I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

If Reform get in OP, sorry to say but you and Labour voters deserve it. As do consocialist voters. You did this to yourselves. Now own it.

Oh, did Boris hand out a key to Downing Street for wallpaper, I must have missed that? Besides, I was talking about Sunak, but don't let that slow you down.

You like Sunak don't you.

Well they ain't in yet, so nothing to "own".

You think all they need is better PR??? FFS Phillipson already spends £90m of the Education budget on her comms team. Think of how that money could be used to improve state schools! But no, you want MORE taxpayer money to be spent on PR?

Labour need to stop fucking everything up, then they wouldn't need PR!

Given how useless and idiotic she is, surprised £90m is even enough. But just goes to show socialists like to spend other people’s money. But hey Labour voters can have a bit of that. After all they voted them in power, now squealing and worrying that they actually inadvertently paved the way for Reform.

Sunak was good. He was just leading a failed party.
Plus he looked and acted like a leader of a country.

Funny how Labour bang on about EDI yet Tories are only ones to have had female PMs (plural) + ethnic minority PM plus opposition leader and cabinet ministers. Plus PMs who were MC rather than UC way before Starmer.

Just my opinion, and nothing to do with competence, but Tories generally have better looking politicians too 😉 (with a few notable exceptions eg Boris/Rees-Mogg).

I remember one surreal event I think just before the election when Starmer was yelling furiously at Sunak about how racist and sexist the evil Tories were. The Tory bench was stuffed with man and women of every shade of skin, the Labour bench was white man, white man, white woman, white man, white man, white man etc. It was bizarre.

I've never understood how they could ever accuse the Tories of sexism when they've not even had a female party head, let alone PM. The amount of crowing they did about having a female deputy and female chancellor, like it was something amazing and ground-breaking, was absurd when they were facing a party with a female leader, which had already had three female PMs! If you turn the sound off and look only at their behaviour, they are very clearly the bigoted party. They're also of course the only political party to be found guilty of racism.

LlynTegid · 01/08/2025 14:06

By 2029 the Tories will have a new leader, Reform run councils will have failed such that it is ammunition against them, and via tactical voting the Lib Dems will keep most of their seats.

I don't see anywhere near a Reform majority, however much this Labour government is hated.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 01/08/2025 14:08

😁 J'accuse

I didn't like the fact that the public had a PM who was put in place by party members. I think it's bad for democracy - although, I understand that's how the rules go. And I think he made mistakes and I don't think he connected with electorate. But if I had to be stuck in a lift with him, Farage or Starmer - then yes, Sunak was preferable.

To be honest they really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find the deputy PM and Chancellor. No flex there.

It can’t.

In your opinion.

Hopefully we will never get the chance to find out

No party could do a worse job than Labour is doing. RR has wrecked the economy. Unemployment is rising. Migrants entering our country illegally are out of control. Far too many migrants are claiming benefits and not contributing to our economy.

Which councils have failed so far and actually bankrupted themselves? Were these Labour run by any chance?

EasternStandard · 01/08/2025 12:57

I missed that. Interesting

Just googled, ha I see

Oh yeah, the business secretary who hasn’t the first clue about business and would probably struggle to spell the word, and lied about being a solicitor. Taking a leaf straight out of the book of Rachel from accounts. She, herself, also accused of plagiarising other people’s work, lying on her CV and accused of fiddling expenses and abusing company time at HBOS.

And OP is oh so worried that Reform might be worse than Labour.

They yelled furiously about a lot of things. They’re finding it harder in power.

Bruisername · 01/08/2025 14:13

Our political system has pretty good checks and balances so we could probably weather 4 years of reform but I really really hope the power of the lords isn’t diluted more over the next few years

In the opinion of the bond markets actually.

They are racist (they ushered in a two tier race based citizenship system). I don’t find them especially sexist but the argument that having black and brown shields to implement your racism means you can’t be racist is moronic. (It also appears to be an argument most minority ethnic voters see through.)

I mean Bad Enoch is a woman and a mother but remind me of her comments on maternity leave?

Not the obsession with migrants again, jeez is this all many of you think about in your daily lives...

Whammyyammy · 01/08/2025 14:15

I worry about how Labour are wrecking the economy.
I worry about how much of the tax payers money is being spent in luxury hotels.
I worry about freedom of speech being taken away.
I worry about all the imported violence.

Tory and labour have been useless. I think Reform deserve a chance.

Yes, it's super cool to hand out passes to Downing Street to the donor who is putting your wardrobe together.

Super cool to boast on camera at a garden party that you took hundreds of millions of funding away from poor people and gave it to rich whites.

Is that what you said when the country voted Brexit too? Learned nothing, I see.

I did learn not to trust the great British public to not cut off its own nose to spite its face.

I did learn that parts of the UK are more bigoted than I thought.

I did learn that Farage has the ability to make people think he is one of them, on their side and can be trusted.

Goldenbear · 01/08/2025 14:14

No, I think more about education, free speech, the economy, jobs for young people, taxation, food security, conservation of our woodland and countryside etc. All of which are going to shit under Labour.
Personally immigration doesn't impact me (yet ) but I understand why many people who are experiencing the impact in their towns + cities do focus on it. I don't decry them as rascist or obsessive, I seek to understand their concerns.
