To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?

OK, so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ... But who the f**k thought that combination of baggy trousers, grey, black, long shorts, low heeled shoes, a bit of white here and there was The Look?

Are they trying make them look like men because women's football shouldn't be allowed? Did any of them have the opportunity to say "actually, those big, baggy trousers don't suit me"? Because they don't for a lot of them...

These are ill-fitting and poorly made garments. Look at the uneven hems on the trousers.

They are baggy that is the style and as for uneven hems well she is walking/stepping so of course her trousers are going to be uneven and it might be a badly taken photograph or the way she is standing in the other photograph.

This - in SPADES

Indeed.

I'm also one who finds the OP'S comment "so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ..." somewhat loaded.

Why did you feel the need, OP, to make such a nasty comment about these women being given a reception at Downing St to honour their amazing achievement?

I think what you meant is they should be looking more "feminine: and wearing something that you feel reflects that

Oh, do you? I didn't realise we were in the presence of a mind reader.

Just my thoughts on what you meant if you didn't elaborate.

Our opinion on what they’re wearing is irrelevant. If it turns out that they were unhappy with the clothes then absolutely, a discussion should be had about the designs they were given to choose from. If they were happy with them, then there’s no issue.

I'd have thought that if they were deeply unhappy about the clothes then they would've refused to have worn them. What's the worst that would've happened in that case? It's not like M&S is going to take the trophy off them as punishment.

This is so disheartening that womens sporting achievements are being reduced down to clothes, judgement on low heeled shoes and mean comments about professional biscuit eaters.

If the team really were in charge of their outfits you think at least some of them might have chosen something with neat, even hems, correctly sized shoulders and properly finished seams, wouldn’t you?

Unless, of course, you think all the women on the team are totally incapable of dressing themselves.

I'm sure they're perfectly capable of dressing themselves. They can probably manage to put on their football boots, even if they have to tie up the laces themselves. I'd also hope they've got more important things to do than spend time criticizing other women for 'improperly finished seams'. FFS.

Exactly. Shock horror - someone's noticed they had 'improperly finished seams'. The world is coming to an end!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/07/2025 10:53

Both teams look like junior members of SLT at an Academy Trust Awayday. But at least the male team's clothing looks like it's been designed to fit them, rather than having run out of material after making the trousers and deciding that savings could be made by using offcuts for sleeves.

EviesHat · 29/07/2025 10:55

@Snorlaxo ”The women are athletes and not models so unlikely to care much about the fashion side of things.”

Really?!

Current & recent Lioness footballers fashion contracts:

  • Leah Williamson - Gucci, Calvin Klein
  • Chloe Kelly - Calvin Klein
  • Mary Earps - Victoria’s Secret
  • Alessia Russo - Gucci

Ok, so you have no idea how seams are meant to look.

HonoriaBulstrode · 28/07/2025 22:20

They are representing the country. They should look smart. Tailored navy trousers or tailored shorts would look better than baggy beige.

They represented their country, on the pitch, where it mattered. They don’t need to ‘look’ anything.

These just aren't bad outfits, these are bad M&S outfits.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2025 11:01

I completely agree OP
They should all be wearing stilettos, tight dresses, make up and look like Apprentice contestants
Put some effort in ladies, its all very well being good at a mans sport, you don't need to look like one
(Sarcasm Obvs)

@AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta ”I'd have thought that if they were deeply unhappy about the clothes then they would've refused to have worn them. What's the worst that would've happened in that case?”

Probably constitute breach of contract. England team has sponsorship deal with M&S, players sign contract agreeing to follow diktats of employer.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 29/07/2025 11:03

Well, the suits do look a bit cheap, polyester-y and shoddy to me tbh. Can't imagine the men's team rocking up in anything so JD Sports-like. Though doubtless they're expensive, designer, fashion forward, made in the UK etc.

Maybe it's a subtle message - "give us more funding!"?

Mistyglade · 29/07/2025 11:04

If you look at the clothes in the shops and what young people are currently wearing you’d see these are actually on trend. It’s not my style either but would I slag it off? No.

How condescending, How arrogant.

Coffeeishot · 29/07/2025 11:06

It is Marks and Spencers a high street shop it isn't supposed to be high fashion it is supposed to be relatable and affordable and comfortable.
