Vaping is EVERYWHERE

So the kids are off on summer holidays and I am trying to find nice activities to do. Went to the cinema yesterday, and a father with her young daughter, just gets out his vape and has a puff right in front of me while we were waiting to go in.

Then today at a play centre, Im sat in the cafe and a mother gets out her vape and surreptitiously has some of the vape and the oncoming plume of smoke...in my bloody direction.

I've been in Tesco, and someone just used it casually as you like. When I mentioned it to staff, they just shrugged their shoulders....I didn't see it.

Its bad enough people inflicting others with their noisy phones, but why oh why do people do this?!! In areas where kids are playing???? I dont care that you are addicted...that is not my problem!! People who smoke are addicted and would never dream of lighting up a cig!!!

Rant over.....

Vapes create a cloud of water vapour, which may or may not be strongly scented. You may find the sweet smell unpleasant but it's really not harmful when breathed in second hand.
I'm not a vaper myself and would prefer if people didn't do it in public spaces indoors, but this scaremongering is ridiculous.
As for the fact that it has been in someone else's lungs...so has all the rest of the air around us!

Do you think the liquid they use is flavoured water ? Genuine question im not trying to be obtuse .

Coffeeishot · 23/07/2025 16:58

And it is just antisocial to vape near people step to the side or in a corner if you want to vape.

springintoaction321 · 23/07/2025 17:01

Meh

frecklejuice · 23/07/2025 17:03

I posted on here a while ago about catching my teen vaping and grounding him but was basically told I was overreacting and to leave him to it!

Its disgusting and people seem to think that vaping isn’t a big deal because they smell like cherry or blueberry which apparently makes it less antisocial 🤷‍♀️

Andoutcomethewolves · 23/07/2025 17:04

I hate it. I worked for a time at a very big tobacco/vape company in the vape division and it was encouraged (as they wanted to normalise vaping at work). Sitting in a work meeting surrounded by blueberry or cherry stench was grim

LouH1981 · 23/07/2025 17:06

They’re gross. They absolutely stink and I really don’t want to inhale second hand steam out of people’s mouths 🤮

I vape but I’d never dream of doing it in the places mentioned in the OP. I do it outside before I go in/when I leave but the people described in the OP are just selfish pricks. I definitely wouldn’t blow the vapour in someone’s direction intentionally (occasionally people have walked into to when they’ve come from behind me)

I can assure you not all of us are like them.

Cornettoninja · 23/07/2025 17:08

Whilst I am a vaper and do adhere to the same rules as smoking I do find the rhetoric around passively inhaling vape steam somewhat hysterical.

do the same people get their knickers in twist over bbq smoke? Proven to be carcinogenic as is chargrilled/burnt food. I’m surrounded by neighbours who seem to cook every meal outside in the summer - can I go tell them off for polluting my precious outdoor air?

The world is full of potentially dangerous pollutants, putting aside those who insist on vaping indoors, getting all sniffy about vaping outside is just nonsense.

daffodilandtulip · 23/07/2025 17:09

Mehmeh22 · 23/07/2025 14:38

Its the fact they have it in their hand all the time. One time, I went for a meal in a pub and a woman was told to put it away because she kept using it.....then had the audacity to look pissed off! Lol.

I genuinely don't think this issue is as bad in other countries!

I just think that's because smoking is still widespread. I've just been to Greece and it was disgusting on the beach, in the town, by the pool - constant smell of smoke.

Agree about the use of vapes here though. Next door is forever filling my conservatory with bloody raspberry smoke.

Jordan North did a documentary on them (might still be on iPlayer) which essentially confirmed that they are very much not just flavoured water. If I remember correctly he quit vaping as a result of what he found out and the danger they pose.
It’s the inconsideration for me. Why I should be forced to breathe it in just because someone else has chosen to be reckless with their health.

You’re likely constantly inhaling air that has just been through somebody else’s entire respiratory system and is carrying some sort of moisture from their body. The smell is possibly valid but it’s a fact of life if you go where other people are.

