AIBU to think since covid it's got a little out of control 😅 went to my local outlet centre today (MacArthur Glen) and they're now allowing all dogs into shops and restaurants. Totally get dog friendly places, you can choose not to go to them if you don't like them but feels a little wrong they're now just in shops. What if you have a fear or allergy? Or is it just me?

Can’t you just stop going into places that allow dogs? If enough of ‘you lot’ do that, and these places start losing money, dogs will soon enough stop being allowed.

At the moment the ‘pup pound’ (a phrase coined by @DiordreBarlow , I believe) is just more important to business owners than either you or @BerryTwister will probably ever be.

I’m team dog, I was asking the anti dog lot to put their money where their mouths are.

Myfluffyblanket · 14/08/2025 23:05

@RaventheBrave...what a beautiful dog you have.
Here is my little miss.

YANBU OP.
And twice as many people agree with you as disagree with you, according to the poll. But this is MN where people love their animals more than their kids, so it was only to be expected that the thread would be filled with “ooh look at my gorgeous hound, how can you not want him in every room you ever go in”. It’s sadly predictable.

Thanks for posting this, proves I'm not going mad 😅 yeah didn't realise it would set off so many people, loved up my Thursday night 🤣 think I underestimated how crazy people are be over a dog and I just don't get it 😅🤣

@Zov thank you. And you’re a fast learner, so gold star for you too. But I’ll still push your dog out of the way if it inconveniences me in a place designed for humans.

I very much doubt that you would push one of mine out of the way. Or walk into them 😁

Apologies @Onleemoi ..it’s getting late (for me!), I got that wrong. ( I get very frustrated by people who think they have the right to dictate to businesses who (or what) shouldn’t be allowed in).

londongirl12 · 14/08/2025 23:21

If it’s the one in Ashford, there’s dogs everywhere!!! I love dogs, but not in shops and food places. Feel very sorry for people with allergies and phobias, you can’t get away from them.

MsPug · 14/08/2025 23:23

Yes I do love my dog more than my
kid (almost)

I took a Labrador into a shop today and didn't even ask. I would usually not do something like that. But he's at risk of being stolen.

I thought it would be shit for people who were afraid of dogs to be fair. If he started slobbering everywhere I'd just leave.

The only area I have a problem with this is if someone has a fear of dogs, if someone has been attacked by a dog before and hates them, I get it. I'd say it's pretty easy to just avoid the dog and if they're on a lead it's all good. If the dogs are out of control or being annoying then if expect to see the staff telling them to sort it out asap or leave.

All good ❤️ I’m with you, trying to reason with the unreasonable is tedious!

Theunamedcat · 14/08/2025 23:25

In this heat they shouldn't be but I spent yesterday morning in the park with people who didn't get the memo their dogs were soaked we don't have a pond pool or water source there poor things were struggling and the owners did not care

Yes there has been an upsurge in dogs since the pandemic but what gets on my nerves is actually bad dog owners

Yanbu, in 10 years, most will be dead. I adore my dog but I won't get another one. She'll be here for another 12 years.
I never thought that I'd be a dog owner. I bought her from a homeless man, saved her from death, she's special.
I never bring my dog somewhere people are eating. I wouldn't like it myself.
Loving the doggy pictures. 💖🦴

Sonolanona · 14/08/2025 23:44

Where do you live that dogs are allowed in so many shops? I'm in Oxfordshire, and while some pubs do, most places don't .
I don't take my dog shopping (or to pubs for that matter) as she's a dog. She'd never bother anyone as she is a 'family only' dog but it would be no fun for her and less fun for me.
She is gorgeous tho...(and looks good in my hat!)

KenAdams · 14/08/2025 23:48

Ah amazing I've got to go into one in my way to somewhere else but I'll have my dog with me. Didn't think she'd be allowed in anywhere so thanks for letting me know, I'll just take her around with me :)

It’s a real cognitive dissonance, isn’t it? I’m a dog lover and owner and I have absolutely no problem at all finding places that don’t allow dogs when I’m meeting up with people that aren’t so keen. Because it’s still most places!

Edited to add this was in response to @Zov

Edited

I think it’s just highly regional.

I’m indifferent to dogs, but trying and failing to think of anywhere in Brighton (my nearest city) where I could meet for a coffee with someone who didn’t like dogs, and I know there’s nowhere in my local town. The odd garden centre has a dog-free section but if you don’t drive that’s not helpful (and is often ignored anyway)

IceMaidenIceBear · 14/08/2025 23:50

I'm another that has never taken the dogs into shops or cafes. I don't think a shopping mall is a good environment for them. I try to see it more from a dog's perspective than a human one, and I think most dogs prefer fields, moors, woodland to shopping centres with slippery floors, noise and smells.

My 2 would rather go for walks up the hills or to the dog park.

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 14/08/2025 23:56

I’m always surprised to see how many people seem to take their dogs shopping in mid-afternoon in hot weather. It doesn’t look comfortable for the dogs.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/08/2025 00:30

Such a feel good thread. Pet's are really special.

Well they were crazy, who is going to go on holiday and stay inside with the cat all week.

Well their point was that I couldn’t take my cat because of this.

Can we have a thread tomorrow about the inconvenience of humans being everywhere? Or pixies? Or oxygen? We've had one today about tanned people being everywhere.....now dogs. Have we had the tourist one you get each summer yet?

Edited

I'm off to look for the tanned people one ...

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 15/08/2025 01:40

Another here who has never taken her pup into a shop or café, apart from once into a bakery to buy some water and a sausage roll for the dog when we walked miles out of our way by mistake. There's nowhere they'd rather be than up hill or down dale or being silly in a river.

Spidey66 · 15/08/2025 02:32

My lovely girl.

am bored with dog hating threads.
