To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?

OK, so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ... But who the f**k thought that combination of baggy trousers, grey, black, long shorts, low heeled shoes, a bit of white here and there was The Look?

Are they trying make them look like men because women's football shouldn't be allowed? Did any of them have the opportunity to say "actually, those big, baggy trousers don't suit me"? Because they don't for a lot of them...

Completely appropriate attire for a relatively casual afternoon event in the summer, planned at the last minute to celebrate a sporting achievement.

Quite aside from the fact that quite a few of the team like to dress slightly androgynously, they would have looked absolutely ridiculous dressed in flounced floral dresses (this wasn’t a garden party) or love island bandana dresses. They all look healthy, comfortable, anthletic and smart. A lovely change and fab role models
for younger girls.

JHound · 29/07/2025 00:23

They are athletes and you are worried about their looks.

Jesus Christ.

Quite clearly the sponsors stuff. I have to say that was the last thing on my mind watching them make history as talented role models our country has in these modest young women. Criticising their clothes is something my mother would’ve done. Got to put them down somehow eh.

It isn’t putting the team down. The players will have had no say in what they were given to wear. They might have had a limited choice between black and sickly beige, but clearly blue, green, grey, yellow and red were completely off the cards.

It's no different from teams wearing clothing with corporate sponsorship logos emblazoned on them. Obviously no something they’d willingly choose to wear themselves, but part of a uniform when representing the team.

Criticising the clothes worn to Downing Street isn’t being critical of the players, it’s pointing out that they were failed by whoever agreed to the collaboration with M&S.

Well no, not their looks at all. Rather the really frumpy, unflattering outfits they have been forced to wear!

British design at its best? I bloody hope not!

Zanatdy · 29/07/2025 00:35

Nothing wrong with what they are wearing. Might not be their own personal choice but it’s clearly some type of tour kit and is perfectly fine for the circumstancesz

HeddaGarbled · 29/07/2025 00:38

@ BernieBarks

If it were the men's team do you think similar comments would be made

There was definitely one World Cup when they got ridiculed because they didn’t wear the traditional navy suits.

JustSawJohnny · 29/07/2025 00:40

YAAAAAWWWWWNNNNNNNN.

If they were men you wouldn't even think about what they're wearing.

And who TF even thinks to question baggy, beige tailored trousers?!!

Weird.

How did you manage to find so many problems with a happy photo celebrating England winning a championship?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/07/2025 00:54

I think they look nice. Very up to date too.

Not that it matters what they’re wearing.

Sorry, but I'm not goading, I'm just not understanding That Look ...

Well it's not for you.

DressOrSkirt · 29/07/2025 01:00

I really like what they wore. I was contemplating ordering the shorts but they are out of stock.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/07/2025 22:55

Must admit that I don’t know any young women below around 35 who would choose to wear M&S cheap polyester trousers tbh.

I am in my fifties and I wouldn't wear them either!

yoursweetpotatoesarebland · 29/07/2025 01:08

It’s definitely a lot of beige isn’t it …

Doopdoopdeedoo · 29/07/2025 01:09

I have to agree that the trousers in particular look bloody awful.

These are all young, fit women and the outfits don't do them.any justice at all!

But then, if they're M and S outfits then I'm not surprised. I don't think they attract many young women as their style in general is aimed at older women.

I never think to look at clothes there as, in my eyes, it's a shop for grannies!

goingtotown · 29/07/2025 01:18

The beige trousers look like cheap polyester.

Doopdoopdeedoo · 29/07/2025 01:21

I simple navy slim leg trouser suit with or without waistcoats would have looked really nice.

Those beige trousers look so over sized that they look like trousers a clown might wear!

AdaColeman · 29/07/2025 01:30

What I liked about that Downing Street photo was the way they had each put their own individual choice in to mixing up the items from the team uniform, so they gave the photo some spontaneity and a sense of fun.
They were still clearly a team, but they were also individuals. I thought it it was so much more interesting than having them dressed like a row of identically dressed air hostesses, which is so often the case with team photos.

The event itself seems to have been quite informal, meeting the Deputy Prime Minister, held in the garden of Number 10. So their clothes were appropriate for that setting.

I also liked that so many of them were wearing flat shoes, not teetering along in stilettos.

Oh here we go with the ageism.

Caerulea · 29/07/2025 02:19

What would you have liked? Some difficult to walk in heels? Cinched waists? Bit of of cleavage? Fancy updo's? Clingy trousers?

Clothing that emphasises their femininity?

Some flowers? Fluffy bunnies? Cuddly toys?

Heavy make-up? Dangling earrings

Things that women are expected to wear so the focus is on their femaleness detracting from their skill & the hard work it took to get there?

Maybe some vapid smiles & glazed, empty eyes?

Content for the creepy fuckers to post on their social media?

Clothes are just fabric, not gendered, just fabric for comfort

What, exactly do you think they should have been wearing?

PistachioTiramisuLimoncello · 29/07/2025 03:26

It’s fashion op.
Not sure why everyone keeps banging on about cabin crew…?

EatingHealthy · 29/07/2025 03:44

Come on op, even I, who is completely uninterested in fashion, know that big baggy trousers are currently the fashion (it seems practically impossible to get anything else in the shops). Just because you're behind the times doesn't mean they should be too.

Angelou79 · 29/07/2025 03:47

I loved the trousers, comfortable, practical & slightly sexy with the waistcoats. Not exactly sure about shorts but horses for courses live & let live!

ZippyStork · 29/07/2025 04:50

Congratulations to them!
But, I thought the same. Badly fitting and frumpy outfits.

Lilactimes · 29/07/2025 05:21

Yes but they won the Euros!!

Their outfits are secondary to this brilliant achievement ❤️ and not overly important .

They look fine.
