To be so fed up amd disheartened with all the xenophobia

1000 replies

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 21:56

Honestly, I’m just feeling worn out and heartbroken lately. It seems like racism and xenophobia are becoming more and more mainstream again, wrapped up in the same tired scare stories, whether it’s splashed across a tabloid or coming straight out of Farage’s mouth. Then you see stupid threads on here about civil war trying to stir up more hate.

Even my own brother has started sounding like Tommy Robinson. Ten years ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. It’s like people have completely forgotten the lies we were sold during Brexit—by Farage, Tice and their crowd—and yet they’re still lapping up everything they say. No critical thought, just blind anger pointed in the wrong direction.
I’m so fed up with the endless nonsense about small boats, “white minorities,” and all the rest of it. It’s all designed to divide us, stoke hate, and distract from the real culprits—rubbish politicians, broken policies, and the ultra-wealthy hoarding resources while the rest of us struggle.

But instead of looking upwards, it’s always “blame Johnny Foreigner.” It’s exhausting, and frankly terrifying how quickly people fall for it.

Is anyone else feeling this? How are you managing conversations when even close family seem to be buying into this stuff? I’m trying to stay compassionate, but it’s getting harder to bite my tongue.

Many people voted for Brexit under the impression that it would reduce immigration, particularly from Poland and other Eastern European countries.
What actually happened?
After Brexit, freedom of movement for EU citizens ended. However, the UK government changed immigration rules, expanding legal migration routes for people from outside the EU. This included an increase in student visas, care worker visas, and dependent family visas.
The result: while EU migration declined, non-EU migration rose sharply. Many arrivals, especially in the care sector, have low incomes, and some households may rely on state support.
Ironically, the overall net migration figures are now higher than they were before Brexit.

That’s the issue, they wouldn’t have us and they wouldn’t be putting us up in temporary accommodation until we get processed. Why do you think they pass through so many countries to come here? It’s because the UK is so attractive due to what they can receive when they get here. It’s been acknowledged time and time again that the system has to change in order to get back some control but anyone who agrees is racist.

Yep! This word (the last one in your post) has become meaningless now sadly, as people chuck out this insult for next to nothing, (and often for actually nothing!)

I can't take anyone seriously who throws this out at people for no good reason, and often won't even engage with them. Because I find them utterly ridiculous.

This! I'm fed up with the race cards, the racism towards white people. You say anything about boats or illegal migrants and its 'facism, racism, xenophobia, islamaphobia'.

I wonder why it would even cross anyone's mind to call you racist?!

Because there’s no logical response to refute the concerns about asylum seekers and illegal immigration. Attack the character is the only option.

I don't see any of mine or 'my ilk's' posts deleted. As you have noticed a bunch of posters, take a look at the poster's name, whose posts were deleted, You want a thread cancelled, because it doesn't align with your views? Have a think about that.

Ah, more posts have been deleted. I guess tolerance only works one way.

Seeing as this thread is completely fucked like all the other ones, I’m just going to have a little tangent and say this is an interesting thought, what do you mean more broadly? I feel like I know what you mean but I can’t quite see it.

Cards on the table and at the risk of chucking a match on the existing pool of petrol, not the same discussion but a related one, I see a strong parallel in the posting style of some (not all!) GC posters and some (not all!) anti-immigration ones on this thread. Particularly the ‘answer my question’ stuff and the #bekind hashtag. That’s interesting to me.

I can see it too but can’t quite explain it either. Perhaps it’s a classist thing. Oh well we will drag you into this and appropriate you and speak for you type thing.

I have worked in a care home. Quite a lot of them are quite anti immigration. They depress their wages. Doesn’t mean they don’t like and don’t get on with their fellow colleagues or people of varying origins. It’s not a personal thing. It’s economics of supply and demand.

It’s also quite complex because some migrants don’t like other migrants. And legal ones don’t generally like illegal ones.

I never understood the black women thing in the trans argument. But that whole thing was insanity so no point in trying to square a circle.

I don’t know if posters are the same. I am GC. I don’t post often though on that topic. I have spoken about immigration generally before. I think we have way too much. For societal cohesion, for integration, for our stretched housing and services. I have also spoken about two tiers before. You see some insanity in our town and you just think how are you getting away with that!

