Mortified by DH’s behaviour in Asda

EllyRoff · 09/08/2025 09:01

Went to Asda yesterday afternoon - ours has a pharmacist in there and DH needed some Laxido so we went across. The woman serving said they didn’t have laxido but they did have movicol which is the same thing with a different name. DH asked her if the ingredients is exactly the same as he has to be very careful with what he takes (true) so she went off to check with the pharmacist. Whilst she was gone DH was looking around him all anxiously and then as she reemerged she walked over to him smiling - he promptly sticks two fingers up at her and then runs off!!! Leaving me stood there like an absolute clown. I was mortified, apologised profoundly to her and walked away. Later caught up with DH who had simply gone back to shopping in Asda as if nothing had happened. His excuse was that he was scared to take something different but was feeling pressured and didn’t know what to do so legged it. I asked why on earth he swore at her and he said he “just panicked”. I’m still furious, my mum thinks I’m over-reacting a bit but DH can do no wrong in her eyes. Am I over-reacting??!

@LancashireButterPie Exactly. In this context, his bizarre behaviour is abusive. It’s not an episode of The Inbetweeners.

People rabbiting on about different sense of humours are missing the point. Swearing at staff is not okay, there are massive posters all over NHS settings (including pharmacies) stating as such. The OP’s husbands behaviour was bizarre and unnerving, if I was that staff member I would be dreading him returning and wondering what he might do next. If this was my husband I would be concerned for his mental state as it is not normal or acceptable behaviour.

Sad that so many posters are attempting to normalise and justify this behaviour.

😂😂😂 that’s brilliant lol.

ASDA seems to bring out the worst in people. T-Rexig, flicking V’s and running away… must be something in the air vents.

😂

Inapickle3012 · 09/08/2025 12:37

Omg is that what we call abuse now 🤣🤣

I would say it’s abusive behaviour yes. What did the woman do to justify it? Would you be ok if some stranger stuck their two fingers up at your mum or your child?

Low bar of basic civil behaviour on here.

Why is it brilliant? 😕

Forestfire12345 · 09/08/2025 13:48

Christ what fucking weirdo . There's something so child like about that I think I'd be scunnered 🤢

Yes do tell, as other pp asked, why is it brilliant?

bumblingbovine49 · 09/08/2025 13:49

Well this thread has confirmed my assessment of my own strangeness

I have been in bed all morning having a very bad day so far but the op's post made me laugh so much I was breathless for a few seconds.

I know it was a strange and rude thing to do but op please let you dh know he has ridiculous cheered up an unknown stranger on the Internet.

At the same time do tell him he can't do that again. As this thread has shown, most people would ( reasonably of course) be upset by this

Now excuse me while this 62 year old woman with what is obviously the sense of humour of a 12 year old boy goes off to laugh some more.

BluntPinkNewt · 09/08/2025 13:50

wtf 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sidebeforeself · 09/08/2025 13:51

One wonders what he’d do in the Sistine Chapel…

Weird. Really weird.

So you're ok with weird, obnoxious , rude behaviour even if you’re the recipient of it?

Why on earth are people continuing to contribute to the worst and longest thread jack that I've ever seen on Mumsnet?

The poor OP came here for help, yet everyone's more interested in engaging with a random idiot, and her problem has disappeared under the dross.

yes, me thinks, this certain poster, is lovely the attention. It’s so repetitive, best to be ignored.

I must admit to a little chuckle at the vision of a grown man flicking V's at the artwork in the Sistine chapel and then running away.

That sounds like a cartoon.

Quick question OP.

It seems fairly unanimous on here that his behaviour was in appropriate.

Why does your mum think you are "over reacting" by being embarrassed by it.

I think that is quite undermining and feels like its encouraging you to dismiss things that you think are not acceptable. Does she often do this?

"DH can do no wrong in her eyes" ?

That sounds like this is a frequent turn of conversation.

I’d like to know too.

thebraveryofbeingoutofrange · 09/08/2025 13:58

Bet he wouldn’t do it to a copper.

Yes I agree. It’s getting sidetracked so I won’t respond to that poster anymore.

OP maybe find out a bit more about this UTI.

The world needs far more individuals like your DH. Far too many people taking themselves far too seriously. Good on him.

On the contrary, the world needs less people being dickhead towards people working in retail.

Did we ever find out what T-rexing in Asda looks like?

t rex GIF

this?

beAsensible1 · 09/08/2025 14:10

What a loser.

too scared to tell someone he doesn’t want an item so he swears and runs away? I can’t even fathom the thought process

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/08/2025 14:10

Well they have face recognition in Asda. I bet they’re have a right bubble bath at him.

PollyannaNibbs · 09/08/2025 14:11

Did he perhaps have a UTI as well as constipation? That can result in some really bizarre behaviour

My mil has regular UTIs. It's easy to diagnose because of her odd behaviour and delusions.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/08/2025 09:58

It does when it's a response to the question "are you right in the head".

Well, you can be autistic and ALSO not right in the head, they’re not related.

What on EARTH are you talking about? Good on him for swearing at the woman who had taken time to help him and then running away? Hahah what a silly lark! Fucking hell.
