To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?

OK, so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ... But who the f**k thought that combination of baggy trousers, grey, black, long shorts, low heeled shoes, a bit of white here and there was The Look?

Are they trying make them look like men because women's football shouldn't be allowed? Did any of them have the opportunity to say "actually, those big, baggy trousers don't suit me"? Because they don't for a lot of them...

These outfits are part of their M&S sponsorship - you can buy your own version on the website.

No thanks!

RigIt · 29/07/2025 20:19

I agree with you OP. The outfits look rubbish. They look like a mishmash of people in business casual office wear. Not like they are the esteemed winners of an highly prized tournament. Such a shame a better uniform couldn’t have been offered to them after their amazing achievement. Nothing to do with their sex, I’d have said the same if a team of men had been dressed so shabbily. If anything, we should be asking why our women have been so shabbily and apparently thoughtlessly dressed. I’ve never seen the England men’s teams looking like that. Maybe that’s the place the sexism comments should be aimed at rather than at the OP who is raising a valid point.

DaisyDukesAuntie · 29/07/2025 20:20

It’s 2025. They can wear whatever the F they want. Hope that helps 😌

MILLS356 · 29/07/2025 20:22

Seriously?

and men get a bad rap when all you need is yet another judgemental woman!

You achieved anything great lately?

angela1952 · 29/07/2025 20:27

I also thought most of the outfits were awful, no criticism of the team, they’re the uniforms they were given. Absolutely the worst of M&S styling.

Edited

Good job you didn’t have to wear them then!

FortheloveofCheesus · 29/07/2025 20:33

Who gives a fuck what they are wearing

I am so proud of these women. My 8 year old son doesn't see "women footballers" when he watches them play. He sees...
Winners. Champions. He know all the players names, positions. He is growing up respecting our female athletes just the same as our male ones.

Women's matches weren't pro and certainly weren't televised when I was a kid. I love the difference today in just one generation and how we celebrate ALL the talent we have.

AzurePanda · 29/07/2025 20:33

@RigIttotally agree, although the men’s teams outfits haven’t always been to my taste they are a hell of a lot better than this effort, both in fit and design. Horrible publicity for M&S.

FortheloveofCheesus · 29/07/2025 20:37

Omg are you kidding? Back in the 90s they used to wear all sorts of utter shite. Don't you remember the white suits with the red & white striped ties?!!

DalstonsRhubarb · 29/07/2025 20:51

Who gives a fuck what they are wearing

I think we’d all agree if they had chosen their own outfits. People are criticising the tie-up with M&S that means the player are contractually obliged to appear in weird beige slacks.

carchi · 29/07/2025 19:31

They don't need to be fashion icons just to suit you. They are top athletes who are proud of their sporting achievements. Why can't you just accept their success and how inspirational they are to young girls instead of just looking at what they are wearing?

Totally agree they are top athletes, and they absolutely should be proud of their achievements. And they are inspirational for generations of young girls.

Female footballers have been short changed and disrespected by theFA and sponsors since forever. (Other women’s teams too),
Those uniforms are part of that disrespect.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 29/07/2025 21:21

Those uniforms are part of that disrespect

Only if they have an issue with them. If they liked them and were happy to wear them, then there’s no problem.

Onleemoi · 29/07/2025 21:37

Disrespect because a handful of MNers have taken issue with their outfits. It’s so irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Were they actually offered the choice to wear or not to wear?

Not the most exciting outfits, sure, but they look fine. What are they supposed to wear?

SomeOfTheTrouble · 29/07/2025 21:44

BasilParsley · 29/07/2025 21:41

Were they actually offered the choice to wear or not to wear?

No idea. All I’m saying is that they may well have liked their outfits, in which case why should anyone else have an issue with them? If it turns out they hated them then I agree it’s really shit, but we don’t actually have any indication of that at the moment.

Onleemoi · 29/07/2025 21:44

Who cares?! They’re just clothes. Pretty sure they’re not wanging on about wonky hems not being befitting of them.

Onleemoi · 29/07/2025 21:58

It's really weird. This is a weird thread.

The people in M+S whose job it was to get the clothes showcased care.

I care

The players will absolutely care, and their personal sponsors will care.

The deserved clothes that fitted them properly and there ought to have been dress makers there to do that for them.

Dutchhouse14 · 29/07/2025 22:20

I think what they CHOOSE to wear is completely irrelevant.
It's their sporting achievement that is being celebrated and the focus should be on that.
However if they have been TOLD to wear those clothes as a uniform /corporate sponsorship deal then really they should find a stylist and retailer who can do much better than that. They seem badly fitted, unflattering and bland.

Bringmeahigherlove · 29/07/2025 22:26

Bore off with the constant comparison to men and the male team. They’re female athletes who have been extremely successful. The waistcoat and trouser look is very much in at the moment, it doesn’t mean you have to race out and buy some.

TheShed7 · 29/07/2025 22:41

To be fair the outfits the men last wore to celebrate winning a major tournament look incredibly dated as well.

But then that was in 1966 so that's probably fair enough.

Onleemoi · 29/07/2025 22:43

And if they wore something the majority couldn’t afford, or something others deemed ott, or too casual and so on. Can’t win (off the pitch that is).
