To not like dogs

Awkward subject, but I recently was in a social group and everyone except me was bonding over their love of dogs and I just knew I had to keep quiet but of how socially unacceptable it is to dislike them.

I’m not scared of them, I haven’t had any majorly horrible experiences to make me hate dogs. I just simply don’t like them. I would never find a dog cute, I think they make your home smelly and dirty, having to walk them and look after them just seems like a form of personal torture I don’t know why anyone would want that. But I could NEVER say that thought out loud I would be crucified!

Also, another thing I’ve noticed is, it’s a certain demographic of people who seem to be obsessed with their dogs, people without kids, or older people whose kids have moved out. I may be wrong but it’s like this need to mother something/someone.

But anyway, I know dog lovers will come for me that’s fine I just genuinely want to know, why is it such a problem for dog lovers when someone else doesn’t like them?

I have kids, and when someone says they don’t want kids or don’t like them I don’t then judge them and start scrutinising them, I sort of agree lol! (Obviously love my own)

I see you went for the ‘premium licence’ picnic experience. Did the imaginary dogs charge before or after you downloaded the iStock photo? 😂

I downloaded the photo from a website about Swiss Feuerstellen, to demonstrate the fact that fires in the open are perfectly normal here, after the pearl clutching about fires in the open.

Onleemoi · 23/08/2025 20:21

Perfectly legal even if some people don’t like them.

I don’t know why people are given you a hard time sbout the fire. In my own part of not so sunny Scotland there are plenty of public places that are for making campfires. BBQ areas built into the wall down by lochside. Stone circles like yours in designated controlled camping areas. I think it’s really sensible to provide people safe spaces to use. Even the picnic tables have little shelves for disposable bbqs. I love a campfire tea hotdogs and marshmallows and it keeps the midgies away.

I think they’ll seize on anything to distract from people being honest about how annoying dogs are. I have never had a single positive experience with dogs.

Luckily municipal campfires tend to stay in one place and don’t chase after you. There are 570 official municipal campfires here in Switzerland.

Have you got stock pictures of all of them?

I find that hard to believe. I bet the vast majority of dogs that passed you, you didn't even register.
It is like people not noticing the good cyclists. They only see the bad.

Can't you thick of an original topic?
Noone cares what you think. YAWN.

I do have a very lovely Labrador who is a fabulous dog and doesn’t harass strangers for hotdogs. Just gazes at them adoringly and wags her tail hopefully, you can almost see her thinking please, please say hello so I can lick you.

I love dogs and campfires, in no way are the two mutually exclusive.

I’ve never had a single positive experience of an open fire in a public place.

But, but marshmallows burnt to a coal like consistency on the outside and approximately the same temperature as the sun on the inside. Possibly it’s a part of rural living, and in Scotland where we end to have a bit more space, but I feel like my children’s childhood is punctuated by sitting by a campfire toasting something on a stick. Forest school, guides, scouts, Halloween parties, birthday parties ( we went to nice one recently where a bloke taught whittling and which trees you can eat leaves from and they made calzones over the fire), lunches by the loch. My 10 yo twins are off to guide camp next week and I imagine half the time will be spent gathered round the camp fire cooking, eating, toasting marshmallows and singing random guide songs.

Only 2% of dog attacks result in prosecution

A disgusting statistic. All dog attacks should result in prosecution.

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 24/08/2025 10:01

The vast majority of victims are other dogs. It's nice you care, doggy ally 🐾.

deerz · 28/08/2025 17:59

Dogs are brood parasites. They make people put them before humans, even the humans their owners are related to. I saw a woman walking on a narrow path with her child and her dog in each hand. Guess which one was walked in the road? Yep you guessed it, of course she kept her 'precious furbaby' on the path!
I applaud people who put human safety first, I mean it is the right thing to do surely? There are way too many poor temperaments mixed in to dogs these days, and there are way too many dogs in general.

That’s laughable, entitled, the posters who hate, there’re not posting about dislike, let’s be clear, it’s hate, are coming across are unbelievably entitled, as they always do on these threads.
For for work, l travel, all over the uk, l eat out a lot, go to public houses, cafes, l’ve never seen a stressed out dog, dogs barking inside, so forgive me if l don’t believe you, will go on my own wide experience, not from someone who has no patience and clearly hates dogs.Dogs at Asda’s 😂 yea right, of course you have, when have supermarkets allowed dogs inside, unless it’s a guide dog? How often does this happen a guide dog in a supermarket? However this is in line with uk law, guide dogs are allowed anywhere.
Your post is again, another patronising, angry comment, from yet another person who hates dogs, we know they’re dogs, we also know, dogs, are allowed to walk, on a lead in any street, are welcome in most public houses, cafes, when people take their dogs there, they are not doing anything wrong, it’s perfectly legal. You can get as angry as want, make things up to fit your own narrative, it’s not going to change anything.
I’ve just read apparently you have a dog, of course you have🙄 🐾

Edited

I do have a dog actually, he's an elderly dog. I love him to bits and love dogs whatever your opinion might be (I couldn't give a toss about that by the way).

But he's a DOG and certain places aren't suitable for him and OTHER dogs to be. What part of that don't you get?!!!??
Oh yeah of course - you're one of the entitled ones that thinks we should all have to put up with your smelly animal under the table when we go out for a pub meal. 🙄🙄🙄

If you’re going to make comments that simply aren’t true, that you’ve seen dog’s in supermarkets and dog’s causing disturbances in cafes, public houses and put your ridiculous views on MN, then people are also going to give some actual, factual, information, not made up, opinions, like yours.
I would feel sorry for your dog, but l don’t believe you actually have one, again another one of your lies!
You’ve demonstrated so much contempt, referring to dog’s as smelly and goodness what else you’ve said on here.If you’re going to give your view on here, at last keep it factual, not just ones to fit your own narrative 🥱

Don't mind @Justchilling07 they probably don't have any children of their own, just a "fur baby" 🤮 not a normal dog like the rest of us.

Thats why they get a bit argumentative when we insist on basic hygiene and considering people who might have pet allergies. They'll probably accuse you of not even owning a dog too. 🤣🤣

Justchilling07 · 08/09/2025 22:49

@Lurleenlumpkin79 l’m not being ‘argumentative’
l’m referring to your comments🙄 that supposedly you’ve seen dogs in supermarkets!! And dogs causing disturbances in cafes and public houses, gosh haven’t you been unfortunate 😬
Sorry to disappoint you, l don’t have a fur baby, also didn’t realise it was a prerequisite, only women with children could have an opinion.Aww, l guess it’s just as well, l have a child of my own.
I reiterate, you sound, very unpleasant, from what you’ve said, you’ve only demonstrated contempt, to all dogs, so forgive me if😂l don’t believe you actually have one.
