to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

Could be diabetic and her insulin pen.

stay out if it - just not your business

Jumpthewaves · 11/08/2025 17:34

None of your business, leave the poor woman alone.

LadyTable · 11/08/2025 17:34

No-one should be making a song and dance about weight loss/diets/exercise etc.

It's mind numbingly boring.

But did she really say "Anyone can do it?"

And has she actually lied about being on the jabs?

TaupeLemur · 11/08/2025 17:35

My diabetic mother has a pen. Keep your nose out, not your business. The jabs don’t magically dissipate fat cells, she still has to exercise and cut back on calories and eat healthy options and smaller portions.

PinchOfVom · 11/08/2025 17:35

It’s embarrassing losing loads of weight! Kee your nose out of it!

SomeOfTheTrouble · 11/08/2025 17:36

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

Crunchymum · 11/08/2025 17:36

Sure thing.

People bring their (expensive and more often than not refrigerated) weightloss pens to work and also happen to leave it in plain sight of the OP.

Absolutely did not happen.

Weepixie · 11/08/2025 17:36

She owes you nothing by way of explaining her weight loss and all the more so just so you can have a gotcha or I knew you were moment.

You need to keep yourself busier at work and get over yourself.

spoonbillstretford · 11/08/2025 17:36

None of your business.

Merryoldgoat · 11/08/2025 17:36

To be honest I’d not have managed to say something because of the performative bollocks.

I’m on MJ and have lost 4 stone. I’ve told anyone who asked. There’s nothing shameful about being on them but pretending it’s some new-found strength of character it’s fucking irritating.

Tubatuber · 11/08/2025 17:36

Really? Most people keep their injections at home in the fridge.

You really need to butt out. It is none of your business. If you keep harassing her you are going to into trouble with HR.

icouldholditwithacobweb · 11/08/2025 17:37

MYOB. Her health is none of your business.

DarkForces · 11/08/2025 17:37

She's losing weight because she's eating less. It's not a magic short cut.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/08/2025 17:37

SomeOfTheTrouble · 11/08/2025 17:36

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

Agreed. As others have said, it's more likely to be diabetes medication.

verycloakanddaggers · 11/08/2025 17:37

I can't see why it makes any difference to you either way.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/08/2025 17:37

None of your business.

TaupeLemur · 11/08/2025 17:37

She probably feels she has to say something because unfortunately people do notice and feel free to comment on weight loss - and gain.
I can’t stand people in the office who go on about their food, exercise, plans for losing weight etc though - it’s fucking tedious. I work with a lot of blokes and have to listen to them wittering in about their protein intake and their Strava ‘achievements’ etc … so dull!!!!

VeryStressedMum · 11/08/2025 17:37

Apart from the fact it’s none of your business, it was most likely not one of those pens as they are usually kept in the fridge. People don’t tend to carry them around like it’s insulin.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 11/08/2025 17:38

I think Sally lives in your mind and this is a thread to bash those on WLI…

ExtraOnions · 11/08/2025 17:38

Why would it be in her bag, not at home in her fridge?

Battels · 11/08/2025 17:38

And the whole office burst into cheering when the OP called her out.

It’s a once a week thing as well, so would be a bit odd if she was taking it into work… no need to. They’re kept in the fridge.
There are other reasons to have a self injecting pen thatndoes need to be carried or taken daily…

You don’t know her story. My friend’s DH has to have the jabs as he has diabetes and a heart condition. He has to lose weight faster or this could kill him even though he’s dropped quite a bit through exercise!

gamerchick · 11/08/2025 17:41

I always thought they had to be kept in the fridge.
