Many years ago Marks & Spencer sold a cheese and apple sandwich. It was grated cheese mixed with some kind of mayonnaise and with chunks of apple. It was amazing. Then it stopped and it never returned. Would I be unreasonable to email their head office to ask for them to reintroduce it?

Bitz bars made by Terrys. A mix of plain and milk chocolate with crunchy mint pieces. They did an orange one too. I ate one every day when I was pregnant!

I got picked to do a trial on those before they marketed them! There were 3 bars with different amounts/sizes of bits, and I had to say which one I preferred!

Nature Valley did a biscuit sandwich for a couple of years. The biscuit was a sort of cross between hobnobs and digestive and the filling was peanut butter perfect sweet salt combination. They made a nice breakfast on the go snack

Ferrero (the company behind the Ferrero Rocher) used to have a chocolate called the Ferrero Fresco Mint - it had a liquid centre and was really nice - they discontinued that years ago - I may have nostalgic memories of it because it was something my husband and I used to buy as a treat when we'd only recently started going out together- this was back in the early/mid nineties.
I once actually emailed Ferrero to ask (insist!) they brought it back but, alas, they fobbed me off by saying they didn't have the ways to manufacturer it anymore!

I remember Ferrero doing Pocket Coffee. Oblong chocolates with a liquid coffee centre. Gorgeous.

In the mid/late eighties, Sainsbury’s used to sell their own brand cream cheese. It was in a deep, round tub and looked similar to Philadelphia, but tasted unlike any cream cheese I’ve come across since. It was absolutely gorgeous. I used to buy tubs and tubs of it whenever I was in Sainsbury’s. I still miss it, 30 odd years later…

Also the late eighties, at around the time that the problem with CFCs really became an issue, Vidal Sassoon started selling pump bottle hairspray. It was scented with this really lovely almond smell. I wish they’d sell it again.

Galloway’s cough syrup - thick, almost black and really aniseedy. It was really nice dissolved in some boiling water and sipped slowly if you had a really bad cold.

Rimmel Rich Raisin lipstick. It was one of the few shades that really suited me and I have never found any other lipstick in quite the same shade.

I really miss the Vidal Sassoon range in the brown bottle 🥹

This is an old one, but much missed; Sunpat Cheddar Spread, an orange coloured cheese spread in a jar, I loved this on toast in the 80's. Where did it go?!!

Probably the same place all the Nuclear Waste went 🤣

For very valid reasons, the formula changed, but - Doctor Collis Brown drops, for upset stomach and diarrhoea. It was originally devised in Victorian times, used by army and explorers in tough conditions to keep the troops going, but when I was a child, nobody had got around to changing the prescription. A few drops were stirred into a small glass of hot water, and as you sipped, you could feel warmth spreading through your stomach, any griping calmed down, the nauseous feeling subsided , and purging stopped. Fantastic!
Unfortunately, the active ingredient was opium, and if not diluted correctly, a small bottle could deliver a fair old addictive slug! Pharmacists eventually raised the alarm at the number of bottles some people who were getting addicted were buying was alarming.

On a lighter note - Cadbury's chocolate made to the original recipe.

M&S apple, celery and walnut coleslaw.

Waitrose chicken thighs with apple and walnut stuffing.

I worked in a high street pharmacy in the early 70's, and we were very careful who we sold Collis Brown's to. We were registered dispensers of Methadone to addicts, so of course they tried to buy other stuff from us too. As far as I know, M&S still do the salad. I lived in Central London in the 80s, the number of addicts queuing for Doctor Collis Brown (liquid in a bottle), claiming terrible stomach ache was a sight to see at Bliss Chemists (open 24 hours even in those days). The pharmacist would shake the bottle violently before dispensing it, made them wait for their fix (they used to wait for the clear liquid to settle).

That's also reminded me of Woodward's Gripe Water (prior to the removal of the alcohol) - I can still taste it!

Oh just remembered the chocolate thing, was called a Trio. I remembered the ads before i did the bar, but remember having them in my lunchbox as a kid.

The Coop Use to do a 'Winter Warmer' cordial. It was lovely with cold sparkling water but absolutely gorgeous with hot water.

M&S Belgium chocolate covered cornflakes. They were bags of individual cornflakes, each one coated in thick chocolate. They were utterly amazing.
I used to mix them in a bowl with chocolate covered raisins, and it was blissful.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned Pacers. No one I speak to seems to remember them. They were same as Opal Fruits/Starburst but mint flavour. They were white with green stripes across them.
