To feel very uneasy at the latest 'conspiracy?' theory doing the rounds on social media?

I keep seeing different versions of the same thing, people saying that there are 'isis sleeper cells' hiding among migrants and there are plans to target children/schools in a terror attack.

I rolled my eyes to begin with thinking it's all scare mongering or it could be some idiots trying to drum up support for 'Reform'

However, there's a sizable amount of people vowing to keep their children off school and not send them back in September on account of these rumours. That's what got my attention.

Am I being unreasonable/ridiculous to feel unnerved by all of this talk? Do you think there's any truth in it?

I've name changed incase I'm being ridiculous 😩

Please be kind, I have PND so I'm easy to scare I guess and would like some perspective from the level headed folks on mumsnet.

Prove its nonsense

Yes that one was doing the rounds after the 9/11 attacks.

It was also doing the rounds in the 80s/90s, only it was an Irish accent.

DreamyHazelBiscuit · 14/08/2025 18:16

It's all over social media so why would it be fake

OonaStubbs · 14/08/2025 18:16

The thing is, there will be an attack sooner or later and the conspiracy theorists will see it as "proof" that they were lied to.

Are you new to the internet or just extremely gullible, or both? Or on a wind up?

You surely can’t be serious?
Also it’s not on mine (except this thread).

Yeah, you can say that again. Too much anti intellectualism being pushed because it’s beneficial to certain politicians if people can’t use their brains properly, as well as the fact that dismissing education helps boost the egos of those who aren’t very well educated or intelligent to begin with.

Since Covid and all the mass distrust and nonsense that spread during that time, it’s played right into the likes of Nigel Farage’s hands because people believe bullshit more readily. No wonder he came out of the woodwork at just the perfect time, hey 🤔

Top post, @Teanbiscuits33 .

The gullible are easily manipulated, algorithms play the far right's favourite tunes and some people fall for it all.

In all my 70 years, I have never been more disheartened by the state of our politics.

Because of other things you’ve reacted to/engaged with. I haven’t seen it at all except this thread and I’m on FB, insta, threads and Bluesky.

cardibach · 15/08/2025 18:22

I’ll ask you again @DreamyHazelBiscuit - who is posting it, and who advised you to keep your children off school/nursery?

KandyKrush · 15/08/2025 18:31

Posted. By. Who? Who is posting it? Are they reliable. Who is advising you to keep children home?
Not where are you seeing it.
Who is telling you?

Dwscotlandmum · 16/08/2025 16:23

Can I also mention that we are all scared of these men coming in on boats but alot of people are radicalised in their British homes, have lived here their whole lives. Surely the threat has always been there and continues to be.

Oh, this sort of whispering campaign, although not on the net, has been going on since the IRA were running riot.

Best ignored. Get on with life as normal.
