To feel very uneasy at the latest 'conspiracy?' theory doing the rounds on social media?

I keep seeing different versions of the same thing, people saying that there are 'isis sleeper cells' hiding among migrants and there are plans to target children/schools in a terror attack.

I rolled my eyes to begin with thinking it's all scare mongering or it could be some idiots trying to drum up support for 'Reform'

However, there's a sizable amount of people vowing to keep their children off school and not send them back in September on account of these rumours. That's what got my attention.

Am I being unreasonable/ridiculous to feel unnerved by all of this talk? Do you think there's any truth in it?

Very unlikely, it’ll just be scaremongering; if there were ISIS terror cells they would be keeping their plans top secret, not spreading them around social media. I can’t think of a terror attack which was doing the rounds on Facebook/ Instagram first, can you?

I 100% believe there are sleeper cells in the UK and USA and there will be an attack - but have no thoughts on their targets.

However it’s really not healthy to dwell on the what ifs…you’ve just got to live life.

Thank you for this. I avoid the news for the most part as it's all doom and gloom, all of this was on social media. I think I'm going to swerve it for a while. It's not good for mental health reading all of that.

Of course there’s some criminal types in these hotels - there’s no checks being made on identities. Not out of the realms of possibilities that there are men who belong to terrorist organisations amongst the “boat people” and recruiting.

On the other hand, I would expect the security services to have some undercover people monitoring things just in case.

By social media, do you mean X? You don’t get more anti people of colour than there so you need to take the extreme shit with a pinch of salt as with all platforms and opinions of the other extreme too.

The schools won’t care if parents switch to home schooling as is their right. Fewer kids in the classroom makes their lives easier and if the school is oversubscribed then people can join from the waiting list. I’m not convinced that there are significant numbers who are going to do this though- I’d be surprised if it’s more than a handful per county because parents need school to help them go to work.

Not impossible but I strongly suspect that it’s anti-immigration scaremongering. If the people posting these “theories” have hard evidence of sleeper cells, I would hope (a) they pass it to the security services and (b) the security services are already aware.

Bottom line is there is very little we can do about this stuff. We just have to rely on the security services and police to do their job.

Security in schools increased fairly markedly around 2016 in the UK. Most have restricted entrances and are blocked off from road traffic by fences and gates now. The same happened at airports and train stations where you can no longer drive right up to them in the same way. Large planters, benches and cement balls appeared along pavements in towns making it hard or impossible to mount the pavements in many town centres. I think threats of all sorts are mitigated for but life can never be completely safe. Sleeper cells are not something I would lose sleep over.

I work with migrants from every country. Most too busy jumping through immigration hoops to bother bombing us.

Will there be some ISIS chaps in the UK? Yes. But many will be born here.

I have seen this posted a few times on Facebook but always by people who are not the brightest and I wonder why they aren’t embarrassed.
Ask yourself what sort of terrorist organisation would be advertising something like this? One that wants to get caught before they can carry out their plan it seems.
