Dogs suddenly everywhere

AIBU to think since covid it's got a little out of control 😅 went to my local outlet centre today (MacArthur Glen) and they're now allowing all dogs into shops and restaurants. Totally get dog friendly places, you can choose not to go to them if you don't like them but feels a little wrong they're now just in shops. What if you have a fear or allergy? Or is it just me?

I don’t even a dog lol but I’m inspired to join in with the gorg pics! So I’m posting one of the most loveliest and unusual dogs I saw at a historical fair about two years ago. I think the owner said was a lurcher and border collie cross!

What places say you can’t leave dogs in cottages and caravans? I holiday all round the UK with dog and never come across this.. we wouldn’t be able to do much with him in tow constantly. And we leave dogs at home on days out.

When I enquired about taking my cat with me to a holiday let, they said the rule was you must be with your pet at all times.

It’s so muscular!

OP this thread proves your point. Despite having a whole forum of their own to waffle on about their dogs, the dog people have to spam AIBU with pictures of their pets. It’s self indulgent and attention seeking, and I think it’s all rather sad. I’m not bothered by it on a forum, other than finding it very dull, but in real life if dogs are in shops and cafes, I expect the owners to move them out of my way or I’ll walk into them.

labradorlover25 · 14/08/2025 22:16

Despite me loving dogs (clearly) I was saying the same today. We went on a train trip and dog was on the train. It was a 1.5 hour trip to look at the scenery. The dog was panting away at the window, blocking the view. It can’t have been having fun either. I’ve noticed it more so since my little one is scared of dogs, they’re literally everywhere!

Bumblefuzz · 14/08/2025 22:16

What about cats, because my dog likes to take his cat with him too Grin

Now they are cute!

LifeOfAShowGirl · 14/08/2025 22:18

I was out for a walk yesterday and a massive dog came up to me and wouldn’t leave me alone. It was jumping up and nipping at my arms (thankfully I had a jacket on!), and despite me constantly moving away, it wouldn’t go. The owners were nowhere to be seen.

@Zov thank you. I thought it might help the poster who thinks a dog is a baby. Just performing a public service to help educate.

Well they were crazy, who is going to go on holiday and stay inside with the cat all week.

Honestly, it was stunning and yes v athletic! V majestic/regal looking and it was so calm and well behaved. Totally fell in love and was just so jealous of the lady who owned him! Also I think I wrongly said lurcher - I think it was a greyhound and collie cross which explains the physique and colour!

@Zov thank you. And you’re a fast learner, so gold star for you too. But I’ll still push your dog out of the way if it inconveniences me in a place designed for humans.

GrumpyOldCrone · 14/08/2025 22:23

I would be much happier with being surrounded by dogs if their owners were more responsible. It doesn’t matter how cute these dogs are: they need to be properly trained. A significant proportion of the dogs we encounter in public places are not well behaved.

Wouldn’t it be less stressful for you to go into places that don’t allow dogs? (And there are vast amounts of these, see the post upthread from the person who has a service dog.)

I mean, going out of your way to be tripped up by a dog does sound just a little unhinged…

BarnOwlFlying · 14/08/2025 22:24

The reason there are multiple threads on problems with dogs is because…
there are LOTS of problems with dogs.

They are popular threads because so many people have had bad experiences with dogs.

In this time of climate emergency (with the notable exception of assistance and working dogs) no one should be getting dogs - they have a high carbon footprint. Dogs are a luxury the planet cannot afford.

I live in an area with ecologically important chalk streams. Sadly the streams have been badly affected by flea treatments on dogs. I feel upset when I see dog owners let their dogs go in the streams.
