to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

I am not concerned. She is the one who is always talking about it. Keeps telling us to stop snacking like she has.

Well hasn’t she stopped snacking? Chances are she has, that’s why she’s lost weight.

JohnTheRevelator · 11/08/2025 18:16

She probably hasn't said anything because so many people are very judgemental about weight loss injections.

Stupid post. They have to be kept refrigerated until they are open, and then they are used once a week. Why on earth would she bring it into the office. It is the sort of thing you do quietly at home - not balanced in the ladies at work. I am sorry but I don't believe you. And in any case, why on earth should she "own up" to anything? Should people "own up" to BP medication or taking the odd pain killer?

Well she DID lose weight through dietary changes and walking.

The WLIs do not make your fat evaporate, the diet you follow whilst on them does.

My diet to lose weight on WLIs is different, and more disciplined, than my diet when I am maintaining my weight on WLIs

Imagine eye rolling and smirking like mean teenagers at someone's medical treatments? Vile

Edited

We roll our eyes at her telling people they need to lose weight and it’s easy as she’s done it. Then lying about how she’s done it.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 11/08/2025 17:36

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

This. If it really was a WLI pen then she would almost certainly be keeping it in her bathroom at home. There's no reason for her to have it in her bag. I suspect the OP is not giving the correct picture

Londontown12 · 11/08/2025 18:17

Non of your business
if she is fibbing I can see why !
Dont judge her it could be she is diabetic or she could b on auto immune drugs they come in similar pens !
Just be happy for her 🥰

SkylarFalls · 11/08/2025 18:18

WillyWonkasPurpleHat · 11/08/2025 18:14

I dont think OP was until Sally kept banging on about it just being willpower when it appears she is lying and on WL drugs

Yeah

But that's what WLIs do!
They give you the willpower / headspace to do it
The rest is still old fashioned diet, tracking and exercise!

Meltyourpopsicle · 11/08/2025 18:18

You still need willpower and commitment. I was on the jabs and didn’t lose anything because I don’t have the willpower and motivation. So you’re talking bollocks.

JustAboutHangingInThere · 11/08/2025 18:18

It really is none of your business. Willpower and self control and adhering to a healthy balanced calorie deficit diet are still required whilst on weight loss injections. The ‘food noise’ is turned down but it’s not magic and requires effort. Well done to her. You should celebrate her achievements and not be sitting in judgement.

I have seen her having snacks quite a few times. She tells other people off for having snacks though.

I mean, definitely dont say anything but

If I were her, I wouldnt be going around banging on about my various diet methods when whats actually working is mounjaro

Like, just dont say anything. Otherwise you invite questions

Same as someone suddenly sprouting bigger boobs and banging on about her chest workouts at the gym, rather than just going about her business with big boobs 🤷‍♀️

No judgement at all, i actually have huge respect for anyone on a wl journey, but what shes doing will backfire when the questions inevitably come

Merryoldgoat · 11/08/2025 18:19

SkylarFalls · 11/08/2025 18:10

You still have to be disciplined on WLIs
Sometimes that means you have to make sure you're eating enough

As well as tracking macros to minimise pancreatitis risks

As well as being disciplined to use them for creating NEW habits

You wouldn't tell a smoker who used nicotine patches that they didn't use any will power to stop!

No, but if the smoker was going around telling everyone they’d gone cold turkey and not needed any assistance it would be disingenuous.

No one needs to share anything they don’t want to but pretending it’s all due ONLY to dietary changes and willpower is strange.

I’m ok with people knowing I’m on the jabs. If I wasn’t I’d take them, keep my mouth shut and say I’ve been trying to lose weight if asked but not offer any information or thought on how easy it is and that ‘anyone can do it’

betnet · 11/08/2025 18:20

upandleftthenright · 11/08/2025 18:14

Made up. You need to medically keep the pen in the fridge.

So surely that's your issue, not whether or not she 'admits' to using WLI, that she's a bit of a diet bore. Just ask her to stop commenting on your food choices.

PutThe · 11/08/2025 18:20

betnet · 11/08/2025 18:13

That's fine but she is always talking about diets and weight loss. It is her business but then why keep talking about it all the time?

