To not like dogs

Awkward subject, but I recently was in a social group and everyone except me was bonding over their love of dogs and I just knew I had to keep quiet but of how socially unacceptable it is to dislike them.

I’m not scared of them, I haven’t had any majorly horrible experiences to make me hate dogs. I just simply don’t like them. I would never find a dog cute, I think they make your home smelly and dirty, having to walk them and look after them just seems like a form of personal torture I don’t know why anyone would want that. But I could NEVER say that thought out loud I would be crucified!

Also, another thing I’ve noticed is, it’s a certain demographic of people who seem to be obsessed with their dogs, people without kids, or older people whose kids have moved out. I may be wrong but it’s like this need to mother something/someone.

But anyway, I know dog lovers will come for me that’s fine I just genuinely want to know, why is it such a problem for dog lovers when someone else doesn’t like them?

I have kids, and when someone says they don’t want kids or don’t like them I don’t then judge them and start scrutinising them, I sort of agree lol! (Obviously love my own)

No, not at all. No one has to like animals, as long as they’re not cruel to them. I’m a cat lover, with 3 cats, and I actually like dogs (though I wouldn’t have one as I see them as too much of a tie).

But I don’t understand the antagonism towards people who do like dogs and choose to own them; as long as they have their dogs under control and they don’t jump up at me I don’t give them a second thought.

It’s daft how not liking dogs specifically is equated to not liking animals.

My ex was a vegan as he believes farming practices is cruel to animals , and much like me he loves wild animals, but has no time for dogs. You try telling him he’s less of an animal lover than you while you chomp on meat lol

If someone didn’t like elephants or tigers or sparrows or snakes no one would make such a big deal out of it and claim There’s something wrong with them. Absolute nonsense.

I wouldn’t be cruel to a dog and would report anyone who was abusing their dog - but I just don’t like them around me at all.

I don’t dislike them just indifferent I don’t want them everywhere I go and the barking gets on my nerves.

So many of my friends love their dogs and we are pretty like minded about everything else so wonder what’s wrong with me!

We were having a picnic today with a fire, cooking on the fire. Two different dogs came hurtling over scaring the shit out of my kids. I stood up and walked directly at the dogs and chased them off. So annoying.

That happened.

Where can you go nowadays that is 100% guaranteed to be dog-free? It seems like nowhere is safe.

I despise people who light fires in public.

There are organised fireplaces. They even supply the wood !
