Because death and xbox are literally the only two possibilities.

LadyKenya · 04/08/2025 16:30

I'm sure the families of his victims don't really want to read this?

Starting a thread on this person, is in poor taste, imo.

Ashley911 · 04/08/2025 16:30

As a serial killer, he does deserve to die. But having video games in jail is not going to replace a person's liberty by any scale. It's important that there is not complete sensory deprivation in jails, as that would amount to continuous torture, for life in some cases

DiscoBob · 04/08/2025 16:31

There should presumably be some kind of 'happy medium' between capital punishment/state ordered killing and giving luxuries to mass murderers?

I would be pleased if Bellfield died, but I don't agree they the death penalty would make society a better place.

TerrierCollector · 04/08/2025 16:32

I don’t really see the problem with this. It causes al kinds of issues when prisoners are deprived this kind of stuff. It’s easier to keep them in line when they can have it.

As long as they keep him in there for the rest of his life, I couldn’t get worked up about this.

PassingStranger · 04/08/2025 16:33

Why is he getting these extras though?
What does it mean, their hands are tied?

Dozycuntlaters · 04/08/2025 16:33

Well for starters how do you even know this is true. And even if it is, regardless of whether he has an x box or not, life in prison will not be good for him. I am sure the main thing for the families of his victims is the fact that he is off the streets and cannot ruin anyone elses life.

The death penalty is not a deterrent, and makes no difference to people like Bellfield.

nam3c4ang3 · 04/08/2025 16:34

I am pro death penalty (I am from a country who still has it) but this country isn’t and so I respect its laws.

Can't you see there's a middle ground, OP?

I agree. It’s FIFA, he’s still locked up for the rest of his life.

And I’d imagine (but I have no actual knowledge of it), that things like that are useful discipline tools in prison, because they can be removed.

Plenty of people with complete liberty do nothing but sit inside and game. By all accounts it’s half the teenage sons on here.

According to the article, he’s an “enhanced prisoner”, which means that he will have met certain criteria about his behaviour in prison. It actually makes sense (to me, at least) to have some sort of scheme like this where prisoners can earn or lose privileges depending on their behaviour.

Very little.

Why does a whole life tariff mean he should get the bare minimum? Believe me I'm no fan of Levi bellfield but he must have met the criteria to get those items. The fry up is probably vile and is cooked by fellow residents.

There's other stuff more worrying like 6 prisoners on the run from an open prison. I say 6, moj aren't disclosing the exact number

So he hasn’t punched anyone in prison, whoopsie fucking do. He’s only murdered multiple women including a 13 year old schoolgirl who he tortured and raped for hours before strangling her. Leave him in a bare cell with nothing but a tiny window so he can observe the world he will never be allowed to join again.

This, absolutely.

I don't care if they give them weed to smoke either, if it makes them easier to manage.

Wolfpa · 04/08/2025 16:40

I would assume that you need the added extras in prison to keep order. People who have nothing to loose are dangerous to everyone around them.

If they have something to loose they are more likely to follow the rules and less likely to be violent against other inmates or prison officers.

Prostitutes as well? Maybe a boxing gym, access to Just Eat, a Porsche to drive around the prison yard?

DorothyWainwright · 04/08/2025 16:42

It should be up to the prison staff what privileges they get.

Prison staff have to deal with violence and assaults and need to manage prisoners behaviour accordingly. Would you like a prison of several hundred violent, angry men to feed and contain?

What violence and assaults would happen if they were in a thick concrete cell, alone, with a hatch for a bread roll to be thrown in twice a day?

Ashley911 · 04/08/2025 16:35

What do you think should be provided to someone in captivity ?

A bed, washing facilities, and the opportunity to work (prison kitchen / workshop etc). No television, Xbox, or other electronics. Books if they want.

jannier · 04/08/2025 16:44

PassingStranger · 04/08/2025 16:37

Very little.

Then they will riot and possibly hurt wardens there has to be some sort of discipline reward system not just solitary sitting

This is what makes prisoners riot. There is NOTHING pleasant about a Cat A prison (I’ve been, for work purposes). The beds are grim, the food is grim, the hygiene is grim, the smell is grim. There is an unpleasant atmosphere all the time. Locking people away with nothing to do makes them more dangerous. The prison officers was who work there deserve to be safe from harm. So do other prisoners.