SingingSands · 23/07/2025 17:12

It really is everywhere now - I've seen people vaping on trains and planes recently. Worst though was sitting next to a Partner at work and he was taking sneaky vapes at his desk. I was on the desk next to him and saw him so I knew exactly what he was doing, but felt I couldn't call him out (throwing in abuse of power to the mix as well, great eh?!).

marmite2025 · 23/07/2025 17:13

LeaderBee · 23/07/2025 16:47

I have seen so many people on dating apps that say they dont smoke (ive even filtered smokers out where i can) yet there's multiple pictures of them puffing on a vape.

Its almost as if they've been brainwashed into thinking its not even close to smoking but I see it as exactly the same thing.

It’s not the same thing. There is no smoke, and no tar and someone who has quit cigarettes and vapes is a non smoker (caveat I would say I vaped on a dating site) but for NHS/stop smoking I’m a non smoker

if people keep insisting it’s the same thing then people who quit smoking to vape start thinking fuck it, I may as well smoke again. There’s even advice about vapers not being forced to stand with smokers at work - I don’t want to stand in the smoking area and be exposed to it now as I don’t smoke

Anti vape thread. Must be Tuesday.

Do you agree, that it’s ok to vape anywhere?
I was in hospital few months ago, a woman, puffing away continuously, whilst other patients eating their dinner, staff didn’t say anything.I just said, do you mind not vaping next to me.
It’s out of control this was inside a hospital!

Coffeeishot · 23/07/2025 17:19

Some vapers have never smoked just straight to vaping especially teenagers. My.neighbours teen son has been vaping since he was 14 he is now 18 and bought the biggest vape it is like a steam train so not every one is in danger of turning back to cigarettes.

OneKhakiFish · 23/07/2025 17:26

I don't really care if people vape it's their life but I would remove myself from anyone doing it. It definitely isn't healthy, one time i got on a tram in Birmingham I didn't realise I'd inhaled smoke from someone's vape on the platform. I coughed until I got to my stop. I didn't even buy a ticket, no conductor came near.

HangingOver · 23/07/2025 17:31

It's not water vapour it's aerosol

marmite2025 · 23/07/2025 17:36

HangingOver · 23/07/2025 17:31

It's not water vapour it's aerosol

It’s not, because it’s not pressurised or released by a propellant gas

it’s similar to dry ice. The coil heats up the liquid, which produces the vapour

Coffeeishot · 23/07/2025 17:36

I also couldn't care less if people vape i.just wish some vapours would be a bit more considerate.

Justlikethis1 · 23/07/2025 17:38

I vape, I started about 8 years ago when I was trying to stop smoking. Im finding it much, much more difficult to stop vaping than the times I managed to stop smoking. I can't even get past day two with the vape. I hate it and I hate myself for not having more willpower. I never vape around other people though. Never smoked around others either. It's so rude.

CitizenZ · 23/07/2025 17:40

God this subject is so boring now. Give it a rest!

StresHed · 23/07/2025 17:41

I don’t vape anymore and I think I notice it a lot more now. It really is everywhere and it’s more addictive than smoking as it’s so cheap and easy to do
it’s not as common in Europe thats correct. When I vape it was not easy to find them in Europe like it is the UK. More people seem to smoke in Europe tho

StresHed · 23/07/2025 17:44

And no they aren’t flavoured water I think it’s basically inhaling different types of plastics?

tourdefrance · 23/07/2025 17:49

The UK has the lowest rate of smoking in Europe which is great but that means the tobacco companies have an incentive to push vaping. I feel the government has been caught out by this and not regulated in properly. Its still addictive, contains nicotine and has nasty consequences but they have been allowed to market it to teenagers.

marmite2025 · 23/07/2025 17:50

StresHed · 23/07/2025 17:44

It really depends on the vape and if you’re buying legal ones or liquid etc

mine is in front of me and it’s got PG, VG, natural flavourings and that’s it, I add it to a glass tank with a metal coil

there was a big thing in America when people got really sick as they were vaping stuff with vitamin E in I seem to remember. There’s also no popcorn lung as that flavouring has been banned here for years
