New posters welcome. It would be helpful to read at least the four Observer items above before posting. There are currently 10 items on The Observer website The real Salt Path | The Observer

To all - Please be extremely cautious when it comes to naming or implicating people and addresses not in the public eye or with no direct connection to the story, and around the understandable health speculations, especially where details are unclear or still emerging. Please do not engage with visitors who seem to have their own agenda and seek to derail. Avoid @'ing and quoting them as - from experience - this will only encourage them back to the threads. We have done amazingly well together for ten very interesting, very serious and very silly threads so far. I can't be here as much as I'd like so all help with keeping our discussion walking along in a healthy and civil fashion is very welcome.

No saltiness. Keep to the path.

Just bought my copies of TWS and LL - looking forward to a stitch ‘n’ bitch-style virtual reading group with you all. Maybe our reading will uncover further inconsistencies?

What is particularly alarming is PRH and RW's agent are complicit in their silence (and their glib excuses). It seems to me they are simply riding the storm to sell as many more books as possible. This is perhaps not surprising as no one would want to admit getting it so wrong and they are businesses first. But it's alarming nonetheless. If I were an author (v unlikely!), I would seriously consider boycotting PRH and the agent as I would not want my work associated with their clear lack of action. OK, they didn't know, but now they do and yet, no word besides RW told us it was true. It's on her. Meanwhile, RW is still centre stage on her agent's and PRH's websites as if nothing has happened!

Well, Jen Christie (presumably) still represents her, so she’ll still be on her website and client list, and she’s still published by Michael Joseph. Even if they don’t publish any subsequent works by her, the three existing books are theirs, unless RW reacquires the rights to them and takes her backlist with her to a new publisher where she might make alterations or additions in a new edition..

Jen Christie's LinkedIn profile (Activity section) endorses a very poor article which supports TSP.

Dear God, that article is dire. The author seems very young and naive.

But if Walker's agent believes the guff in her released statement then I question the veracity of the 'astute' part of the agency's tagline.

FurryHappyKittens · 31/07/2025 00:33

Actually, the "article" is really just some random blogpost by a layperson.

Heaven knows why a professional agent is liking it on LinkedIn!

The author isn't a professional in the field of books or journalism or anything you might consider relevant, although expresses an interest in music journalism, so yes, I'd say they were a layperson just "blogging".

Could you point me at where the article is? I can’t follow the thread through to find it. Thanks :)

They might have contractual obligations not to harm the film?

But if I were JI, out of respect for the Hemmings (let alone self-respect), I would retract the comment made on national TV that "you can't say it but ai can: you were ripped off!"

He sounded like he'd grown very close to them and was certainly in touch with them when the film came out just before all this blew up, so he's possibly being told that it's all lies & mistakes were made and believes them, particularly if they tug on heartstrings by mentioning Moths health.

Won't be that long before we find out cause he and Gillian will have new stuff to promote soon and any interviewer worth their salt path will ask about it.

WyldMountainThyme · 31/07/2025 09:09

A site that I use quite often to search for second-hand books is bookfinder.com which collates books for sale from lots of different sellers including the big ones. They often locate copies of books that I can't find on other sites. You need to switch to the country and currency you need. For anyone who wants to read the books but doesn't want to fund the author or publisher there are plenty of s/h ones for sale at the moment eg. TSP at £2.89; TWS at £3.63; LL at £2.74, all inclusive of UK shipping.

If he’s asked about TSP in an interview where he’s promoting new stuff, he might just politely refuse to answer, saying it will distract from what he wants to currently promote. I’ve seen that done a lot of times in interviews with actors/musicians etc, and I think that wouldn’t be an unreasonable way of dealing with it.

Thanks for posting this. The repeated references in the article to being ‘salted in spirit’ really set my teeth on edge - tweeness of the highest order IMO, meant to tug at our heartstrings 😬

’Discredited journalist’ etc, very similar to a defender on this thread & everything Ray pointed out in her rebuttal too.

Uncanny isn't it? And a mention of "kindness of humanity." It reads as if they have
been indoctrinated. Not even a sprinkling of skepticism. Too invested in what they want to be the truth rather than accept the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I’m not on LI so I can’t read it, but I wonder who these mysterious online defenders are and why they’re not coming out in public?

I have a copy of LL coming from Vinted.

Unlike the anonymous Mumsnet poster, the person who posted the supportive article in LinkedIn is publicly identifiable. I wonder why they felt strongly enough about TSP so as to publicly post a blogpost in support of it.

I agree and any PR person worth their salt path will doubtless be briefing the interviewer not to ask about it. But someone like Richard Madeley off the top of my head is sure to ignore that and it would be interesting to observe the body language of GA or JI, just how uncomfortable or defensive the mention of this shambles makes them.

It is interesting that you have mentioned Richard Madeley - I don't know if he has come up before on this - but I have been surprised he hasn't cropped up. They spend quite a lot of time down here - and he walks that part of the path every day...

I think I’m okay to post screenshots of the article, as it’s on a free-to-access public forum already (LinkedIn), but I’ve left out the author’s name.

A bit of the very last sentence got cut off the photo I posted - sorry. The full sentence is “She will walk this next path with her head held high, and those of us who have been salted in spirit, will be by her side every step of the way.” 🥴

Priorlake · 31/07/2025 10:54

Years ago I encountered Richard Madeley walking shirtless between Talland and Polperro!

Oh dear. RW fans may be without the shed of doubt, but the shed is a big one and there are many within it 😁
