That today's forecast for the South and South East of England was and is very wrong

I'm in central London and it is raining. On the BBC weather app it is telling me that in central London it is clear sunshine now and for the rest of the day. When I woke up this morning the BBC weather app told me it would be sunshine and clouds this morning and then turn into a clear sunny scorcher. Well, it fully clouded over at about 11am and has only got darker and more cloudy since then and there's been thunder & lightening and rain on and off for at least an hour now!!!!

Why? How? Even the nowcast is wrong!!!

I'm in Brighton. The forecast was correct cloudy with a high chance of rain.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/08/2025 16:34

It’s supposed to be sunny in West Sussex. It isn’t.

RitaAndFrank · 13/08/2025 16:35

SW here. Forecast sun. It’s cloudy.

nomas · 13/08/2025 16:35

Yes it has changed a bit. The forecast was cloudy but 0% chance of all day, but it suddenly to changed to forecasting rain at 4pm so I brought all the washing in. However, it was cloudy so I would not have put washing out if I wasn’t WFH.

It’s a challenge to forecast the UK weather at the best of times. There may be super computers to assist what the forecaster predict but given we are sandwiched between the land mass of Europe and the mighty Atlantic Ocean, there’s gonna be times the forecast is not quite right where you are.
Also, take into account the “localised nature of weather.” Who is to say that a few miles away the forecast is as predicted?
The South East is a huge area. I bet the forecast is as predicted for many and with regret, at time of posting, not for you.
For some folks a cloudier day might offer some respite.

Boomer55 · 13/08/2025 16:37

I'm on the London/Kent borders, and it's hot/humid, but cloudy and no sign of rain. 🤷‍♀️

viques · 13/08/2025 16:39

Thank goodness for the rain! There were several grassfires in East London this week as it is / was tinder dry. Saw fire crews out this morning still damping down the area that burned yesterday as there were bits that were still smouldering.

❤❤👏fire crews.

We had a good crack of thunder and a drenching which should help a lot.

404PageNotFound · 13/08/2025 16:40

Pissed down with thunder about an hour ago. I'm at work. My laundry is out. Same happened Sunday night when I had the laundry out. It's my fault, sorry.

x2boys · 13/08/2025 16:44

It's cracking the flags in Bolton!

MargoLivebetter · 13/08/2025 16:44

Lol @404PageNotFound ! Fortunately DD is WFH (not in central London I should add but 40 miles away) and she was able to do the "laundry in" dash and close the upstairs velux for me. You never know, your laundry may be dry again by the time you get home.

Agree. Just had to put a hoodie on and shut the windows. Looks like it is going to piss down. Forecast showing amazing sun and heat

LBOCS2 · 13/08/2025 16:46

I came through torrential rain at Clapham
Junction about 45 mins ago, but have seen no sign of it at home yet which is disappointing as we could really do with some. Just grey and incredibly muggy here still 😩

mamagogo1 · 13/08/2025 16:47

We have just had the sun break through, 5 hours after the forecast had predicted. Off camping tomorrow so despite all sun forecast I have the rain jackets packed!

PhilippaGeorgiou · 13/08/2025 16:49

We had the opposite. Yestreday was supposed to be very hot and sunny - got cloud and rain. Today is cracking the flags. Yorkshire

HotTiredDog · 13/08/2025 16:55

V v hot yesterday & today up in the North West, as forecast. I really wish it wasn’t.

Boredlass · 13/08/2025 16:56

It’s the BBC. They are always laughably wrong

Scoutingforducks · 13/08/2025 16:57

Its scorching here in Scotland

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2025 16:58

Predicted cloudy here and sunny from 2pm - South Hampshire.

Was cloudy and then at 2pm we had rain thunder and lightening 🤦🏼‍♀️

Very glad ds and I didn’t go canoeing at 2pm as originally planned!

GingerBeverage · 13/08/2025 16:58

BBC Weather app is saying it's full sun right now in London.

Completely wrong, it's full cloud.

What's a better app?

JustMyView13 · 13/08/2025 17:00

YES! Thank you!
I just let out the most pathetic noise on a work call as the unexpected and not in the forecast clap of thunder went off over my house.

dogcatkitten · 13/08/2025 17:00

They were forecasting showers, but unlikely to reach the SE, we also just had a shower but I wasn't surprised it looked pretty threatening, unfortunately not enough to water the garden! Hoping for more this evening.

ChompandaGrazia · 13/08/2025 17:01

Apparently here in Suffolk it’s raining right now. I’m in my garden disagreeing with that.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 13/08/2025 17:01

Was like this yesterday morning in Manchester, was forecast sunshine all day and it rained quite a bit for at least an hour. I didn’t have a coat or umbrella ☂️

Walkthelakes · 13/08/2025 17:02

Hottest day of the year I think here In North Yorkshire. Didn’t check the forecast and it took me by surprise

Floranan · 13/08/2025 17:03

im in the fens and it’s hot , 31 in the garden at the moment, full blazing sun. It lightly showered in the night for about 30 minutes but that was it.

it’s worrying, the ground is so dry looking out over what should be fields of wheat and it’s dry, I live near a huge orchard and the apples are hard little bullets the trees looking so sad.
