Vaping is EVERYWHERE

So the kids are off on summer holidays and I am trying to find nice activities to do. Went to the cinema yesterday, and a father with her young daughter, just gets out his vape and has a puff right in front of me while we were waiting to go in.

Then today at a play centre, Im sat in the cafe and a mother gets out her vape and surreptitiously has some of the vape and the oncoming plume of smoke...in my bloody direction.

I've been in Tesco, and someone just used it casually as you like. When I mentioned it to staff, they just shrugged their shoulders....I didn't see it.

Its bad enough people inflicting others with their noisy phones, but why oh why do people do this?!! In areas where kids are playing???? I dont care that you are addicted...that is not my problem!! People who smoke are addicted and would never dream of lighting up a cig!!!

Rant over.....

You were making a comparison, oh l’m sorry just pointing out, that we all breathe in what’s been in other peoples lungs, so as far as your concerned why should people have concerns over vaping.Again, a ridiculous comparison.l’m quite aware we don’t and expect to live in a sterile bubble.
If you want to vape, just vape outside, is that so difficult.

I don't vape or smoke and never have if you did in fact bother to read anything I wrote over several posts now.

I wasn't making any comparisons at all, ridiculous or otherwise. You are though. Anyway, clearly you aren't going to listen to anything and are determined to see what isn't there. Crack on and enjoy yourself.

Mehmeh22 · 23/07/2025 16:43

It absolutely does create a plume of smoke. I watched the woman in the cafe create that in front of my eyes!

It creates vapour, not steam or smoke, plume or otherwise.

If you want to kill yourself slowly with all that sh*te, all power to you. Why inflict others though?

I certainly dont want my kids breathing it in while sat in a cafe, when they have no choice and no full understanding.

You're right, it may not be illegal but I'll certainly back any law change to make sure it is.

This all boils down to the lack of consideration for others.

All of this is untrue. There is no risk to you or anyone else.

You dislike being told that you have no reason to scold people. Because it shows up the true motive: you just like bossing people around.

Totally not unreasonable. A young woman blew vape in my direction as we were going into the tube recently. I said (to my son) “that’s disgusting.” Sweet pungent cherry gloop. She turned round and told me I was disgusting. I’m happy to challenge within reason, grumpy old woman that I am. But staff don’t seem to care.

Sadly staff aren't there to police the behaviour of other adults, they're not police or security and therefore it's not their job to challenge and confront and contend with the potential agro of that.

I smoked for 40 years until a year ago. I loved it and will miss it until the day I die. Nicotine is so so addictive but there’s no way on earth I was going to stop smoking to vape. I loved everything about smoking, the ritual of rolling, early mornings in the garden with cup of tea, joining other smokers outside in pubs. Vaping just looks so silly to me ( I guess in the same way smoking looks to non smokers). Even I as a hardened smoker can see that if chemicals are being inhaled into lungs there will be lung consequences. I don’t like the smell of vapes but no big deal, it doesn’t effect me, it just sort of wafts over and then it’s gone. There’s lots in life I don’t like other people doing but can’t get worked up about it as there’s lots worse out there

Yes, quite used to avoiding them in food. The added problem
of them being in the air is not welcome. It’s dangerous.

people being dismissive of allergies makes them more dangerous. If people thought about their actions it would be easier to leave the house.

Are you allergic to specific VOCs or just all of them? There are thousands used in vapes and a huge number are nature identical. You must have to avoid pretty much all fruit and veg! They'll be in the air whenever you can smell food.

Peanut allergy, like most allergies, is caused by a sensitivity to specific proteins, rather than VOCs. You can rest assured that there are no proteins in vapes.

Well done congratulations.
Nicotine addiction is extremely difficult to break.

Congratulations 🎊 👏

I see these vapes as pacifiers. Sane as constantly sucking water from large cups or slurping coffee continuously. We are trying to self soothe as life is shit. I don’t like vaping. Don’t like the smell and pity the people I see doing it. I do see it as a sign of weakness which I’m sure is an unpopular opinion.

