Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 14:57

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

How are you coping with the break up OP? And how often do you drink a bottle of wine?

As a one off it's not the end of the world, but if you're upset about the break up and your drinking is creeping up and up then I think you need to be careful.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/07/2025 16:24

No, definitely not home measurements.
4 is my limit, before being absolutely pissed, wine is very strong alcohol.
Hope you feel better soon.

millymollymoomoo · 27/07/2025 16:26

I could drink that easy over the course of 6 hours.

i rarely do
I rarely drink more than a bottle of wine every few weeks
and dont have a drink problem nor do I need to seek help

just drink loads of water and take paracetamol

No. If I drank more than one bottle then I’d throw it back up. Not a chance I could keep two bottles down. I think it depends on BMI though. Bigger people can usually drink more.

How do the French manage? Many French people drink vast quantities of wine but according g to Mumsnet, they are all teeny tiny.

I was going to say that I admire the pp’s style: ‘I can’t drink that much because of my petite slim figure’. Top marks!

They didn't say that at all.

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 16:27

Thank you to all the people that made me feel better and being aware of how shit I feel. The people who made me feel worse, I hope you stand on a plug

DSDFury · 27/07/2025 16:27

No, I'd struggle to manage one. Not through any sort of puritanical health-obsessive sensibilities, but I just couldn't consume that amount.

Otoh, I could very easily manage a whole pizza and quite possibly a whole cake if I put my mind to it.

Maybe I am in the wrong place for this. I’m not an alcoholic (at least I don’t think I am)

But one bottle of wine to yourself in one go is normal?

If I drank two bottles of wine at any point in my life, I would be sick.

Me too! Too much booze makes me vom 😭

One bottle is definitely my limit and I will suffer for it the next day.

Dogaredabomb · 27/07/2025 16:28

It's easy to sip away as you're cooking and eating and just not really notice, wine goes down a bit too easily. Don't worry about it but don't do it again.

Catsandcannedbeans · 27/07/2025 16:28

I couldn’t do two bottles right now because I’m pregnant. Before, maybe I could, but I would be wayyy too hammered to make a roast. Two over six hours would be karaoke territory, and that’s horrible for all involved.

If it is a one off, that’s fine. Most people get carried away sometimes, especially if you were thirsty and not paying attention. If you were eating within that six hours (guessing you were because of the roast) it’s easy to not notice, especially if you were already drunk. Don’t make a habit of it though OP.

OSTMusTisNT · 27/07/2025 16:29

I'm totally blootered on one bottle so would like to commend you 😂.

Sharing one bottle with DH is the most I can manage nowadays. 😳

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/07/2025 16:29

Two bottles on your own for no real reason is a lot!

I might have been able to drink that when I was younger but wouldn’t have done it alone. Still now I could maybe drink a bit over one bottle at a social occasion over hours but I wouldn’t feel good the next (few) day(s).

Didn’t you notice when you opened the second bottle?

Yes I was fully aware I opened another bottle, I was just enjoying it so much at the time. I am
nit enjoying today though

Mumsnet is full of very temperate drinkers. Yes I could easily do two bottles over six hours during Sunday lunch and I wouldn’t even feel that drunk.

RisingSunn · 27/07/2025 16:31

I would be unconscious.

Twelftytwo · 27/07/2025 16:31

How big are you? Are you tall/heavy?
I physically couldn't do two. Very occasionally have done 1 full bottle and it didn't go well

Cucy · 27/07/2025 16:31

I’m s lightweight so I’d be absolutely gone!

Obviously it’s not great if you were looking after kids but what’s done is done and no harm done.

You we’re probably a lot more fun and relaxed than you have been in a while and so don’t worry about it.

It’s fine to drink but drinking too much or using as a way to cope is not good. So keep a close eye on your intake.

If you’ve got any friends and can get a baby sitter then go out for a few drinks.
Its much better to let your hair down and have fun when others are doing the same.

🤣🤣🤣. You really shouldn’t say that when I’ve got a full bladder!

I drink more than I should and not proud of that. But 2 bottles is a lot. I've never drunk that much. I think I'd treat that as a wake up call

And, as others have asked, but you haven't answered, what did your parents think of how you presented yesterday? Although that's a bit of a red herring. That much alcohol is bad for you even if you have developed a tolerance for it

Sunnymysunshine · 27/07/2025 16:32

I could drink 2 (or 1 and a half) over the day when im cooking, like at Xmas and Easter. Im having a bottle now after a busy day at work while cooking my Sunday dinner. Also after your update saying you've recently split from your partner, maybe you just needed to let go, don't feel bad about it, as long as you didn't text the ex!!x

No, thankfully didn’t message the ex, he is already with somebody new so that wouldn’t have gone down too well

OP-

Drinking 2 bottles of wine on a Saturday does not make you an alcoholic.

You were cooking, enjoying the wine, enjoying life and now you feel crap. It's fine.

You are not the first person to have done this and you won't be the last.

Drink the wine and be happy. Just balance your life with healthy habits, which I'm sure you do.

I do not judge you at all. Ignore anyone who does.

Bellyblueboy · 27/07/2025 16:34

Blottum · 27/07/2025 14:58

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

It’s a lot of alcohol but I. Rarely it doesn’t mean OP has a drinking problem. If it is part of wider pattern and this happens regularly then yes it’s a problem.

i have a friend with an alcohol problem. At its worst she was drinking two bottles a night. That was a serious problem.

this could be a one off.
