I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

Cluborange666 · 01/08/2025 09:15

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

Oh no!

Some crappy Tories allowed in fuckwit, useless and self-serving Labour. And then another lot come along collecting under the banner of ‘none of the above’. Super. 🙄

Please, Kemi, please, I beg you, reassemble a proper Tory party. Otherwise we’re really stuffed.

Just imagine another five years under Starmer, this appallingly ambitious but cowardly and talentless little shit… 💩

Or five years under Monsignor Farage, the Cardinal of Grift.

😱

😂😂😂

Im sorry, but that is hilarious. You literally couldn’t sleep because you’re worried about a right of centre government getting elected in a few years?!

Some people really need to get a grip. You don’t even know they are going to destroy the economy, or even do a terrible job? You want them to though, clearly.

If certain problems in the country aren’t sorted, and Labour certainly won’t then what do you suggest? You have no idea what an actual “far right” party could look like, because Reform certainly isn’t that.

Why is this country full of so many shivering pansies these days.

Right of centre?? Are you quite well? What is remotely close to the centre about reform? And if reform are right of centre then what do you class as far right and how do reform differ from them?

Support reform all you like, but I have no idea why you laughed at OP, because to suggest they are anywhere near the centre is even more hilarious than anything OP said and suggests you’re not very politically aware. I laughed out loud at the thought that someone thinks this 😂

SarahJane03 · 02/08/2025 02:18

If you are seriously worried you will lose your job, look for another. But I don't see the migrants stopping any time.

Teanbiscuits33 · 01/08/2025 21:37

But people who advocate for free speech mean that that free rein to be as racist, ableist, and misogynistic as they like, incite violence and hatred as much as they like and they should be allowed to do so without any consequences. That’s fine, is it?

Yes, free speech does mean people are free to have all kinds of opinions, even nasty ones.

It does not mean they are allowed to tell defamatory lies about individuals.

For example, I am allowed to have the idea that all men secretly hate women and would like to enslave them, and I am allowed to express this view publicly, even try and convince other people about it.

I'm not allowed to say that Kier Starmer keeps sex slaves in his basement, or even that he would like to keep sex slaves in his basement.

That's the law and it really isn't that complicated.

Nobody said NF was a paedophile, just that he is an enabler if he opposes the bill that intends to keep kids safe from such content on the basis that it undermines free speech, which is the reason he gave for opposing it.

I mean, given that he closely aligns himself with the likes of Trump, he clearly has no problem with paedos and rapists, even if he says the opposite publicly and acts as if he gives a shit about women and girl’s safety.

Like I said above, I’m not sure what his agenda is, but it’s probably closer to wanting to influence children while they are most impressionable. I’m not surprised he got called out for opposing for the reason he gave, though!

Labour only have themselves to blame. Unless Labour actually listen to the electorate Reform will be in power. Stop benefits for illegal immigrants and stop boats rocking up on the south coast daily and maybe Reform will be held back. Until then Reform is a done deal.

Illegal immigrants are not entitled to benefits.

They only become entitled to benefits if and when they are granted refugee status.

twistyizzy · 02/08/2025 07:50

Teanbiscuits33 · 01/08/2025 21:44

Farage isn’t interested in safety of women and girls like he says he is unless it’s an opportunity to incite hatred towards immigrants. He never mentions SA when it’s committed by white men, never even mentioned the time when his own nephew got done for upskirting and supports a rapist who said he’d date his own daughter, lurked in the changing rooms at beauty pageants, thinks it’s fine to ‘grab ‘em by the pussy’ and is in the Epstein files. Of course Farage is whiter than white 😂. Judge ‘em by the company they keep.

Unlike Labour protecting Dan Norris ie child sexual predator you mean?

twistyizzy · 02/08/2025 07:53

Teanbiscuits33 · 01/08/2025 22:44

He’s already pally with a paedo, and it’s in his interests to have kids exposed to misinformation and hatred etc while they are very impressionable and easily influenced so maybe that’s his agenda. He has vested interests in digital media. Reforms popularity has exploded through social media misinformation spreading, for one thing.

