And for reference, going to Northumberland for two weeks when you live in Burnley isn't a staycation it's a holiday, caller to the radio earlier!

I'm going on my holibobs next week.

shellyleppard · 15/08/2025 19:44

I'm from the west country and I call them holibobs... perhaps it's a regional thing??

chachahide · 15/08/2025 19:45

Hoblibobs makes me cringe so much, but it is a good way to quickly know whether I should bother with a proper friendship with someone or not. Rule these people out immediately.

Valid8me · 15/08/2025 19:51

Me and hubster love going on holibobs with our famalam 🤣

TangibleLemon · 15/08/2025 19:52

GenieGenealogy · 15/08/2025 19:53

YANBU. Usually the same species of idiot who talks about "crimbo".

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 15/08/2025 19:54

I've never use the term 'Holibobs'. It's mildly annoying. I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist about it. I agree with you on 'Staycation' though!! A 'Staycation' is when you STAY at home!!

NuffSaidSam · 15/08/2025 19:55

I think holibobs is so awful that it's actually ok. It's gone full circle.

Staycation when you aren't staying in your own house is unacceptable though.

I've got a neighbour who calls Tesco 'Tessies' and that makes me be sick in my mouth.

Alltheoldpaintings · 15/08/2025 19:56

U ok hun? Maybe u need a holibobs. We’re going on holibobs for a staycation after Crimbo, it’s only a 5 hour drive away, so easy to stop off at Tessie’s on the way :)

netflixfan · 15/08/2025 19:56

I think it’s cute, makes me think the person is excited and looking forward to their holiday. Sorry hollibob.

People calling British holidays ‘Staycations’ is my absolute pet hate.

A staycation is when you stay at home (hence the ‘Stay’ bit) and have lots of day trips.

I blame the BBC. And the internet. And people in general.

Coconutter24 · 15/08/2025 19:58

You do know what staycation means right?

RepoTheGeriatricOpera · 15/08/2025 19:58

Me and my non existent hubster were going to have a stacation this year, but we booked a holibob over chrimbo instead. #lovemyfamalam

Lifestooshort71 · 15/08/2025 20:09

Furbabies on holibobs........aargh!

DiscoNights · 15/08/2025 20:12

Only four sleeps til my holibobs with hubby. I’m gradually clearing out the fridge so we don’t waste any food; we’ll be having a picky tea the evening before we jet off.

I do indeed and so does the poster above, @ElfAndSafetyBored. Most of the population, however, seemingly don't.

Hubby’s got to stay home with the fur babies. Hoping he’ll do picky bits for tea.

Is it because they pronounce it ‘holibobbles’ wherever you are based?

Clafoutie · 15/08/2025 20:21

M & S have fully embraced ‘ picky bits’

From their website

WHAT ARE PICKY BITS?
Whether you call it girl dinner, picky tea, party tea, or picky bits, we're talking about a delicious combination of easy-to-prepare ingredients you can put together easily. At M&S we're the only destination for flavour-packed picky bits you won't find anywhere else. Pop to the Foodhall to grab your faves, pile everything up onto a grazing board, or roll out the picnic rug and head to the park.

Mumrant123 · 15/08/2025 20:22

I’m on my holibobs now!!!! lol

They’ve even managed to include ‘ girl dinner’ ‘pop to grab your faves’ and ‘head to the park’

LlynTegid · 15/08/2025 20:23

I agree with you OP. I will forgive misuse of the word staycation, but not that.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 15/08/2025 20:41

I agree with all of these.

I’m adding -