Because when you have lost weight it’s fair game for anyone to speculate about it and comment on it. Or start a thread on MN about it. At least this way she can largely be in control of her own story. It won’t stop everyone making up shit about her though. As you’ve shown.

Do you feel the need to call out anyone using collagen or fillers? Or someone who is looking brighter because their antidepressants are working?

We roll our eyes at her telling people they need to lose weight and it’s easy as she’s done it. Then lying about how she’s done it.

What's the lie?

All WLIs do is level the playing field so that people with out of whack GLP-1s can then follow the lifestyle plans that work for people who don't have disordered GLP-1

If she's on a plan that she feels good about why not enthuse

If you don't need WLIs then you are you cheating? By having normal GLP-1 regulation?

WillyWonkasPurpleHat · 11/08/2025 18:21

SkylarFalls · 11/08/2025 18:18

Yeah

But that's what WLIs do!
They give you the willpower / headspace to do it
The rest is still old fashioned diet, tracking and exercise!

But it isn't just willpower.

I have been on them for 7 months and have no desire to eat much at all, the "food noise" has gone - so it isn't will power.

I haven't told anyone, but I am certainly not banging on about everyone else food like Sally is as though I have finally seen the light!. She should just keep her nose out of other people's choices.

Teenytwo · 11/08/2025 18:21

🐂💩.

Why would she have it in her bag at work? If she was keeping it a secret why would she leave it on display? Why is it any of your business? Why are you so invested that you have turned an online forum to judge her for it - maybe that’s why she hasn’t confided in you!

BigOldBlobsy · 11/08/2025 18:22

As others have said, could it be:
Vape
Diabetic pen
Epi pen
?

even so, best to mind your own business! She doesn’t owe anyone an explanation

XenoBitch · 11/08/2025 18:23

Doseofreality · 11/08/2025 18:08

I know someone doing the same, brags that she’s lost 6 stone through dietary changes and walking and suggests to other’s they should do the same.
We all know she’s on the jabs, she’s in all the groups asking for and giving advice.
We just roll our eyes and laugh at her.

But you do change your diet when on the weight loss jabs.

I know someone on them who lived on takeaways and crap from the local garage. On the jabs, he does not crave the bad stuff anymore but has to make sure he eats, and healthily. So he is now eating things like stir fries, and upped his veg intake by a lot. He is also trying to walk a lot more.

I swear some people on here thing the jab dissolves fat. It does not. They make you feel less hungry. They don't impart you with knowledge on how to cook a healthy meal, or suddenly make you want to exercise. You still have to want to do those things yourself.

How awful that you would laugh at someone who is trying to better their health.

CoffeeCatsandBooks · 11/08/2025 18:23

I have lost a stone and a half in 3 months. People keep saying is because I am on the injections. Im not! I cut out snacking (which was a massive thing for me), cut out drinking coke zero (I was drinking at least 2 lt a day), started going to the gym, drinking water and eating more healthy. I dont go preaching about it, but when people ask me i tell them exactly what i have done. I avoid the “biscuit tin” and nibbles because I am too weak to have only one. People around me think is because I am “obviously” on the injections. It annoys me because it has been really hard for me to have made all these changes, and is a daily struggle to stay on them for people who have nothing to do with my life (ie. work colleagues, people i know and am friendly with) to say its because of something else. Just as a side note, needles absolutely freak me out! I get massive anxiety and panic attacks when i have to get anything medical that requires a jab.

it has nothing to do with you, she owes you absolutely nothing. If she says is not the injections why are you doubting her?! Do you pay her rent? Buy her groceries? If not, butt out!

To be honest I’d not have managed to say something because of the performative bollocks.

I’m on MJ and have lost 4 stone. I’ve told anyone who asked. There’s nothing shameful about being on them but pretending it’s some new-found strength of character it’s fucking irritating.

Yep agree I used MJ lost 3st10lb and the first question anyone asks is ‘have you cheated/used drugs? ‘ which is equally annoying but then so is people preaching on about diets so mostly agree, nothing do with anyone else really x
