To feel inconvenienced by a tragic accident?

OnemargarIta · 11/08/2025 11:36

I'm currently in Italy (staying in Rome) for three nights. It's my first foreign break in a warm country and I've been so excited and saved up especially.

We booked an excursion for today consisting of a trip to Sorrento where we'd spend time exploring, visiting shops and enjoying local food - and then on to Pompeii on the route back.

We've spent the whole morning/day so far stuck in traffic on the motor way. We are so behind schedule we can now no longer go to Sorrento first because Pompeii closes at 5.30 and there won't be time. A sit down restaurant meal will now be replaced by a takeaway which will be eaten on the coach.

We've just been told the cause of the traffic jam and it's because somebody has died in a collision on the motorway.

Instead of feeling saddened about the loss of life I just feel inconvenienced and pissed off that the highlight of my trip has been ruined.

Does this make me a shitty person? It just occurred that it might 😳

Fair enough. Thats your opinion.

In my opinion, all the posts attacking her and talking about what wonderful people they are because they would feel devastated by it weren’t genuine.

She deserves to be attacked.
She deliberately started a thread, ( under a new name), that she knew would trigger some people.
She has constantly put anyone down who has questioned her and used numerous laughing emojis throughout this thread.
It's not really the sort of thread you'd use a 😂🤣 on, is it?

Justchilling07 · 13/08/2025 11:55

I find that very hard to believe because that hasn’t held you back in anyway, there’s no excuses for how you’ve lead this thread and been nasty to people who disagree with you.And conveniently denying what was said in the deleted posts.

Why have you not called out the people calling OP a tosser? Was that not nasty? OP hasn’t called anyone names.

And you are not the judge of who has ADHD.

No one deserves to be attacked. And you think YOU are kind? Shockingly spiteful. Give your head a wobble and grow up.

nomas · 13/08/2025 12:16

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 12:10

Oh, and also the constant laughing emojis.
Some of you are easily taken in.

The comment above yours has a laughing emoji. Will you also be calling her nasty?

She deserves what has been said to her.
It's you who needs to give your head a wobble.
You're grasping at straws to defend the undefendable.

Clutching at straws.

So posters can call OP names like tosser but she is the nasty one? How does that make sense?

nomas · 13/08/2025 12:19

LemonCheesecake2025 · 13/08/2025 12:18

Clutching at straws.

Op can’t even use an emoji without being attacked for it. Ridiculous.

nomas · 13/08/2025 12:18

Because that's what she has come across as.
No decent person would start a thread like this.
Does the namechange tell you nothing?
She was obviously ashamed to use her real username as she didn't want her S&B friends to recognise her and see what kind of person she can be.

Volturra · 13/08/2025 12:23

I can't see many people virtue signalling on this thread so the posters calling people this are wrong.

The chorus of 'Yes. You are a shitty person. HTH.' much of which was in response to the original question certainly struck me as virtue signalling and sanctimonious.

Even if you were shocked at a perceived lack of empathy, the above is unhelpful. A response more along the lines of "That doesn't sound normal. Do you experience a lack of empathy in other situations? Have you spoken to anyone about this?" would be more constructive.

But that wouldn't be an opportunity to parade your own goodness, would it?

I completely disagree that a lack of sadness in this situation means someone is lacking in empathy or morals. I think it's very normal, in fact.

Thank you for putting it better than I could.

Some of the replies have really made me laugh so thanks for that. No, not the posts from people talking about having lost loved ones.

"Get up you fucker, I want to see Pompeii!" Is gold.

I do find it odd how mumsnet is KNOWN for being full of snippy and cold posters, especially on AIBU, yet suddenly the forum is full of fluffy super empaths who feel the pain of every Tom Dick and Harry who've ever lost somebody or a cat within the span of 10 countries.

Personally I think lots of you are full of shit (people who relate to the accident/death aside) because I've seen a fair few of your names before being rude as hell to other OP's 🤣

For those asking why I started the thread, I was stuck on the motorway with nothing better to do. HTH

This post basically sums her up.

Exactly. The fact that the blindingly obvious hypocrisy is seemingly not obvious to that poster does make me think she’s on the wind up TBH.

Feeling empathy is for the other person
Gobbing off about how empathetic you are is for you.

Gobbing off, the irony of it! from someone who has plenty to say for themselves. Most of it repetitive and patronising. You agree with op, l get it loud and clear, however you are not going to forcibly change other people’s view, who have the audacity! to disagree with you and op.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 12:29

OnemargarIta · 11/08/2025 15:41

So leave the thread, why are you re-traumatising yourself on purpose by reading along and posting repeatedly?

Not much empathy from her here, either.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 12:26

And I agree with everything she says in that post. She’s absolutely correct. She even made a point of saying that she’s excluding people who have suffered similar. I assume the posts that have made her laugh are the ones that are attacking her.

Well, she has a point. Why stay in a thread you find triggering?

Yes, I know that 🙄 It's the rest of her post and especially the 'HTH'. Comes across as crass in the situation.

Exactly! Christ, if you’re so fragile that you can’t read words on a forum then stay off the forum! OP isn’t responsible for managing stranger’s feelings for crying out loud. I thought we had moved past the “I’m triggered” childish bullshit.

I’m convinced what they’re actually upset about is that their attacks on the OP don’t seem to be upsetting her. She has a thicker skin, clearly.

Yes, OPs on AIBU are not allowed to talk back for some reason!
