I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

Cluborange666 · 01/08/2025 09:15

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

An unsuprising 2/3 rds think YABU, that us because Mumsnet as a whole is a very right wing forum.

We WILL end up with a Tory/ Reform coalition at the next G.E. , and Nigel Farage - a lazy, racist, grifting shit stirrer and friend of the orange paedo in the U.S. - Will become our Prime Minister.

If you a Reform voter, the inevitable destruction of this country is on you. You've never given this Labour Government a chance.

Oh, and if you are a Reform voter/supporter, yes you are a racist. Admit it and own it. The only 'policy' they have is STOP THE BOATS, with no idea of how to do it.

Typical, how come you can get away with saying all reform voters are racist??? (The majority of UK btw) Can I get away with saying Labour voters are simple?

StandFirm · 02/08/2025 08:48

Travelatot · 01/08/2025 22:22

I wouldn’t lose sleep over it but I think it’s going to happen. Their analysis of what ails the UK is sometimes spot on. However, they offer simplistic solutions to complex problems, don’t have an understanding of anything much, and their ‘respectable’ front masks something much darker. It’ll be a disaster.

Indeed. Asking questions is easy. Solving them is another matter altogether.

That post is very Labour mn. An AS, sneering and gif.

I don’t think some get how disliked their party is and can’t understand posts not pro Labour.

I am so sorry my post was so triggering.

Eta: the thing is, it is so glaringly obvious at times. It is so tempting. As Wilde said, the only thing I can't resist is temptation.

These passive aggressive comments about blood pressure and being triggered are totally beneath you Pandora. Usually you can at least be relied upon to have a point of view.

Really?

You put in the time to AS a poster and find a gif I think it was you who was triggered.

Means nothing to me, except observing how you react to people who don’t like Labour.

Aweekoffwork · 02/08/2025 09:09

Think the £2.8 Trillion Debt (or higher) and the Govt borrowing more every day is a bigger worry in my opinion. Why do Labour want to save the World, whether it is famine or war, when this country is falling apart and gradually turning into a Third World country?

dottiedodah · 02/08/2025 09:10

Kindly I voted YABU not because I want a Reform Govt( truly terrifying thought IMO)but because realistically not much anyone can do really.I mean obviously not vote for them, but if people decide to thats up to them. Often things on your mind can be indicative of other underlying worries in your life .Maybe talk things out with friends ,(make sure they are not supporters of Nigel first!) We know of people that threaten to vote Reform .Expecting a whole new England!

WTF do you mean by the majority of the UK are Reform voters? There are FOUR Reform MPs. And you're calling people simple.

Aweekoffwork · 02/08/2025 09:18

Maggie Thatcher said there was no such thing as PUBLIC money..it is TAX PAYERS money …so when we have so many net contributors in the country, the scales have tipped the wrong way

I am really sickened by MN at the moment.

And it is not about people not agreeing with me politically, before anyone starts. It is the daily, relentless stream of hate, racism and Islamophobia that sickens me.

All of it has always been present on MN, but the last couple of weeks it has massively ramped up.

Normally I try to stick to mostly posting facts to counteract some of the absolute bull that is posted. But it is pointless. People just want to hate and blame.

The pp probably means voting intention which in some cases is over 30%

Don't worry too much. Being sickened by MN has recently been added to the list of things that the Labour government will give you benefits for, under their sweeties for all policy.

No. I haven't slung shit. I have made a few snarky remarks. I have made no personal attacks or anything like that.

MN has been swamped like a lot of social media.

That is what the poster meant. @MiloMinderbinder925 knows that the op isn't having sleepless nights because there are four reform MPs sitting in parliament. I'm not sure what is to be gained by the faux ignorance?

I can see why you feel that. There are some hateful posts on this site about Muslims. And those posters should be ashamed.

But I’d hope you can also see the revolting antisemitism that is proudly and frequently displayed by so many on MN. There seems to be no shame among those people.

It's just a reflection of the mood of the country. We voted labour for change and they are just giving up the same shit but on steroids.

I don’t think Labour posters help on this. Usually passive aggression, insults or bot accusations. Mn just isn’t all pro Labour as they had pre GE.

Support is falling, it’s a public site you won’t get all posters as Labour if that’s what you’re after.

LakieLady · 02/08/2025 09:26

Reform bang the drum about stopping the boats. How will they do that? The tories were prepared to waste millions and how are they going to solve it? I am genuinely interested because no one has solved this yet Reform will magically do this?

I'd very much like to know how they will do it, too.

The last time I looked into the policy, I could only find a proposal to take them back to France. I think that would bring the UK govt into conflict with the French.

Even if it succeeded, I'm sure desperate people would soon find another way.

Debating skills overall and everywhere have sunk very low. It's not the preserve of one type of voter. Aggression and belittling are to be found on all sides. It is also entirely possible to loathe Reform and their rank hypocrisy and not be a labour voter.

Stating facts is 'faux ignorance'? The OP isn't having sleepless nights at all, in fact yet another Reform thread has been started where the OP hasn't come back. Talking about faux ignorance.

summerskyblue · 02/08/2025 09:29

For now I worry about the Labour government.

I voted for them and they have been appalling so far & it is clear Reeves is destroying what was left of our economy after years of Tory mismanagement.

Labour's failure is one of the main reasons why Reform are polling so high.

Still time to turn that around but Starmer needs to get rid of the chancellor first...
