Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

For fuck sake. The nastiness on here is unrel

I am happy with my weight.

However i knew that poster was asking me my weight, specificlly to be nasty to me.

If i wasnt fat enough, she would have sneered at me about that, that i was faking being fat. If i was too fat she would have said that i was glorifying being fat

So no i dont have to answer a question that is going to lead to abuse, from an already unkind poster.

I’m not sure why you put this post up! Your reactions show subconsciously you are not happy with your weight otherwise you would not be efging snd hedging at everyone!

Deluded in what way. Please explain. Do you think that no one can be fat and happy. Why is that?

No, I don’t think anyone who is fat is happy being fat. They may be happy generally but not happy just to be fat. You aren’t happy or you wouldn’t be considering losing weight in September. Everyone knows the implications to health and people usually get fatter as they age too, causing more issues. I’ve been ‘overweight’ according to the NHS BMI calculator and was miserable. My knees hurt and I felt heavy and cumbersome. 3 stone off and I look and feel great. I would never want to put that weight back on.

My health has been great while being fat. I go out for a run every second day.

I’m about ten stone and can’t run for shit, so good for you.

ScruffyTrouserMindFlip · 22/07/2025 20:07

Glad you are enjoying life OP.

I would say though, having gotten pretty fat in recent years, I think the body likes gaining weight, rather than actually being fat. As in, your body goes "Carbs?! Sugar?? Hooray! Gain that weight!! We'll survive the winter!!" And pumps out a load of reward hormones. Once your actually just sustaining weight though, even at a fatter level, your body doesn't pump out the reward hormones (unless you carry on getting more and more obese). So you're just overweight, with all the associated niggles, and no lovely chemical cheering you up.

If you really let yourself go too (stones, not lbs), you don't snap back properly either, I'm discovering. I'm all sags and wrinkles as it comes off again 🫤

AngelicKaty · 22/07/2025 20:07

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 18:45

Because i am happy.

And i also dont think the bmi calculators are that accurate either.

It told my friend that she is obese, and she is a size 14

YANBU to be content with how you look OP, if you're genuinely happy, but what about your health and strength? (Now, and as you age.)
I'm also a size 14, but because I'm only 5' 3.5" I have a BMI of 30.4 which makes me obese (30 and above) - I accept the reality of this, but I'm not happy about it. However, nor do I want to be thin - I'd actually be perfectly happy if I could get my BMI into the upper 20s (which would still be overweight, but not obese) and I would only have to lose half a stone to achieve this, but I'm struggling with my motivation right now.
It's accepted by the medical profession that BMI is just one measure of a healthy weight and that it isn't the best measure in all circumstances e.g. rugby players will likely come out as obese when they simply have great muscle mass (muscle is heavier than fat).
These days medics are more interested in your waist measurement as an indicator of good health. A healthy waist circumference for women is generally considered to be less than 31.5 inches. A waist measurement of 31.5 to 34.6 inches is considered high risk, and greater than 34.6 inches is considered very high risk for health issues. These measurements are indicators of abdominal fat, which is associated with increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other health problems. My DSis, who is only a few years older than me, is now type 2 diabetic and I really don't want to be in the same position.
You may be happy with being fat now OP if you have no health problems, but being overweight does increase your risk of disease, especially as you get older, so there will come a time when you have to face the reality of the impact being obese takes on your health.

soupyspoon · 22/07/2025 20:08

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 20:03

I havent had a single illness since being overweight. I dont have diabetes. I have had my heart and blood pressure checked recently. Everything looks great.

That hasnt really got anything to do with what I said. People would quite rightly shut down someone showing off or treating as a laugh that they're a smoker, drinker, drug taker whatever but for some reason when talking about being obese, which is much harder to manage and recover from than those conditions in my view.

And as for your comment, I wonder why doctors dont prescribe obesity then to keep the population healthy, you're onto a winner there.

ScholesPanda · 22/07/2025 20:09

Being fat and happy is clearly very triggering for some MN'etters

I am looking to lose a stone, I’ll still be fat at that weight according to the bmi calculation for my ethnicity but tbh I look great at that weight and I feel good at that weight too. Even though i would technically be fat.

I don’t buy the idea that you must feel like shit if you are fat tbh. I do think there are reasonable health considerations to take into account but losing weight and keeping it off is extremely difficult for a lot of people. Focusing on feeling good and wellbeing are also important. Theres a difference between exercising and not depriving yourself much and lying on the sofa snaffling macdonalds.

Sgreenpy · 22/07/2025 20:11

I think if you can walk up a few flights of stairs, run for a bus, do all the physical things that you need to do. Are happy with how you look and fitting in clothes you've got then crack on!
X

doodleschnoodle · 22/07/2025 20:12

I guess it’s personal. I felt awful at 32 BMI. Fat, knackered, I ached when I got out of bed, I found normal life activity tired, I was sedentary because it was hard work hauling 14 stone on a 5ft 4 frame, I got ill a lot, my diet was shit, I dreaded having to buy clothes or dress up to go places and would usually cry every time I had a night out at what I saw in the mirror. I did pretend to myself for a while that I was fat and happy and it didn’t matter but I wasn’t, it was shit.

I am 21 BMI now, I feel fantastic. I am active, fit, my diet is really good, I no longer ache, I am almost never ill, I love buying and wearing clothes and feel good about myself. I think the vast majority of fat people would rather not be fat because it’s not as nice as not being fat.

But that’s just my experience.

