I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

You are "conservative voter" with a small c?

Well, I made a pragmatic choice to vote conservative - I'm not building an identity out of it.

Goldenbear · 02/08/2025 14:16

twistyizzy · 02/08/2025 13:49

But you can spot a Reform voter from sight anyway so why would they try to hide it?

Because it's embarrassing.

Xenia · 02/08/2025 14:18

I am optimistic. Democracy tends to work well and it is the best system anyone has come up with. It will all be fine. However if the state does not listen to the people then democracy will certainly do its thing and the state will only have itself to blame.

In your bigoted opinion. Other people think differently, I know you find that a hard concept.

Interesting use of the word, 'bigoted'.

Interesting use of the word, 'bigoted'.

Yep someone who has strong, unreasonable prejudices and a refusal to consider different opinions. It implies intolerance and a biased viewpoint, often directed towards groups of people with different beliefs

Very apt from your posts.

Embarrassing? I would be embarrassed to admit to being a Labour supporter right now.

Because it's embarrassing.

Doesn’t this depend on context. They might hide it from a Labour / Lib voter who looks particularly irritating and ready for an argument.

Is this a description of your average Reform voter.

I couldn’t vote for Reform for lots of reasons.

But it’s silly to paint the average Reform voter as a racist thicko. Many, perhaps most, will be former Labour voters.

I mean I don't really hang around with people that declare they have a strong allegiance to any political party but they would never, ever vote Reform, it's just not what we are about.

But it's ok for 'twistyizzy' to declare me a "bigot" because I don't want to vote for Reform, bit hypocritical isn't it?

I’m not getting into poster-on-poster spats. Sort it out yourself.

My point was general.

Saying that you are a bigot is not the same as saying that all those who won't vote for Reform are bigoted.

Also, it's pretty crucial that people are aware of who they are aligning themselves with, rather than just passively standby why the Populists take over the country. Don't you think there is a responsibility to inform yourself of a parties values and vices before you vote in them to govern you, don't you think it is your civic duty?

I call you a bigot because of the things you write about Reform voters. The fact you can't see that explains a lot

An unsuprising 2/3 rds think YABU, that us because Mumsnet as a whole is a very right wing forum.

We WILL end up with a Tory/ Reform coalition at the next G.E. , and Nigel Farage - a lazy, racist, grifting shit stirrer and friend of the orange paedo in the U.S. - Will become our Prime Minister.

If you a Reform voter, the inevitable destruction of this country is on you. You've never given this Labour Government a chance.

Oh, and if you are a Reform voter/supporter, yes you are a racist. Admit it and own it. The only 'policy' they have is STOP THE BOATS, with no idea of how to do it.

Is MN right wing?

Try being a graduate under Thatcher

I left school under Thatcher 6 Olevels was extremely shy and awkward so failed all my interviews, went on the YTS scheme then got a job at a bank. All my friends had summer/weekend jobs including students The eighties was a time of posivity and hope for the future (unlike now).

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 02/08/2025 14:50

@twistyizzy didn't extrapolate your prejudice and ascribe it to other people at all. It's quite the leap.

twistyizzy · 02/08/2025 14:50

Goldenbear · 02/08/2025 14:48

That you can spot one just by looking, is 1 example. Replace Reform voter with something like Jew in your sentence and you see the issue?

Goldenbear · 02/08/2025 14:48

I don’t think I have quoted twistyizzy. In any event I’m not supporting any attacks on you.

My point was just that Reform voters are disillusioned with the Tories and with Labour. These voters may or may not be bigots, individually, but both parties have been happy for their votes in the past.

And I don't think the Labour Party was concerned about their boost in polling following Starmer's Island of Strangers speech, were they?
