wonder if any significant workload will ever be adopted

CathyorClaire · 19/08/2025 11:27

Thanks, Puzzled

Quite shocking really although I'm surprised there haven't been any royal fans trotting along to tell us how hard the RF really work behind the scenes while keeping their graft a massive secret🙄

Agree, always an excuse for being workshy
i acknowledge POW was/ is ill, but most people do return to their work/ duties, and she does have a massive amount of help/access to therapies, etc
i sense the next reason for plenty of leisure time will be ‘ let them take it easy until they take on the big jobs of K and Q
i would love to spend just one day with access to all that luxury, space and options…..

Ukisgaslit · 20/08/2025 14:04

A few people have asked me why ‘I am bothered and /or shocked ‘ re Philip’s affairs

Sorry I am just grabbing a minute to respond and I can’t find the original posters.

  1. I am not in least shocked - I believe affairs with men and women is common among Windsor men and one aspect of the propaganda I’m referring to in my title is to present them all as faithful family men and an example to us all ( sickening hypocrisy)
  2. That Philip had an affair with Fergies mother WAS news to me .

I clearly remember posters mildly suggesting a few years ago that Philip may not live with Elizabeth and royalists seized on this in outrage . Yes I accept the small band of mumsnet royalists are a different breed but now it’s all ‘oh that’s old news’
Why ?
Because Elizabeth and Philip are gone and it’s the current lot who need the propaganda .

I don’t wish to focus on affairs etc as there is horrific pedophilia and sexual abuse also been hidden in my opinion
There is also the financial greed and exploitation by the Windsors which isn’t presented properly to the public .

W&K's non attendance at VJ commemorations is actually just disgraceful in my view, the more I think about it. And their brief, perfunctory 'lest we forget' tweet is insulting. There are a handful of veterans left, chances are that tweeting is not the most relatable way of communicating with them.

They attended the VE events earlier this year. Evidently the veterans who fought in Asia are less deserving of respect than those who fought in Europe.

Futurehappiness · 20/08/2025 21:28

Perhaps members of the armed services needn't attend W's coronation when it comes or take part in parades, they can just tweet their support instead.

When they all turnout in milliary uniforms with their eleventy billion medals on special occasions
It makes me laugh that' the only two members of the royal family who have actually seem active service are not allowed to wear their uniforms
But the rest of them swan around in them pathetic.

Like Ruritania. Embarassing. I felt embarassed by the Coronation. And the jubilee when it was clear the Queen was struggling. Embarassing.
