New posters welcome. It would be helpful to read at least the four Observer items above before posting. There are currently 10 items on The Observer website The real Salt Path | The Observer

To all - Please be extremely cautious when it comes to naming or implicating people and addresses not in the public eye or with no direct connection to the story, and around the understandable health speculations, especially where details are unclear or still emerging. Please do not engage with visitors who seem to have their own agenda and seek to derail. Avoid @'ing and quoting them as - from experience - this will only encourage them back to the threads. We have done amazingly well together for ten very interesting, very serious and very silly threads so far. I can't be here as much as I'd like so all help with keeping our discussion walking along in a healthy and civil fashion is very welcome.

No saltiness. Keep to the path.

That article is a load of sycophantic nonsense. There’s no substance to it; it’s just a mash up of ‘the world is full of horrid things, #bekind.’ And ‘salted in spirit’ 😂

quite simply, if RW isn’t able to make a proper rebuttal and state that she didn’t embezzle money, no amount of fawning fandom is going to change anything.

Haha what a strange coincidence!

I am surprised if he is keeping quiet! I know someone who, years ago, had a tiff with her coast-walking companion about Richard. She swore it was him/her friend swore it wasn't. They didn't know then that their second home is here. As fellow-authors, and living nearby, it is possible they know the Walkers well.

May I ask for the date of their support and a summary of it, please ...

It is interesting that you have mentioned Richard Madeley - I don't know if he has come up before on this - but I have been surprised he hasn't cropped up. They spend quite a lot of time down here - and he walks that part of the path every day...

Edited

Oh really. Have you ever met him? I have to confess I've had a not very secret crush on Richard for years now 😳. So the sooner the MN Salt Pathers and SA get walking that SWCP the better!

AlertCat · 31/07/2025 11:04

Thanks @Fandango52 . I have to say I agree with @crossedlines

i don’t often roll my eyes that far.

But it was a mistake...

Years ago I encountered Richard Madeley walking shirtless between Talland and Polperro!

I've already asked you to publish your memoirs!

Agreed. Yet her agent Jen Christie "liked" it. The mind boggles.

Cornflowerz55 · 31/07/2025 11:06

It is quite ironic that defenders of RW keep banging on about being kind and yet RW was anything but kind to/ about the Hemmings family, her fellow walkers, campsites, shops from whom she stole etc!

I don't think so, has to be my answer, but, in just the right location, I exchanged greetings with someone of similar looks but younger and not such a smoothie. I was quite confused - but he has got a son .....

A bit of the very last sentence got cut off the photo I posted - sorry. The full sentence is “She will walk this next path with her head held high, and those of us who have been salted in spirit, will be by her side every step of the way.” 🥴

Where's the vomit emoji when you need it ... What a pile of fan-girling tosh.

I suspect if you'd met The Madeley you'd know it!

And @Priorlake I hope you realise how lucky you are. Talk about living the dream.

Does "salted in spirit" mean you are salty, as in "annoyed or upset, especially when this is unreasonable"? (Cambridge Dictionary)
Because that is not how I would want to describe myself if I was her. Not saying it is wrong though...

Whatever it means, the author seems jolly pleased with herself for having coined it as she uses it at least three times in her micro-hagiography.

Did our friend who popped up on previous threads use "salted" a lot? I'm trying to remember but all their posts became a bit like white noise after a while.

That pretty much tells you all you need to do about the #BeKind brigade! I am being snarky, but I think my point still stands.

Hi everybody, I'm new on this thread of threads, but have read most of it.

Just wanted to announce that Angela Harding, illustrator of the SW books will be on This Natural Life today.
Since SW herself was on there just recently, I wonder if she will be mentioned at all.

But the BBC have already edited SW out of the announcement: on the original episode description in the screenshot posted by AH she is described as "the illustrator of books such as The Salt Path and Wilding", but now it is "the illustrator of books by Simon Armitage and Isabella Tree".
So Simon Armitage continues to haunt poor Raynor it seems 😁

Real kindness ( not just meaningless spoutings of kindness) means loyalty to your employer who has placed their entire trust in you, support of small businesses working tirelessly to make a living and compassion to your fellow walkers. Hmm 🤔

She just sounds young and naive. She's allowed her own opinion whether we agree or not. This may change once all the facts come out.

I think I’m okay to post screenshots of the article, as it’s on a free-to-access public forum already (LinkedIn), but I’ve left out the author’s name.

Let’s ignore all the evidence of embezzlement, then… A strange way to advertise your critical thinking skills on LinkedIn.
