To be so fed up amd disheartened with all the xenophobia

1000 replies

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 21:56

Honestly, I’m just feeling worn out and heartbroken lately. It seems like racism and xenophobia are becoming more and more mainstream again, wrapped up in the same tired scare stories, whether it’s splashed across a tabloid or coming straight out of Farage’s mouth. Then you see stupid threads on here about civil war trying to stir up more hate.

Even my own brother has started sounding like Tommy Robinson. Ten years ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. It’s like people have completely forgotten the lies we were sold during Brexit—by Farage, Tice and their crowd—and yet they’re still lapping up everything they say. No critical thought, just blind anger pointed in the wrong direction.
I’m so fed up with the endless nonsense about small boats, “white minorities,” and all the rest of it. It’s all designed to divide us, stoke hate, and distract from the real culprits—rubbish politicians, broken policies, and the ultra-wealthy hoarding resources while the rest of us struggle.

But instead of looking upwards, it’s always “blame Johnny Foreigner.” It’s exhausting, and frankly terrifying how quickly people fall for it.

Is anyone else feeling this? How are you managing conversations when even close family seem to be buying into this stuff? I’m trying to stay compassionate, but it’s getting harder to bite my tongue.

YANBU.

I find it beyond depressing. I'm old, so I can remember the racist campaigning by the National Front and BNP in the 70s and early 80s, and this is starting to feel like that. It's become acceptable to say the same sort of racist and xenophobic things, as long as you're a bit careful with the wording.

I remember the far right being active in the area I used to live in, and the racist murder of a black teenager by a gang of skinheads near my (then) local Tesco in the early 80s.

And don't get me started on the "Nationalist Bookshop" 2 streets away that was used as a safe house for far-right Italian terrorists.

I can help you out there.

I particularly like the part about monogamous men being more intelligent.

Thank you, I cannot see how it measures intelligence, that is my concern. For example , I remember Gloria Steinem saying IQ tests favoured white people because (for example) asking the colour of a ripe banana: in white suburbs it would be yellow, in predominantly black suburbs it would be mottled/ spotted due to the quality of the food available there, so the black respondent would give an 'incorrect' answer due to the bias in the testing.

So, you want us to have respectful debate and say that calling you stupid, racist etc achieves nothing - which is correct I take that point, but as soon as I say something sensible that you don’t want to hear that goes against your existing beliefs, you shut it down and call me deluded. It’s not really a wonder people get frustrated. It’s pointless. There’s something more fruitful to be had out of banging one’s head against a brick wall.

Can I borrow your brick wall 😁

But you haven’t said anything sensible. You’ve said grown men are raping children because they’re upset people are waving flags, and that their country is so unsafe they must flee but also leave their wife and kids there alone for years while they get the paperwork and benefits sorted.

None of that is sensible. If you believe it, you were born yesterday.

No, I'm saying that you believe women and children come later, I'm saying they don't.

Totally agree, luckily I haven't come across this in my own family and social circle yet, I say yet because the way immigration is rammed down our throats as the root of all problems it's only going to be a matter of time before some of those close to me fall for it. Obviously the small boats need to be managed and asylum seekers need to be processed much more efficiently but those are such a tiny percentage of immigrants that it all just sounds like hysteria to me, very worrying times

The rapes, sex attacks and even murders are ‘hysterical’ in your view?

They don’t ’go back’ for the women as in cross the channel again, they apply for them to come over after they have refugee status, and the women stay. The reason the women and kids stay behind is because

  1. the journey is perilous so the men do it so the women and kids can come over safely after the men are settled, and

  2. women and kids are at risk of being trafficked, so it’s safer for them to stay behind initially for that reason.

Did you think they did two journeys in boats?

They are all married with children?

Isn’t it a risk that the men are not granted asylum?

Some of the horrible, snide, gloaty comments on this thread totally support what the OP is saying. It's become much more acceptable to be openly racist in the guise of being 'anti woke'.

I agree, OP. Brexit made the immigration problem much worse, which has obviously upset people who were expecting Farage et al to fix it. They still think he will even though it's obvious he won't. And the thing is, immigration IS going to get worse, as climate change makes hot countries impossible to live in, and wars in the Middle East displace millions more people. We could look at sensible solutions for dealing with this as it arises - but instead the likes of Farage will just use it to inflame tensions and generally make the country a more unpleasant place for everyone, for the sake of a bit more personal power and money. I feel, unfortunately, that that's where we're headed.

There’s been a few ad hominem attacks this morning.

Thankfully, these posts have been taken down.

usedtobeaylis · 05/08/2025 10:33

They can't win can they? Bring their children and if they end up like Alan Kurdi it's their fault. Don't bring their children and they're fair game to bully and harass and set their hotels on fire. Its such a huge extension of the way people get mad about 'MY property' and spend their lives moaning about fucking fences and trees.

Well this IS our country. And thank fuck it is, as we don’t have a theocracy that stones women to death and treats them as sub human. Let me guess Gaza is for Gazans but the UK is for everyone and the Brits can go to hell if they don’t want to become a melting pot of just about every dictatorship around the world?

The women and children are usually held in refugee camps. No doubt you’ll just come back and tell me that’s wrong but oh well. You know best and are clearly very clued up with your extensive research.

YANBU. It's horrible and I feel so much despair about it.

You've got plenty of options

Provide shelter
Volunteer at food aids
Donate
Train as an immigration advisor

The first option, will, of course, need vetting. Turn your despair into pragmatism.

If they are being discussed put of context and in an inflammatory way leading to more violence, yes

As for harassment any word of support for the girls that are being harassed by these men as they simply try to walk to school? Including the Mumsnetter who was upset about the very same thing happening to her daughter?

How do you discuss sex attacks in an ‘inflammatory’ way? Is discussing the fact certain men are far more likely to commit a sex attack ‘inflammatory’, and as such we should ignore it and expose women to higher risk for the sake of accommodating men?

Well to say there are There are 195 countries in the world today. This number includes the 193 member states of the United Nations. They have a hell of a lot of options, would you not agree.

Why is it essential they only come to the UK, no one is forcing them.

I suggest that all of you who are in favour of the ‘boat people’ take them in personally and house them in your own property. Feed these men (because that’s what they all are!) give them a weekly allowance and trust them around your children and your valuables. Put your bleeding-heart, woke leftist ideology to the test and take them in yourself! Not one of you will do that because you talk the talk but don’t want to walk the walk!
I want to see a poster who has done this and posts about his/her experience. I don’t want to hear that you WOULD do this, because talking about a theoretical faint possibility that will never materialise is worth JACKSHIT!