Labour have paedophiles in their ranks ie Dan Norris and sexual assaultera Gwynoro Jones. They are up to their eyeballs in the grooming scandals.

LakieLady · 02/08/2025 07:58

Radioundermypillow · 01/08/2025 09:27

I agree that Labour have been really disappointing. And seeing Starmer sitting with Trump, looking like he'd been given a mild sedative, gave me the rage

I'm no Starmer fan, but I'd need a sedative if I had to sit next to the bouffanted orange twat.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 02/08/2025 08:00

What you are saying amounts to a sleight of hand. Most illegal small boat migrants apply for temporary asylum, they are then housed and fed and given a stipend by the state. That seems like a benefit to me - even if that isn't 'benefits' though some evasive specificity.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 02/08/2025 08:01

And I think that that's probably for the best. But I'm sick to death of the lying about it.

Jennps · 02/08/2025 08:05

LakieLady · 02/08/2025 07:24

Illegal immigrants are not entitled to benefits.

They only become entitled to benefits if and when they are granted refugee status.

They get state funding for everything from day 1, even for things that those already here cannot get. So they are entitled from day. These get all of those things under a different pretense. It is outright gaslighting to suggest otherwise. You can

There’s a left-of-centre ‘progressive’ mindset that they are better and more caring than people who disagree with them. They drink the Kool-Aid and convince themselves of this tosh.

Doesn’t matter what the issue is - could be trans rights, or net zero, or the NHS, or trade union rights, or Brexit, whatever. If you think differently to them about any of these things you’re a bad person, even a fascist.

In fairness, I think the left genuinely believes this. It’s mass delusion, not usually just affectation.

LakieLady · 02/08/2025 08:28

I think the kids should be out on the streets protesting. If they were French they would be ;)

I agree completely. My son is just finishing his Masters and goodness knows what he will do next. He can do a bit of freelance work but it's pocket money.

The massive youth unemployment problem is being disguised by the fact that a lot of them are claiming benefits for mental health issues. But if they had jobs, they wouldn't have the mental health issues! It's chicken and egg.

I think it's really tough on young people now.

I'm a boomer, and left school in the early 70s. And I lived in London, so had the easiest time of it. You could walk out of a job, take a few weeks off and walk back into another, you got a grant and fees paid if you went to uni, cheap rented properties were plentiful, house prices were low relative to wages (I bought my first house at 26, with 100% mortgage that was 3 x my salary; to buy that house on the same basis now you'd have be earning more than £125k). You could train to be a nurse or a town planner while working, now you have to get a degree.

It seems like a golden age now, and it's really sad that kids leaving school don't have the same opportunities as we did.

It seems to have been encouraged on mn over last few years. Mockery, AS, gif, sneering, constant watching if people don’t like Starmer and Labour enough. It’s enough to put you off Labour completely that’s for sure.

And I agree on the ‘caring’ part, it’s self interest.

An unsuprising 2/3 rds think YABU, that us because Mumsnet as a whole is a very right wing forum.

We WILL end up with a Tory/ Reform coalition at the next G.E. , and Nigel Farage - a lazy, racist, grifting shit stirrer and friend of the orange paedo in the U.S. - Will become our Prime Minister.

If you a Reform voter, the inevitable destruction of this country is on you. You've never given this Labour Government a chance.

Oh, and if you are a Reform voter/supporter, yes you are a racist. Admit it and own it. The only 'policy' they have is STOP THE BOATS, with no idea of how to do it.

The only abuse I've experienced is from the Labour posters on here. The sneering assumption of intellectual superiority mirrors that of Starmer et al.
The metropolitan liberal elites who are rich enough not to be impacted by Starmer's policies yet have the nerve to dictate how others should think/feel/say.
That's why they are universally hated and why Reform has been given a foothold in traditional Labour strongholds eg Durham.

BlackBean2023 · 02/08/2025 08:42

People are working harder than ever to otherwise less to show for it. Meanwhile, the MSM reports on immigration rising and benefits increasing at a higher rate than wages. It’s easy to see why people want change.

I don’t think there’s any point being worried about a Reform government. It can’t get much worse than it already is.
