That today's forecast for the South and South East of England was and is very wrong

I'm in central London and it is raining. On the BBC weather app it is telling me that in central London it is clear sunshine now and for the rest of the day. When I woke up this morning the BBC weather app told me it would be sunshine and clouds this morning and then turn into a clear sunny scorcher. Well, it fully clouded over at about 11am and has only got darker and more cloudy since then and there's been thunder & lightening and rain on and off for at least an hour now!!!!

Why? How? Even the nowcast is wrong!!!

What does the met forecast say? I don't trust the bbc one.

Blingismything · 13/08/2025 17:06

We have Saharan dust on our cars and the car radio kept getting French radio interference today.

Temporalagency · 13/08/2025 17:09

Yes, this has caused great hilarity in our house! The pavements are sadly dry again already though despite the torrential rain an hour ago!'

lazyarse123 · 13/08/2025 17:10

North yorkshire and it's 33 according to my thermostat thingy. I really hope it rains, we have two water butt's and they're both empty and I'm knackered from watering our very small garden. The heat is making me feel a bit unwell.
I have two sundresses that I wear at home, no bra and I wear one a day, wash it and swap the next day. If I have to go out and put a bra on I think I will just die.

SerendipityJane · 13/08/2025 17:11

Are you sure ? This is now "AI" generated forecasting, so it may be that you are wrong ?

Drivingthevengabus · 13/08/2025 17:14

We had a full on thunder storm earlier and torrential rain - I'm in SE just outside London.

Crunchymum · 13/08/2025 17:15

It's not cold by any stretch of the imagination (in fact it's horribly humid) but BBC got the forecast very wrong today. Everytime I've checked it's showing sunshine and there's been very little sun here at all today.

BBC also totally missed the rain and thunderstorm we had for about an hour.

I don't trust BBC weather 100% as I've had incorrect forecasts on more than one occasion (always involving saying no rain when it's been pissing down oddly enough) so I cross reference with Accuweather.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 13/08/2025 17:16

It has cooled down and clouded over here in Cambridgeshire and I am relieved. Maybe a rainy night will be nice! Don't mind a bit of thunder and lightning.

MargoLivebetter · 13/08/2025 17:16

Lol @SerendipityJane are you trying to make me doubt my own mind!

Am I sure that the BBC nowcast was still showing bright sunshine for central London when it was raining? Am I sure it was raining? Am I sure the forecast this morning for both where I live 40 miles westish of central London and in Central London was for bright sunshine today?

Which bit do you think I may not be sure about? I'm fairly sure I'm sure about all of it, but as you asked, I'm now beginning to wonder 🤔

BBC rain forecast is rarely correct. Time to ditch this "10% chance of rain" crap for a start. I see they are back in bed with the met office, perhaps that will help.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/08/2025 17:17

If it’s any consolation I am in France in my first abroad holiday in ten years and today it is 29 degrees at home and here it has been cold, grey and raining! And the forecast says sunny and 25*! I totally feel your pain @MargoLivebetter, and if I don’t get my promised weather tomorrow I will not be happy!

BeardofHagrid · 13/08/2025 17:17

If they can’t get something as simple as the weather forecast right, just think what else they get wrong.

Nannyfannybanny · 13/08/2025 17:17

SE UK here, nearest to France.bbc last night, said murky start then hot. I have a local app on my phone it said cloudy all day,55% chance of showers, that's been correct.

Violinist64 · 13/08/2025 17:19

Very warm here in the East Midlands.

muddyford · 13/08/2025 17:19

It was thick cloud and speckling with fine rain here in the southwest. Sun only came out midafternoon.

Dramatic · 13/08/2025 17:19

It's a scorcher in the NE, hotter than what was predicted.

ExitPursuedByABare · 13/08/2025 17:19

Scorchio in Saddleworth

KatieKat88 · 13/08/2025 17:20

Very hot in the West Midlands!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 13/08/2025 17:24

I thought the splashes on the windows @ 16.00 were rain, but they can't have been because the BBC weather app at 16.05 said it was bright & sunny where I live.

The BBC used to follow the Met Office lead, and ensure that every single forecast was skewed towards the extreme of what it was expected to be using the latest climate change models. This was why they had to abandon the longer range forecasts (if anyone remembers). Because they kept on not living up to the theory.

To be fair the last couple of years they've not been so bad. But I still check the sky before I hang washing out ....

urbanbuddha · 13/08/2025 17:24

The weather forecast has been getting less and less accurate for a while now. I’m also in central London and it’s been overcast all day. Was forecast 28* degree sunny afternoon by the Met Office.

Wynter25 · 13/08/2025 17:25

Red hot in the North East

SerendipityJane · 13/08/2025 17:25

Which you'd expect if the chaos in the system is increasing

garlictwist · 13/08/2025 17:27

Yorkshre here and it did that to me on Monday. I woke up expecting a glorious hot day and instead it was very gloomy. Today has been lovely but I was surprised as I no longer trust the forecast. I have all the apps. Met Office is always too optimisitic, I think so take it with a pinch of salt.

Liliwen · 13/08/2025 17:27

Hot and sunny as forecast in north Wales. It did rain for a bit yesterday and was so humid- it really needed a good storm. Trying to sleep at night is impossible- it’s way too hot.
