to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

My guess is that ops made that but up if not the whole story

LastKnownSurvivor · 11/08/2025 18:07

She doesn't owe anyone an explanation.

Doseofreality · 11/08/2025 18:08

I know someone doing the same, brags that she’s lost 6 stone through dietary changes and walking and suggests to other’s they should do the same.
We all know she’s on the jabs, she’s in all the groups asking for and giving advice.
We just roll our eyes and laugh at her.

Same as when people have their teeth done/cosmetic surgery/fillers etc and want people to think it's all natural, I guess.

Well not really, WLI is a medication prescribed by a medical professional, used to treat a medical condition (obesity). It’s not a cosmetic treatment.
Everyone is entitled to keep their medical history private.

loveawineloveacrisp · 11/08/2025 18:09

What the actual fuck has it got to do with you?

You still have to be disciplined on WLIs
Sometimes that means you have to make sure you're eating enough

As well as tracking macros to minimise pancreatitis risks

As well as being disciplined to use them for creating NEW habits

You wouldn't tell a smoker who used nicotine patches that they didn't use any will power to stop!

CrispySquid · 11/08/2025 18:10

Why would she take her very expensive weekly weight loss injection that needs to be kept refrigerated, to the office and have the syringe exposed in her bag (not in a case or pouch or packet or anything) in plain enough sight so you could see?! Especially if you say she’s being evasive about it?! Why would she need to inject herself with it at work instead of the comfort of her own home?! Absolutely nobody does this.

If the story is true (probably not) maybe it was an insulin shot or something else?

If it is a weight loss injection, just be kind and act like you are none the wiser and be happy she is feeling healthier.

betnet · 11/08/2025 18:11

Tubatuber · 11/08/2025 17:36

Really? Most people keep their injections at home in the fridge.

You really need to butt out. It is none of your business. If you keep harassing her you are going to into trouble with HR.

Where did I say I was harassing her?

It's literally got nothing to do with anyone else.

I cannot imagine being in the slightest bit concerned about how a colleague was losing weight.

ByLemonFish · 11/08/2025 18:11

Maybe she's worried about criticism
I've been on mounjaro since end of June and have only told my brother and 2 of my cousins

betnet · 11/08/2025 18:12

And the whole office burst into cheering when the OP called her out.

I haven't called her out and haven't told anybody.

Well she DID lose weight through dietary changes and walking.

The WLIs do not make your fat evaporate, the diet you follow whilst on them does.

My diet to lose weight on WLIs is different, and more disciplined, than my diet when I am maintaining my weight on WLIs

Imagine eye rolling and smirking like mean teenagers at someone's medical treatments? Vile

That's fine but she is always talking about diets and weight loss. It is her business but then why keep talking about it all the time?

Ooh do I need to admit that the reason my skin has improved in the past few months is due to collagen?

Ask you to take into consideration that I also take magnesium supplements to help me sleep?

Heck, I even used to take tablets so that I could have sex and not get pregnant. Does that need to be run past you too OP?

Louiestopit · 11/08/2025 18:13

Does it matter?

I’ve lost 16 stone over the last 4 years, 3 and a half of that this year. I’ve been “confronted” so many time this year about weight loss injections. No matter what I say, there are a couple of people so angry at me, wanting me to admit it. One person stopped speaking to me over my “lies.” I’m sure there are more people convinced I am on it and lying.

I’m not on them. I just stopped eating anything processed and I don’t eat sugar or fake sugar. I was 27 stone and killing my self and I decided one day that I didn’t want to be that way anymore. It’s a very boring story. That’s it. My only “secret” is that I was diagnosed with celiac, so that cut out a huge swathe of crap (McDonalds and Greggs, my old loves 😭), and the rest was easy.

But when I tell people that, they won’t accept it.

MrsSunshine2b · 11/08/2025 18:13

It is amazing how many people have been on fad diet after fad diet, some for 30+ years, and finally found that the solution was simply calorie counting and self control, right around the time the weight loss jabs went on the market.

I know someone who has never been below a size 20 since she was 16 and over the past year has dropped to a size 14, all through the power of just eating less and her personal trainer, who she meets up with every day and is definitely not sleeping with.

It's an incredible coincidence.

I dont think OP was until Sally kept banging on about it just being willpower when it appears she is lying and on WL drugs

upandleftthenright · 11/08/2025 18:14

Made up. You need to medically keep the pen in the fridge.

I am not concerned. She is the one who is always talking about it. Keeps telling us to stop snacking like she has.

you diet when you're in the weight loss phase of using WLIs!

You don't have to run anything past me but then don't keep going on about it all the time. I got told my lunch was unhealthy.

Scarlettpixie · 11/08/2025 18:16

Mounjaro (in the UK) is a multi use pen (lasts 4 weeks) that only needs to be kept in the fridge until first use. After that it can be kept at room temp although a lot of people just keep it in the fridge.

It is hard to believe that someone would just have it in their bag at work. You only jab once a week and it isn't time critical.

Mind your business OP and maybe be glad for her that she is doing something to improve her health. If she is pretending not to be on it, that will be in part to people (like you) being judgy about weightloss injections.
