To not like dogs

Awkward subject, but I recently was in a social group and everyone except me was bonding over their love of dogs and I just knew I had to keep quiet but of how socially unacceptable it is to dislike them.

I’m not scared of them, I haven’t had any majorly horrible experiences to make me hate dogs. I just simply don’t like them. I would never find a dog cute, I think they make your home smelly and dirty, having to walk them and look after them just seems like a form of personal torture I don’t know why anyone would want that. But I could NEVER say that thought out loud I would be crucified!

Also, another thing I’ve noticed is, it’s a certain demographic of people who seem to be obsessed with their dogs, people without kids, or older people whose kids have moved out. I may be wrong but it’s like this need to mother something/someone.

But anyway, I know dog lovers will come for me that’s fine I just genuinely want to know, why is it such a problem for dog lovers when someone else doesn’t like them?

I have kids, and when someone says they don’t want kids or don’t like them I don’t then judge them and start scrutinising them, I sort of agree lol! (Obviously love my own)

🥱 You sound delightful. It really doesn’t have any affect on your life, get a grip, calm down.

I agree. And considering us locking horns on another thread, it’s made me smile 😊

All us humans have more in common than we have differences.

MyLimeGuide · 14/08/2025 19:18

I think its you that is rude, and the other 2, and very angry!! Ruby1985 is not alone in her thoughts, humans are allowed to not like dogs and some dogs DO get all up in our personal space, it happens, a lot and its very annoying.

That’s your opinion and l have mine, you’re very biased, to say my post was angry but because you agree with Ruby1985, theirs wasn’t.Unlike Ruby1985 l don’t take pleasure in coming onto threads, talking about hate.
Of course people are aloud to dislike dogs, but this isn’t about disliking, this is about posting about hate Ruby1985 getting very angry that dogs, walk in a public street, on a lead.Using the excuse that dogs come up and sniff them.Sorry but l don’t believe that, dogs are regularly approaching and sniffing them🙄
Ruby1985, posts, full of hate and because you feel the same way, you find that acceptable.

Yes completely agree. That’s really good, we might have had a difference of opinion on a different thread, we can both see beyond that and yes us humans have more in common than our differences (that’s so well said)

Glindaa · 14/08/2025 23:24

dogs are individuals with their own unique characters. You don’t know them all (or any), so to say you don’t like them really just means you’re prejudiced and bigoted against dogs . Take time to get to know some, then decide :)

Hate dogs. Hate cats. Anyone who has an animal in their home, sitting with its genitals and shitty arse on their furniture is a filthy fucker.

Guess you don't have/like kids then?

Or met my dad 😂

Noodles1234 · 15/08/2025 21:48

I have both cats and dogs.

Many people find it acceptable to say they don’t like cats, but it’s not the same for dogs and I’m not overly sure why. Both can attack, dogs usually less likely but can cause more damage.

I like both, love and care for them, but im not one of those potty people who insist on taking the dog into every shop. Our local FB page is awash if a (fresh food / bakers etc) shop asks to keep them outside. It causes a lot of heat on FB. I was looking at beds the other day in a well known department store and someone invited their dog to jump on the display bed!

mi don’t think you’re unreasonable at all, and yes I’ve noticed a popular demographic as you mention. I think just because those groups have suddenly more time on their hands and can devote the time. My annoyance is people leaving their dogs for hours on end everyday and their dogs barking and howling annoying all local people.

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 15/08/2025 22:33

I will not trust someone who doesn’t like dogs! I am a dog person and have a dog and I 100% trust his judgment over anyone else’s!

They have a sense of knowing who the good people are.

It’s ok not to like them jumping over you and licking and kissing you getting all up in your space! I totally get that.

OonaStubbs · 15/08/2025 23:16

So do the dogs that attack and kill people "know who the good people are"?

Dogs killing people is rare and you know this.

One interesting factoid is that human bites are a lot more dangerous than dog bites because human mouths are dirtier, contain much more dangerous bacteria and are far likelier to give rise to infections. These infections tend to be far more difficult to identify and treat. A human bite, unlike a dog bite, can give you Hep B, Hep C and the HIV virus.

