Dogs suddenly everywhere

AIBU to think since covid it's got a little out of control 😅 went to my local outlet centre today (MacArthur Glen) and they're now allowing all dogs into shops and restaurants. Totally get dog friendly places, you can choose not to go to them if you don't like them but feels a little wrong they're now just in shops. What if you have a fear or allergy? Or is it just me?

Oh god - again with this shit!

Because it’s an issue that affects a lot of people.

Zov · 14/08/2025 22:27

Tutorpuzzle · 14/08/2025 22:23

Wouldn’t it be less stressful for you to go into places that don’t allow dogs? (And there are vast amounts of these, see the post upthread from the person who has a service dog.)

I mean, going out of your way to be tripped up by a dog does sound just a little unhinged…

This. ^ 😆It's almost like some people are tripping over themselves to get annoyed by dogs. And then tripping over themselves to post on Mumsnet about how much dogs annoy them! 😬

It doesn't though.

I don’t even a dog lol but I’m inspired to join in with the gorg pics! So I’m posting one of the most loveliest and unusual dogs I saw at a historical fair about two years ago. I think the owner said was a lurcher and border collie cross!

I think this one might also be merle-coated like mine posted on the previous page, though mine's a fawn merle. This one's a blue. It's quite often seen in collies.

We also happen to have a more traditional looking collie-lurcher cross (the black and white one). He is wonderful, and the uncle of my merle. His sister (my merle's mum) is a blue merle - funny how it all works!

Finally, there's our amazing red kelpie - probably the most intelligent breed of dog I've ever known. 😍 Love all my boys.

@Tutorpuzzle the point OP was making was that dogs are allowed in so many more places these days. I don’t seek them out. But if I’m in a cafe or a clothes shop, I’m not going to interrupt my shopping to make way for a dog, who really doesn’t belong there. Any more than I would expect the dogs to make way for me on a dog friendly beach or park.

It doesn't though.

@Zov nearly 3 quarters of people have said OP is not being unreasonable, which suggests quite a number of people are fed up with dogs everywhere.

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 14/08/2025 22:33

I am in genuine awe of all the beauties on this thread- so many truly exquisite doggies, as well as bunnies, and that one cat! I believe I have ❤️ ed them all but deep apologies if I accidentally neglected one!

My scruffbag mid-flight.

What are you planning on doing about it? I promise I’ll sign every petition you lot come up with.

BerryTwister · 14/08/2025 22:37

I find this whole thread strange. Imagine if OP posted that she was sick of being chatted up by pushy men. Would people spam her thread with photos of their “gorgeous” boyfriends and husbands?

I was just making the point that it does affect a lot of people, despite @Zov saying it doesn’t.

Of course not, that would be stupid. If us dog owners dog pics offend you report us.

Yawn.

There’s one of these every week now, getting tedious.

Pushy men chatting up women who are trying to just go about their day, are WAY more annoying than any dog!

Can’t you just stop going into places that allow dogs? If enough of ‘you lot’ do that, and these places start losing money, dogs will soon enough stop being allowed.

At the moment the ‘pup pound’ (a phrase coined by @DiordreBarlow , I believe) is just more important to business owners than either you or @BerryTwister will probably ever be.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 14/08/2025 22:44

Not sure why this turned into a photo thread, but if that’s what we’re doing, here’s a sign I saw at Beamish

But what on earth will the dog haters find to complain about THEN?! 😱

What places say you can’t leave dogs in cottages and caravans? I holiday all round the UK with dog and never come across this.. we wouldn’t be able to do much with him in tow constantly. And we leave dogs at home on days out.

Interestingly it used to be both haven and park dean, but both look like they've changed it! There's lots of discussions still visible about not being able to leave them so not sure when that changed

Private static caravan sites still have it near us though.

Certainly all the caravan club sites have rules about tourers not having dogs alone because I think it's part of the caravan club itself

Obviously you aren't allowed them left in tents because of the heat

Cottages its case by case but there's a few larger companies that have a blanket no, and we've found air bnb and smaller ones often do.

Tutorpuzzle · 14/08/2025 22:54

It’s a real cognitive dissonance, isn’t it? I’m a dog lover and owner and I have absolutely no problem at all finding places that don’t allow dogs when I’m meeting up with people that aren’t so keen. Because it’s still most places!

Edited to add this was in response to @Zov
