Immigration population up another 700k

1000 replies

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:35

I understand that this country needs immigration but if you import 100,000s of low skilled workers, in their 30s and 40s, how are they going to fund their retirement or pay for their housing?

It just seems counterintuitive to bring loads of people into this country who will need considerable financial support ( housing benefits, pension credits) when they are no longer able to work, and don’t have the means to support themselves.

The problem is when the definition of “racism” is stretched well beyond its original meaning and used as a tool to shut down debate on matters just because someone has decided it’s racist. It’s censorship by stealth.

There is plenty of racist rhetoric on social media. Just head to the BBC news page. Nothing censored about those comments, quite the opposite actually.

Jennps · 01/08/2025 14:54

Quirkswork · 01/08/2025 10:35

Maybe someone grassed you up to the Elite Squad Keir Starmer has set up to police social media. I bet they are all over MN. Why wouldn't they be. There's been a lot less deletions of late so presumably they are just compiling a list of troublemakers. Don't worry...the list will be pretty long if he's counting SM posts of disgruntled women.

Oh look at that now.

The left eating itself. Always happens. They never learn but then squeal when their own policies are turned on them.

Policing and reporting each other.

What’s that old saying, ‘put two communists in a room and they’ll come out with three parties’.

Kendodd · 01/08/2025 15:33

Quirkswork · 01/08/2025 10:45

Yes no need for racism. As long as it's genuine racism and not just an attempt to use that slur to shut down genuine debate. Which has been used so often now I can see why people can no longer judge what is real racisim.

Incidentally racism aside (and not to be a twat) what do those on the left think about the policing of SM and the threat to free speech? Is it a non partisan issue? Is it a concern of the "British people" as a whole? Or just non Labour. Because I always thought we had free speech up until the pandemic and now I'm not so sure. And I think both sides of the political spectrum would have agreed with me.until now?.

Are you describing as a racist slur me saying that it's well know certain communities have a tradition of arranged cousin marriage?
That's a racist slur now?

Kendodd · 01/08/2025 15:34

PandoraSocks · 01/08/2025 10:37

I think you are being a bit disingenuous, Ken. There was a bit more to to your post than that. There was a racist slur about cousins which I don't believe Blair has ever said. That is why it was deleted.

I reported your post.

You need to email MN if you want your post reinstated, the @ doesn't go anywhere.

Eta: Yes of course I am a member of "Elite Squad Keir Starmer"🤣🤣🤣

Seriously, though, I am just sickened by the casual racism on MN lately. If you don't want to be deleted, don't post racism.

No..I said that whoever reported you for racisim was fine to report you if you were racist but not if you weren't.

What did you actually say re cousin marriage and we can see if it's racist. I can't remember and I think your post has been deleted.

Look. I can't repeat what you said, obviously. But if you had said for example a certain percentage of people marry first cousins etc.,there would be nothing wrong with that, because it is true. But that is not how you couched it.

Have you asked MNHQ to have another look and reinstate your post if they decide it is OK ?

It is pointless us arguing the toss over this, when your post has been deleted.

Not saying they are all low skilled workers but a fair number are… care home workers for example.

We desperately need care home workers. There's a massive shortage and a low retention rate.

Quirkswork · 01/08/2025 09:08

I don't think the issue is Brexit. The issue is that successive governments prefer to import cheap labour and non EU labour is cheaper than EU labour. We've just had the wrong governments. The right government would do the right thing about controlling immigration. Unfortunately we still have the wrong government.

Funny though that pre Brexit we had 2m to 4m EU citizens come here to do the jobs we wouldn't do... now almost none from EU, instead its from developing countries and until recently bought in parents, children etc.

Why? because anyone coming here usually has to pay in for visas and health ins and met certain criteria, an EU worker can now go to Germany Sweden etc and pay nothing other than taxes.

You'd have thought by now, people would understand this.....

Why is posting the truth "Racist" ?

https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2024-12-10/debates/6A325A71-434B-42FF-AC9F-FF8C6FD85B00/Marriage(ProhibitedDegreesOfRelationship)Bill

Certain diaspora communities have extremely high rates of first-cousin marriage, with a rate of 20% to 40% among Irish Travellers and higher rates still among the British Pakistani community

Its also not illegal....

So MNHQ are deleting a post for no other reason than you complained?

Aside, i've never known Ken to post anything remotely offensive, let alone Racist.

Cousin marriage is obviously bad for evolutionary reasons. That's scientifically true and therefore not racist. Education of groups that engage in it as to why it's a bad thing for their family's health is presumably the key.

Having said that, perhaps if someone used it as an insult perhaps that might be considered racist? I genuinely don't know these days, not being one to generally accuse other people of racism.

I suppose it would criminalise existing cousin marriage? Create a stigma. I don't know.

Treacletoots · 01/08/2025 16:18

How do you know they're low skilled and can't support themselves. What a ridiculous assumption Nigel.

How many immigrants does the NHS employ exactly? Absolutely tons.

Did you see the original post.

It was the way it was couched, which suggested all African and Asian people send for cousins to marry their children once settled in the UK.

I was also very surprised as I have not seen @kendodd ever post anything racist before. Maybe it was just clumsily worded.

Anyway. I am fed up of being badgered for reporting in good faith something I thought was racist.

MNHQ agreed with me and deleted it. So please take it up with them as I obviously can't reinstate said post.

PandoraSocks · 01/08/2025 16:31

@Easternstandard There is a bill floating around somewhere to ban first cousin marriages. It originated under the 10 minute rule and so not a government bill. I think it passed its first reading.

Bingo. Run out of anything useful to say, so call someone racist. Try harder.

why should I try harder, you see nothing wrong with what you’ve said that says enough, you keep waffling trying to get the last word like its a competition.

A one-off cousin marriage isn’t really much of a problem, it’s when it’s a recurring theme that really big problems arise.

For some societies were talking about repeated cousin marriages - the grandparents were cousins, the parents were cousins, the children and grandchildren will marry cousins...

Quite simple. If you incite violence or make racist remarks you get deleted or in trouble.

Try not being a bigot for a day you'll find nobody has aan issue with what you say.

Is your view that anyone who has their views suppressed is a bigot?

Is that only when people you like are doing the suppressing, or when the political winds shift do you just accept you‘re the bigot now?

Suppression of speech on SM has gone much wider than inciting violence or racism. To push the idea that it’s all fine because only bad people get suppressed and they of course deserve it is dangerous and complacent.
