I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

That’s exactly the problem - it’s all PR and no policies.

On the illegal immigration issue (which is apparently a very big concern for a lot of people), Labour occasionally put out a press release vaguely hinting at doing something but then nothing seems to happen. Meanwhile, rightly or wrongly, a lot of anger is brewing over the extra pressure on local services but still the gov appears to be frozen and unable to work on a humane solution.

All pr and no clear policy (can't let the government see your homework ) is exactly how Labour achieved a stomping majority in the last general election.

Well, of course it is. Although, I wonder what you think Labour might have up its sleeve to get the electorate back on side?

At the moment, more in common think Reform will have 170 more seats than Labour, Find out now over 200, YouGov more than 100 - that's a lot of momentum Labour will need to gather.

Doesn’t have to be Labour. It’s looking very much as if we might be looking at the demise of the two party monopoly in British politics. Reform was beaten by the Greens in the latest by election, I foresee a huge amount of tactical voting to keep them out. Hell, I’d even vote Tory to do it.

So 35-45 years ago. That's why it's outside of living memory for many adults

How bad do Labour want it to get for graduates now?

What, you'd vote for the dark side and endure the ranting of the righteous? I'll make a spot for you on the bench

Catsandcheese · 01/08/2025 12:43

One of my children graduated in 2013 and it took over a year to find a job. The same for friends kids. It is in recent memory in fact just after the chump increased the fees having promised not to. But that’s the Lib Dem’s for you.

I see a huge amount of tactical voting to keep Labour out.

I’d sell my soul to the devil to keep Reform out.

OtherS · 01/08/2025 12:46

I'd worry more about the government we've got right now, if I were you. We'll be lucky if there's an economy left to wreck by the next election, I can't see how any party could do much more to damage growth and investment than this lot have. Another that very much misses Sunak, his policies genuinely were starting to turn things around, and he seemed like a pretty decent guy. But he didn't communicate well with the public, he didn't advertise that his policies were working and it was mind-numbingly idiotic to call the election when he did. He really was a dreadful politician, though I don't mean it as an insult. It's very depressing to see all the lines going up after he took over, then crashing down after a few months of Labour. Still very much hoping the Tories sort themselves out, but at the moment I'm not sure there's enough talent in the party to run a parish council, let alone the country. Would still vote for them over this lot though.

There won't be a country left by the end of the next four years, so it's pointless worrying about what the future might look like apart from we know it won't be good regardless of who gets in. The West is coming to an end and we're in for a bumpy ride. Just take each day as it comes.

The end of days is nigh! The hysteria is real.

Bruisername · 01/08/2025 12:48

I just hope Rachel Reeves listens to the very smart civil servants in the treasury before her next budget

they need to turn things around if they want to keep the electorate on side.

I think people just lapped up the media stuff against him and thought Labour would be amazing - what a mistake. You can see it on here pre GE.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 01/08/2025 12:49

I won't vote for Labour. I think I might be an anyone to get Labour out voter but then I look at the Greens and, well, there's a limit.

You couldn't sleep for worrying about it? Really? I don't like Reform, and think they're dreadful, but that sounds OTT even to me. Seriously, do you usually worry about things like this? So much so that you can't sleep. Things that are asbolutely out of your control?

Why ISN'T it something to be worried about?

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 01/08/2025 12:53

Poor Jonathan -not a solicitor - Reynolds has been in the unenviable position of having the tell his colleagues that there's no magic wealth tax tree to save them at the autumn budget

BIossomtoes · 01/08/2025 12:46

Same.

@Cluborange666 I wouldn't worry too much.

There has been three local by-elections in the last three weeks. Reform has come third in two and second in one. It might seem as though everyone supports them on SM, but reality may be very different.

In general, at least 70% of the electorate don't support Reform. Come 2029 there will be a lot of tactical voting to keep Farage out. Like BIossomtoes, I would vote Tory to keep Reform out if I had to.

Catsandcheese · 01/08/2025 12:54

I would also vote for anyone to keep Reform out.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 01/08/2025 12:54

The daily mail doesn't help the situation, they love to incite angry racist minds, poisoning the public.

I can't imagine how it feels to arrive in a country, left sitting around all day, being aware of the hate directed at you.

I don't have the answers, it's sad passing these men with their heads down around the ipas centres.