Edited

Judgemental much??
You have no idea what's going on in someone's life that they need to find some form of self soothing to cope with it.
Everyone has their weaknesses, apart from you obviously...

Andoutcomethewolves · 24/07/2025 11:59

I should probably name change for this but I dont actually care as I have morals. When I was a lawyer for BAT it was universally acknowledged within the company that there were health risks. It's the reason I left the job after 3 months

Disturbia81 · 24/07/2025 12:13

I can’t get wound up about it, it’s so much better than smoke and actually smells nice

PencilsInSpace · 24/07/2025 12:13

Of course there are health risks. For the vaper they're a tiny fraction of the risks of smoking. The risk to other people is immeasurably small.

MastieMum · 24/07/2025 12:22

I'm allergic to a chemical that's found in some vapes. Not all. But by looking at you vaping, I can't tell whether I'll have a reaction to your particular vape or not. My immunology consultant has told me about increasing numbers of young people coming to her clinic with vape related allergies. I have challenged people a couple of times when they are surreptitiously vaping in restaurants, but people refuse to believe that someone can be allergic to a component of vape "smoke" and can respond aggressively, so now I take the fastest route out of the building to protect my own health. Lots of places are now no go areas for me as a result.

What is it that you’re allergic to? And is it unique to (some, apparently) vapes?

It’s curious that nobody ever seemed to be allergic to cigarette smoke. Stinky, tarry, objectionable and health-damaging in so many ways, but I don’t recall allergy ever being an objection.

FastFood · 24/07/2025 13:20

Mehmeh22 · 23/07/2025 14:38

Its the fact they have it in their hand all the time. One time, I went for a meal in a pub and a woman was told to put it away because she kept using it.....then had the audacity to look pissed off! Lol.

I genuinely don't think this issue is as bad in other countries!

In France we had our PM vaping in the Parliament or Conseil des Ministres or something like that 😂

What? Have you never heard of asthma? What planet have you been on? Smoking has been banned in loads of places due to allergies for years. And lots of complaints. Give me strength. 😂😂

She should be submitting yellow cards then. There have only been 58 cases of suspected allergic reaction reported since 2011.

Asthma isn’t an allergy. Or at least not one as it would be understood as an atypical reaction to an otherwise tolerated common substance.

Of course asthmatics suffered from cigarette smoke, but that’s why I said it was “health damaging in so many ways”. Lots of people found their breathing impaired in smoky places; they didn’t need to be asthmatic, let alone allergic.

I just find the new-found allergies to vaping all rather unlikely.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 24/07/2025 15:02

@marmite2025 it isn’t the main point for everyone. Other people shouldn’t suffer the actions of those who vape, by breathing it in themselves.

But nobody “suffers”. Opposition to vaping is a social objection, not a medical one.

Personally, I think the social objection is an example of unpleasant, Hyacinth Bucket-style bossiness. But each to their own.

It really is
I was standing quietly off a pavement in a set back grassed area, vaping
a woman walked off the pavement so close she stood on my foot and then tutted at me for vaping. If she had carried on the path she would have been about 8ft away!

Rallentanda · 24/07/2025 15:51

There's something really undignified about vaping. It looks like a toy, somehow.

But I remember the days where many people smoked, where you were sat in a restaurant and there was smoke drifting across. On top of the bus, just everywhere. That was utterly rank. So I don't mind vaping so much, except that it looks daft.

What have you been smoking? Lol I haven't "scolded" anyone?! I just looked on in disbelief that they would have the audacity to do that.

And you have absolutely no idea if the chemicals my children have to breathe in are toxic or not.

They used to prescribe cigarettes to pregnant women back in the day, and look what happened there.

So forgive me for not believing your opinion! Lol

While we don't know everything about vaping, we really do know quite a lot by now.

You have no evidence to justify your wish to boss people around. Just admit it.
