New posters welcome. It would be helpful to read at least the four Observer items above before posting. There are currently 10 items on The Observer website The real Salt Path | The Observer

To all - Please be extremely cautious when it comes to naming or implicating people and addresses not in the public eye or with no direct connection to the story, and around the understandable health speculations, especially where details are unclear or still emerging. Please do not engage with visitors who seem to have their own agenda and seek to derail. Avoid @'ing and quoting them as - from experience - this will only encourage them back to the threads. We have done amazingly well together for ten very interesting, very serious and very silly threads so far. I can't be here as much as I'd like so all help with keeping our discussion walking along in a healthy and civil fashion is very welcome.

No saltiness. Keep to the path.

The free paninis have been replaced with pasties in this hilarious film adaptation.

I have been wondering who would be in my fantasy TSP parody film. So far:

Simon Armitage David Mitchell (keeping a very straight face)
Raynor Winn Jan Ravens
Various frothing locals Dawn French

I think I’m okay to post screenshots of the article, as it’s on a free-to-access public forum already (LinkedIn), but I’ve left out the author’s name.

This is so badly written it makes me feel unwell.

Some interesting observations from RW's instagram. Since yesterday, she's deleted 7 images. I've worked out what ones. 3 are understandable(ish). But the other 4 only make me wonder why, especially as they are from their original walk, posted in 2019 as part of National Walking Month. I'll list the deletions below.

  • TW standing on a wall with a caption saying near Porlock just after the "tortoise prophesy" (Note - this would be day 2 of their walk)
  • RW next to tent in the apple orchard where Grant let them stay.
  • RW next to tent on an as yet unidentified headland on SWCP with caption saying "another day, another headland. Just over half way on the SWCP."
  • A view out to sea from an unidentified headland (this photo was next after the one above but I don't have the caption for any clues as to why it would have been deleted)

Particularly intriguing...are there clues in these that suggest some kind of evidence?

Just to note, the other 3 images were:

  • The crowd at a book event at a church in either Fowey or Polruan. (I have no caption info to confirm but I recall it was one of these two places).
  • An old B&W photo of her grandmother? in a field as a young woman. The caption, from memory, was something about mother's rights and lack thereof in the 1920s.
  • An image of the Copsford book RW wrote a forward for.
DisappointedReader · 31/07/2025 13:05

Raynor Winn is an author that cares about and values the same things that I do

The above from the LinkedIn quote posted by a pp. Does this mean that we have another embezzler on our hands if she shares the same values? RW/SW didn't care about the Hemmings or value trust and honesty in her role as bookkeeper.

The B&W pic was of her mum who was born before the Guardianship of Infants Act 1925. Prior to then fathers could take the children in the event of a separation, but this new law enshrined doing what was best for the welfare of the child.

It was an International Women's Day post, and I think mentioned women in Nigeria in the present day.

Excellent work! 👏👏 Just out of interest, how can you tell when someone has deleted photos from their Instagram? Have you got a previous version of her profile saved for comparison, or are there other ways to tell?

especially as they are from their original walk

Or are they?

I said the other day that the orchard one could be anywhere at any time. I wonder if it could be identified as a particular orchard, maybe Bill Cole's orchard, if someone put their mind to investigating.

Toomuchstufff · 31/07/2025 13:15

I noticed that several of those national walking month photos appeared to have been deleted as there were gaps, and the tortoise one has now also gone.

re the tree with the tent under, it looked more like an oak than an apple tree to me.

Is that the picture that was discussed a while ago, because there were some boxes next to their backpacks and someone said this does not look like hiking luggage?

Oh yes! That was me. They looked like film/audio equipment boxes to me. Though they weren't fully clear as they were tucked behind the rucksacks.

Oh dear. RW fans may be without the shed of doubt, but the shed is a big one and there are many within it 😁

I do love the image of a Shed of Doubt.
In fact I love it so much that I asked ChatGPT to draw me one but it said it was busy. So I drew one instead. Apologies to anyone with actual drawing abilities.

Didn’t someone here say apple orchard pitch was unlikely & there were suitcases in the shot as well as the rucksacks?

I feel this is a young woman who's just overly trusting and a bit naive.

What's more puzzling is that Walker's agent, an experienced professional in her field, is liking such blog posts (it really isn't an article in any meaningful sense of the word).

If she's trusting and naive with a long career behind her, that's a bit more bewildering.

Yes, I just said similar. One of the boxes did look like that especially. Does that suggest a retrospective shot? Someone also suggested she had the same dress on as when she started out on walk or much earlier?

'Without any shed of a doubt'? Oh dear. Back to proofreading school for you, stalwart fan.

This just says 'any decent person knows they're innocent' which is so poor an argument as to not be worth our time. More worryingly for the agent, it looks as if she shared it because it's the best defence of theirs available 😬

FurryHappyKittens · 31/07/2025 13:27

I think Sally Walker might discover you can't delete these things even when you do!