So keep an eye out for this "OonaStubbs" poster, everyone. AFAIK she is unmuzzled and allowed to roam at will.

There are plenty of dog free places. And it isn't unacceptable for people not to like dogs, nobody has said it is. It's perfectly normal for people to have preferences for things.

What is unacceptable, however, is threads like this repeatedly being started purely to ridicule, demean and threaten dogs and the people who share their lives with dogs.

None of us really care if you don't like dogs, that's fine, we just get fed up with you finding it necessary to continually tell us how much you hate them and us. Why can't you keep your hate to yourselves?

Exactly this.

I love children, and have lots of nieces/nephews, but I’ve never had one rubbing their bare genitals or shitty arse on my sofa.

They wait until you're out of the room.

Why are you so bothered, about someone else’s sofa
(your comments are so o.t.t, judgemental and gross)
You don’t like dogs, so what.If other people choose to have their dog on their sofa, it’s nobody else’s business, mind your own.

Don’t know where you go to😂 I’ve never been to a cafe or a pub, where dogs are barking at each other and roaming around.Quite the opposite, quite often there’s only one dog, lying on floor, not causing any disturbance. That’s probably why, cafes and pubs allow dogs.Really don’t get, why you feel the need to say, dogs don’t have the same rights as people, hmm yes we know, but if it’s ok with you, people will take their dogs out with them.

Because there are always crazy entitled people popping up on these threads who think that they can take their dogs bloody everywhere, Asda etc, no!!!
I see the dogs looking stressed in very busy pubs etc. The owners are just asking for trouble when their "fur baby" bites someone that got to close to it. I purposely give these dogs a wide berth of they appear stressed out.
There are places where they just shouldn't be! Oh and yes, if a dog sees another dog that it takes a dislike to in an establishment not meant for dogs, then they WILL bark at each other!! They're not going to have any manners or politeness because they are DOGS.

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 17/08/2025 10:09

Imagine a dog bark puncturing the refined, rarified atmosphere of the pub. I think I'd drop my smelling salts.

Funny how the real entitlement comes from the dog haters who exaggerate just to make a point. Nobody here is saying dogs should be everywhere, only in dog-friendly places that welcome them. Pet industries are thriving because dogs make people and businesses happy and profitable, not the entitled minority of dog haters. Misery loves company, but companies love dogs! 🐾

Lurleenlumpkin79 · 17/08/2025 12:03

Not a dog hater as I own a dog. A gorgeous little Shih tzu. But I respect other people's space to not inflict him on everyone, everywhere I go. 🙄

Poor Shih Tzu, guess that means he stays home. I don’t take my dogs to shops, dog-friendly cafés or everywhere I go either, but I’ve got better things to do than police those who do. 🙄

DiordreBarlow · 17/08/2025 14:04

Pubs are one of those places where dogs have always gone.

When I was a young in the 1960s there were always dogs - often several of them dozing in front of the fire. Old boys always seemed to have a collie or terrier with them and many pubs would have their own dog there in the bar, often a German Shepherd dog or a collie.

In country pubs now there are often more dogs in the bar than people.

I don't know why some people have become so precious about this now.

That’s laughable, entitled, the posters who hate, there’re not posting about dislike, let’s be clear, it’s hate, are coming across are unbelievably entitled, as they always do on these threads.
For for work, l travel, all over the uk, l eat out a lot, go to public houses, cafes, l’ve never seen a stressed out dog, dogs barking inside, so forgive me if l don’t believe you, will go on my own wide experience, not from someone who has no patience and clearly hates dogs.Dogs at Asda’s 😂 yea right, of course you have, when have supermarkets allowed dogs inside, unless it’s a guide dog? How often does this happen a guide dog in a supermarket? However this is in line with uk law, guide dogs are allowed anywhere.
Your post is again, another patronising, angry comment, from yet another person who hates dogs, we know they’re dogs, we also know, dogs, are allowed to walk, on a lead in any street, are welcome in most public houses, cafes, when people take their dogs there, they are not doing anything wrong, it’s perfectly legal. You can get as angry as want, make things up to fit your own narrative, it’s not going to change anything.
I’ve just read apparently you have a dog, of course you have🙄 🐾
