I give up. I was brought up to be independent. I got pregnant at 16 ir was not I’m dead! I had the kid (she's now a Dr) I was a board director in a FTSE 100 at 32. I worked hard. Why are there so many posts on Mumsnet by women who can't take responsibility?

“I was brought up to be independent”, well that probably has a lot to do with it, you had supportive parents. Huge numbers of people do not. Everything you have achieved stems from having been incredibly lucky to start with.

I’ve never felt the need to be “independent” or shout it from the rooftops. I don’t feel beholden to my DH either though.

Maybe some women work in partnership with their male partners, they like the teamwork, they think going through life and raising a family with some support is preferable
