To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?

OK, so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ... But who the f**k thought that combination of baggy trousers, grey, black, long shorts, low heeled shoes, a bit of white here and there was The Look?

Are they trying make them look like men because women's football shouldn't be allowed? Did any of them have the opportunity to say "actually, those big, baggy trousers don't suit me"? Because they don't for a lot of them...

I thought it was great that they’d all chosen mix and match pieces and made Their own outfits while still looking like a team. Clever I thought.

And yes, I agree, you sound like some 1950s throw back op. And i Speak as a woman of mature years who likes to keep an eye on fashion and style.

Slightly better than the trenchcoats they made them wear three years ago but bottom line, the women have little choice in the matter.
Doubt they have any fucks to give, and nor should they, but my own DD wouldn't be seen dead in M+S clobber so it does look like raiding your mum's wardrobe.

And @BasilParsley would you like to comment on Angela Raylnor’s creased trousers. She should perhaps spend more time ironing and less time running the country. Tut! Women today eh? They’ll be giving them the vote next.

LittleBitofBread · 29/07/2025 10:09

Hmm, it's not really a great look. Much too old for them, and weirdly dated-looking.
They're all such vivid characters, so energetic, witty, and physically beautiful and athletic. I'd like to see them dressed to reflect that.

Coffeeishot · 29/07/2025 10:10

12 pages to read I had to Google the outfits , I love them they look fab if I was their age id be wearing clothes like that, infact when I was their age waistcoats and "dress" trousers were in fashion along with fitted jackets so I did wear them Do you not think these young women are pretty/feminine enough op should they be wearing something a bit more sparkly so we know they are women?

Male teams usually have a team casual outfit this is just the same and this team has been sponsored by a clothes shop so they are wearing their clothes.

FGS. Why do we always have to focus on what women are wearing (and what size they look)? It's totally unnecessary.

This thread does indeed focus on what they are wearing - it's literally the topic under discussion. There are lots and lots of threads focussing on all the other aspects of the women's team.

What would you like them to wear ?

I don't know, I'm not a designer or a stylist. But what I said in my post would basically be my brief to give to a designer or stylist.

They are wearing M&S clothes because that is their sponsor the clothes are part of a collection, it might not be to your taste but I think what you meant is they should be looking more "feminine: and wearing something that you feel reflects that .

WildCherryBlossom · 29/07/2025 10:17

I love that they had a mix and match selection that they could make their own while still looking like a team. Not personally a massive fan of the shapeless blazers but I thought the waistcoats looked great on everyone who wore one.

VioletandDill · 29/07/2025 10:18

If there is a single comment from anyone about what the boys wear should they ever win an international trophy, I will eat my hat.

Arraminta · 29/07/2025 10:20

I assumed the team prefers to look vaguely masculine/androgynous?

The shorts were every shade of wrong, though.

WFHforevermore · 29/07/2025 10:21

Its a female version of a mens suit. I actually quite like it. They have all put their own little spin on it.

And i think its refreshing.

They’d have to come out dressed in mini skirts for anyone to even bother…

mommatoone · 29/07/2025 10:24

@BasilParsley - totally agree with you. I thought the outfits were awful. I'm sure m&s could have come up with a better design for these young successful women!

Snorlaxo · 29/07/2025 10:24

Just because you wouldn’t have worn it, it doesn’t mean it’s ridiculous. Ime waistcoats and baggy trousers are everywhere with young women. Not convinced that they wear M&S but I’m going to assume that you live somewhere rural or something.

The women are athletes and not models so unlikely to care much about the fashion side of things. Maybe the majority picked beige because black is often associated with sad or super formal occasions and this was not? Gen z have stopped forcing themselves to wear heels like previous generations of women. Again, these women are European champions so not concerned about what someone looking at photos think.

You need to complain to M&S if you think that their designs are ridiculous or find the mens and women’s teams a more fashionable sponsor more to your liking. The collection is all black and beige. Do you have this reaction with the mens team collection ?

But clearly the team members who chose to wear the shorts, disagree with you.

There was a collection of clothing from which the Lionesses could choose. Some went for the black, fitted, chic look. Some went for the baggy trousers. A few went for the shorts. THEIR choice. Not everyone shares your taste.

Not much of that range would suit me, but I think they ask looked great on their own way. They each did their thing with style and confidence.

This is such an embarrassing thread. Mumsnet is viewed worldwide. Op is just playing into the misogynists' hands.
Yes, I get it, we should be able to discuss clothes etc but with people like Joey Barton and Andrew Tate as well as a mum and her two children being another victim of murder suicide this weekend, I think we should all consider the effects of what we're saying.

I'm not keen on this either, for basically the same reason: they're dressed a bit old for their age, and it doesn't really reflect their spirit, energy, beauty and athleticism. The colours are dreary and the fits are neither slim-fitting and chic nor properly oversized or interestingly structured.
It's an M&S problem, let's be honest.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 29/07/2025 10:34

Our opinion on what they’re wearing is irrelevant. If it turns out that they were unhappy with the clothes then absolutely, a discussion should be had about the designs they were given to choose from. If they were happy with them, then there’s no issue.
