Please can you elaborate? How many dead people went on to commit more crimes? Please link to stats. I would be fascinated to see.

Hence why I spoke about the wider context, but you already know that.

novanova5 · 24/07/2025 23:52

@WhereIsMyJumper It scares me that you or anyone else requires persuasion regarding the righteousness of the death penalty and the decision to not allow these kinds of people to live. This shouldn't even be up for debate.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:53

SummerEve · 24/07/2025 23:51

And how does it being good enough for you change the outcome for Sara?

It doesn’t. But it makes me feel she has some sort of justice. To follow your logic, why lock these people up at all IF they can be rehabilitated instead?

Well, it is being debated. So either debate in good faith or carry on insulting people and see how far you get with it.
People have already made several very good points as to why it shouldn’t be legalised but rather than engaging in the discussion you’re just constantly calling people dim. It’s not a good look.

novanova5 · 24/07/2025 23:54

@SummerEve Yet, it was still dreadful

Look at the language you’re using. It makes YOU ‘feel’ like she has some sort of justice. Why should it matter how YOU personally feel about it, over the bigger picture of reducing violence in prisons?

Also, rehabilitation is carried out while people are locked up. For those that can be rehabilitated, anyway.

Kindly, you don’t seem to understand what justice means. I have already acknowledged that not everyone can be rehabilitated several posts ago.

We’re supposed to be a ‘civilised’ country. Of course it should be up for debate.

Or would you like to go the whole hog and start cutting off hands for stealing etc?

The fact it’s so emotionally loaded and contentious is exactly why debate and not knee-jerk reaction is necessary.

It bothered you so it had the desired effect.

So does killing them to be fair. It has the ultimate low risk of reoffending rate.

Quite.

@SummerEve sometimes wider context is not important. It's individual cases and people that count. I think it was Colin Pitchfork who raped and killed and then was freed. He shouldn't have been. It's much better for society to be rid of him. I care no more about rehabilitating him, than he does about the safety of women and girls.

Who doesn't already know that kidnapping young girls, raping them and killing them is bad and you shouldn't do it? "Oh sorry guvnor, I didn't realise". Rehabilitation my arse.

Semantics. An eye for an eye is what is needed in that case.

Wider context is always important. Nothing happens in isolation.

You cannot apply that (misquoted) logic selectively though

Legalising murder makes us as bad as them.

I'm sorry I just can't agree that legalising capital punishment makes us as bad as this sicko. He beat his baby to death then went out for a cig while doctors tried to save the baby boy's life.

Context is often another word for excuse. Child killers don’t deserve that. There is no excuse.

@SummerEve cool. What context does someone not realise that slamming their baby into the cot side is bad? No learning disabilities have been mentioned. He does look like a junkie and probably had a shit upbringing but so did lots of others who don't do this.