I would say that when you are in the obese bracket, even if you do feel good it’s likely a lot of damage is being done to your body for the longer term.

HansHolbein · 22/07/2025 20:13

Welcome back, OP.

DiscoBob · 22/07/2025 20:15

Morgenrot25 · 22/07/2025 19:38

That's ok.
There are lots of 'sugar free' diet gimmicks and 'influencers' - they say silly things like 'I only eat fruit and veg, no sugar'. 🤔

Edited

Yeah, it's annoying. My mate is a very sensible, un-gimmicky, down to earth lesbian of around 65. Definitely not the 'influencer' type!

dottiedodah · 22/07/2025 20:17

Sunnysidedeepdown .I walk the dog each day and eat 5 fruit an veg also. Don't drink Alcohol at all have never smoked. Still need a nap most days! Bryony is not a typical example I know.however the diet industry and esp Ozempic etc is making a lot of money from people desire to be a certain shape. God forbid if you were on a diet and had cancer you need every scrap of strength to fight back !

AlertCat · 22/07/2025 20:18

I think everyone has a comfortable weight where they feel well, that is easy for them to maintain while eating well, and which allows them to do the things they want to do. For some people this will be quite slender and for others, bigger. I think you can tell people who are not at their best weight, they might look out of proportion, or feel tired/cold/weak, or breathless or whatever. I recently lost a bit and feel almost myself again. But I’m not doing a diet, I am trying to eat reasonable portions of healthy, unprocessed food. Good for you OP to be happy and healthy in your body.

(Also a bit confused. Surely a size 14 is a size 14 whether you’re 5’10 or 5’0? How does height make a size 14 either really obese or absolutely fine?)

Outside9 · 22/07/2025 20:20

In reality it's because on some conscious level you given up ambitions of maintaining a healthy weight.

Ozempic dispensed of this fat pride notion.

If any fat person could press a button that would make them slim, they would.

DiscoBob · 22/07/2025 20:24

everythingsnotmadeofgold · 22/07/2025 19:20

She must be eating enormous portions of fruit, veg and meat. Fair play to her on the no sugar, I don't think I could ever do that.

She eats fruit, drinks alcohol free lager, eats hearty meals. She doesn't really look flabby, more big and kind of muscular.
I am impressed she can forgo added sugar fully. But you get un-used to the taste and fruit even tastes super sweet I think.

I do think people's build plays a part as I've a friend who's very skinny but seems to eat quite a lot, and always be hungry.

I don't eat much but if I did I'd put on weight really quickly round my belly and face.

101trees · 22/07/2025 20:24

I've been overly thin and was freezing cold and tired all the time.

I got that way through doing lots of exercise when I was training for a particular endurance race. I didn't diet, my diet was really healthy and I tried to eat extra but couldn't keep up with how much energy my body required for what I was asking it to do. By all metrics I was extremely healthy (low heart rate, blood pressure, normal range BMI, great cardio and strength fitness), but I was also tired, irritable and freezing bloody cold.

I'm not overweight now (size 8/10), but I do absolutely notice that I'm not so cold and tired and feel much much stronger in my own body, even if I can't do a bunch of press ups anymore.

So I get what you mean completely.

But I have also had some health issues recently (unrelated) and I noticed loads of doctors mentioned weight - as in - well you're not overweight, so there's nothing to do there. Which gave me the impression that if you do end up with a health issue, and are overweight, the NHS might well tell you to manage that first before they'll give you any help.

If it's a choice between healthy and happy or unhappy and thin - then rock on, good for you for prioritising wellbeing over aesthetics. I definitely would!

Sounds like she eats very healthily. I am super impressed she can forgo sugar. I often wondered if you could get un-used to it. Not that I plan to try it of course :)

Wayhome · 22/07/2025 20:28

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 20:03

Why?

Because saying that you are going to stick at an obese BMI knowing the health issues that are proven to be linked to excess weight…. Well, seems somewhat reckless if you have children.

Wayhome · 22/07/2025 20:28

you may well be happy with your weight op

but on the basis of this thread, you don’t seem a very happy person!

LoudDenimEagle · 22/07/2025 20:29

I loved being fat but when I commented that on a post a while back I got a MN pile on! My husband still fancies me regardless of size and I found people treat you differently.
Sadly I bust my knee so have had to lose weight now, and yes, I'm definitely colder and more miserable but not in pain so it's a trade off!

Livelovebehappy · 22/07/2025 20:30

If I had a pound for every time I heard that, only for that person to lose weight saying that they were never happy fat - it was just a defence mechanism. I honestly don’t believe anyone is happy fat.

Inyournewdress · 22/07/2025 20:31

Well, I am on the fence here. I don’t feel comfortable or well being overweight but if someone tells me that they do, I am not going to call them a liar! It’s great that you feel fit and well, that’s always good. It’s also great that you are happy with yourself. All this tends to lead to self care.

I would sound a note of caution though. One minute your BMI is 32 and your blood results are normal….but it doesn’t take much upheaval in life for that to slip….suddenly without much wriggle room your bmi is significantly even higher and especially when you hit a certain age…overnight your blood results on are the road to hell.

So relax and enjoy your summer. Keep the positive attitude going, but like you yourself said you probably would…try in due course to find a sustainable way to get the weight heading back down to a level that will be better for your future.

Good for you, as long as you don't go around thinking us 9-stoners feel weak and cold! I'm strong, fit, full of energy and proud of my body!