I have also spoken about hotels before. One is right next to my son’s nursery and I do not like that that much. It is a mainly family one so very little bother generally but there are people with mental health problems who once they leave the hotel come back to the area and stay as homeless.

It’s the first time recently I have been speaking about the male hotel and how the people next to it feel. It is interesting to meet other posters who are having similar issues.

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 05/08/2025 11:39

It's the whole painting of minority groups as "bad" that's the problem for me, and framing it as "what about the (usually reads as our) women and children" (as you don't usually see the same level of concern for women and children refugees in boats, much easier pretend there isn't any at all to fit the narrative")
Whether it's racism in the case of migrants, or LGBTQ people being painted as predators/groomers etc, it's the exact same bigotry playbook.
You're doing the same.
As a woman I'm personally fed up of being used as someone who is supposedly vulnerable and should be looked after only when it suits a bigoted narrative/agenda.

What’s that got to do with this? I’m a remainer, and hugely concerned about illegal immigration.

Why do they want to turn up to their oppressor? Why not seek to transform their country given we are no longer pillaging it?

Well, sadly -and I’m just going by what I know about the West Indies- Britain wasn’t viewed as the oppressor; incredible as that may seem given the savagery it inflicted upon their ancestors. It speaks to the ability of those in power to miseducate, indoctrinate and gaslight, amongst other things. Thanks to the British being in control of their education system, my parents and their ilk were given to believe that the Mother Country saw them as fellow Brits. Thanks to Christianity, they were taught to forgive. They were taught about the motherland as if it was some kind of Utopia, full of work, joy and good will to your fellow man. They learnt the English language to a higher standard than anyone I have ever met who was born in this country… mind you, I can say that about a lot of foreigners, frankly. There seems to be no shortage of English people who have yet to learn how to conjugate simple verbs, but I digress. They wanted to come here to work as picking were slim in their countries and because they thought they’d be welcomed. They were proud to be British.

Countries were bled dry, btw. A lot of the pillaging only stopped when there was nothing left to pillage.

How can you compare holidays to the racism that is on the rise in the UK! Perhaps do a bit of research and find out that illegal immigrants only make up 1.8% of the population of the UK! The biggest drain on resources are those claiming benefits and have never worked in their lives, perhaps we should target them! Farage cannot separate illegal migration from legal migration (around 13% of the population who pay NI and taxes in the UK) and wants a huge reduction in both! You do realise the NHS is reliant on internationally educated doctors and nurses, so enjoy life under Farage the white supremest should he come to power! I suggest watching his interview with Laura Kunsburg and if you’re educated you’ll see how totally out of his depth he is!

My post deliberately didn’t blame anyone. It merely explained what I believe are tensions rising over resources, rather than a simple boiling down to racism on the rise.

Or maybe because people are unable to make distinctions between various forms of migration - economic, asylum & illegal.

Try reporting your own thread, OP, and ask MN to take it down.

The bile on here merely illustrates the problem that you started the thread to highlight. I hope that MN will delete it for you.

Ask MNHQ to take it down. To be fair it was guaranteed to go the way it has, given the cesspit MN has become recently.

I prefer ‘suicidal empathy’.

OP - can you answer whether you think the factual statement that Afghan men are 20 times more likely to commit a sex crime is ‘hate speech’?

What is your source for this “factual statement”, please?

goldenquestion · 05/08/2025 11:42

Givemeachaitealatte · 05/08/2025 11:24

This is a disgusting way to talk about refugees, how do you know they won't bring their families over - it takes years to apply for asylum let alone apply for family to come over too.

The same way in which other men manage to curb their sexual desires - are you saying that all men can't control themselves?

I'm sure they've conducted thorough peer reviewed research...

Perhaps we ought to deport ugly white british men then who struggle to find sexual partners, can't be too careful can you...

Surely you can deftly smash the hate with figures showing we have enough room for millions more in the UK, we are not overcrowded, that the sex attacks and Cologne were all one big misunderstanding, and half the arrivals are women brought here by protective husbands who would never abandon them?

Christ on a bike. A person simply cannot or should not throw around incendiary comments like ‘extreme far right’, and not expect to be questioned about it.
