Adult DD has a love bite and I just hate it

is it really just me? She’s 23 and thinks I’m very unreasonable and no one else’s Mom would care. I think they’re vile when visible. It’s making what is private, personal. It’s huge. Luckily she works from home and isn’t the slightest bothered by it. I’m a little hurt that she knows I hate to see them on her but doesn’t care.

I’d care! Not classy. My own DD is 21 - if she came home with that I’d hand her a bottle of concealer and tell her to get on with it.

IlovePhilMitchell · 31/07/2025 22:18

It’s none of your business, get over it.

Clawdy · 31/07/2025 22:19

Didn't realise they were still a thing! I remember them from years and years ago.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 31/07/2025 22:20

I feel sad for her. So sad about what women are expected to put up with for disgusting men.

Waitingfordoggo · 31/07/2025 22:22

Ewww. My DD had some when she was 17/18. She had a fairly serious boyfriend at the time, but even so. I told her I thought it was rank. I don’t think she cared 😂I just found it weird at that age because I associate them with younger teens- maybe 14 year-olds.

She is 19 now and no longer with that lad and I haven’t seen any love bites on her for ages. Hopefully she’s grown out of it.

Zov · 31/07/2025 22:22

Oh My God how embarrassing. 😂 In 35 years together, DH has never given me a 'love bite!' It's the sort of thing that 14 year olds do to show everyone they've been getting a snog. CRINGE! 😬

YANBU @Rokuandice Imagine being proud of having a 'love bite' when you're in your mid 20s?!!! Has the spirit of a 14 year old girl from 1977 entered her body?!

What women are expected to put up with?

What???

BlondieMuver · 31/07/2025 22:53

It's not that big a deal but she's 23, bit old for love bites, that's a teen thing.

livelovelough24 · 31/07/2025 22:58

I honestly do not remember ever having one, but all my kids (I have three), have them regularly, all in their early twenties. Drives me nuts too.😩

I know it is none of my business but still..

Dazzlemered · 31/07/2025 22:59

My dd came home with them when she was about 17. I told her about the time I wore a roll neck under my work T-shirt because I worked with my mum and my BF at the time 🤣. I was about 17 so the same age as her. We had a good giggle.

I agree. Revolting territorial way of marking women.

Ladamesansmerci · 31/07/2025 23:00

I don't really understand why it bothers you. You're free to hate them, but keep the thought in your head. It's no biggie.

housemaus · 31/07/2025 23:13

You're not unreasonable not to like them, personal choice. But you are being wildly unreasonable to be 'hurt' that she's not making decisions about her own body and love life based on what you personally like, yeah. That's fucking weird.

Do women not give hickeys then, no? I'm all for pointing out the patriarchy but some of the stuff I see on here is genuinely mad.

Well yes, having your skin marked like that. Clearly, the man thinks he's marked his territory. Why else are they done other than to be visible.

I've never done it no.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 31/07/2025 23:19

Meh. Who cares?

Well not if she is happy wit it, which she appears to be.

Ah yeah, that statistically significant sample size of 'one person'.

Redflagsabounded · 31/07/2025 23:21

I got a few and gave a few when I was younger. It wasn't about marking territory - everyone tried to hide them but they felt nice at the time. Agree they look awful though so we all grew out of it pretty quickly. I'm sure she'll grow out of it too.

Because it's hot to have a reminder of someone you fancy on your skin? Because you like the pleasure/pain combination of the feeling when it happens and the mark is just a by-product?

I've seen women give these as much as men. Certainly not something I'd have seen as a gender based issue before.

I'm super pale and when I was younger I got them faintly without even really realising.

I don't think it's any of your business op. They look wild for sure, but she's an adult. It's up to her what she does.

Well, I think it’s reciprocal. I also spotted several on DD’s bf’s neck 🤢
