The Daily HateMail doing what it does best, inciting outrage in its readers.

Yes, the crime was beyond dreadful.

No, the death penalty should not be reinstated.

Here’s a Guardian link, for anyone who thinks if it’s reported in the Daily Mail it cannot possibly be true:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jul/24/man-guilty-murder-two-week-old-son-somerset-baby-unit

Just read the article. Horrid, horrid human however how on earth did he get away with causing such severe injuries inside a special care unit? Where were the staff? Also, he clearly was a danger to the baby beforehand when he removed the nasal tube so why on earth staff allowed him back. No wonder the entire unit has been closed down. The standard of care is abysmal so abysmal that you can torture a baby (he had so many injuries) and no one would notice. Staff need to be struck off.

@SummerEve sometimes wider context is not important. It's individual cases and people that count. I think it was Colin Pitchfork who raped and killed and then was freed. He shouldn't have been. It's much better for society to be rid of him. I care no more about rehabilitating him, than he does about the safety of women and girls.

Who doesn't already know that kidnapping young girls, raping them and killing them is bad and you shouldn't do it? "Oh sorry guvnor, I didn't realise". Rehabilitation my arse.

This is where I'm torn. I've explained my concerns should we have a DP. Yet, these situations I believe happen too often. I'd prefer these beasts to be removed from circulation, e.g dead.

There's no reliable way of trusting any single system that we have though. That's the Police ( probably a fair few rapists, wife batterers, sociopaths), same for the medical profession and on and on.

We can't hand over full trust over life and death to any body with power.

SummerEve · 25/07/2025 00:06

Robin67 · 25/07/2025 00:03

@SummerEve cool. What context does someone not realise that slamming their baby into the cot side is bad? No learning disabilities have been mentioned. He does look like a junkie and probably had a shit upbringing but so did lots of others who don't do this.

I don’t disagree with any of this.

You do realise that personal attacks are a breach of the talk guidelines?

It is a horrible story. Perhaps you should use your intelligence to consider just how we end up with people who commit these crimes in our society?

This.

The Times, BBC and Guardian also reported it.

I believe it's the crime itself that is inciting outrage in most normal people.

From hearing the news about this vile creature I personally think that spending his time with the inmates at HMP will get him sorted and regret the bloody horrific injuries he caused to an innocent baby.

Absolutely

novanova5 · 25/07/2025 00:09

@ilovesooty Telling someone that they are beyond hope is not considered a personal attack then? It appears rather one sided, doesn't it?

Additionally, could you kindly refrain from being the teacher's pet!

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:01

Fair post. I just feel so upset by this story.

You’re not being unreasonable to be upset by the story, it’s absolutely horrible. But killing him after the fact won’t stop a single other murder from happening, and it might even encourage more. There’s some evidence from the US that making harsher sentences for sexual violence resulted in more murders.

I’d have had the exact same thought whichever newspaper I read it in. The Guardian report is equally as horrific as the Daily Mail’s - not surprising since it’s a horrific crime.

OP posts:

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Hilarious. You reported me simply because I disagree with your viewpoint.

Robin67 · 25/07/2025 00:13

I understand what you are saying @JoyDivision79 . But modern technology means it doesn't have to be that way. We have metadata on phones, GPS on cars, CCTV, ring doorbells and dash cams, DNA evidence.

The problem is the lack of reliable control of information. There are people in the USA who are convicted, another person confesses and is then convicted, and the original conviction is not overturned as no one realises. A good country wide IT system with AI that actively searches and filters things can help.

Also I don't believe that the police should decide who is referred to be prosecuted and what evidence the CPS should get. There should be oversight, again independent people and AI, and all evidence should be forwarded. IANAL or police and I apologise if I have misunderstood any of the legal process.

So have I. I imagine MNHQ will pick it up in the morning.

You can NEVER justify bringing it back.

If the Birmingham Six were not enough then several other examples are available.

At least there is some justice sometimes - but it still doesn’t come close to what their victims suffered.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/03/sara-sharif-father-police-investigate-after-reports-of-prison-attack

That’s not justice

As soon as I saw the title to your thread, I knew what this was about. I stupidly read the article earlier whilst waiting on maternity ward for bloods, had tears rolling down my face. I’m 33 weeks pregnant with my second child and I just cannot fathom how you’d ever hurt a child at all. I hope he is tortured every single day of his sad, pathetic life in that prison.

(My Mum is good friends with somebody who was high up in the prison service, retired last year. The guards let these things happen when it comes to children, turn a blind eye so I’m holding out hope that they’ll get him!)

Oh it that on the post? You'd need to go to The Nightwatch forum at this time.

I've seen several person attack posts.

Fucks sake ‘the guards’??

you mean prison officers. In all my years of service I have never ever known any officer let anything deliberately happen…. You would have a very hard time explaining it if you did and you’d be out on your ear!

No, we are standing up for justice - you are standing up for increased murder and reduced punishment of the guilty. Shame on you, frankly.
