To quite like being fat?

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

Deluded in what way. Please explain. Do you think that no one can be fat and happy. Why is that?

You are saying you are happy being grossly overweight and in the obese category. You are saying you are happy with all the health implications you are bringing on yourself. You are saying you are happy to keep being fat with the propensity of gaining more weight as you now have no intention of restricting the amount or type of food you are eating. That's not being happy. That's being deluded into confusing being fat=happy instead of the truth which is eating what I want an not being on a diet= happy.

Let me ask you a question, if you could eat like you are now and be skinny would you choose that or remain fat since it makes you so happy.

I said that i was five foot 3.

I can fit into size 14's too. Depends on the shop.

I wear 14's and 16's

If you’re 5’3” with a BMI of 32 stop kidding yourself you can fit into a size 16 unless it’s elasticated! I used to do the same, go into a decent shop like White Stuff and try on a size 16 and I promise you it won’t fit! That was my wake up call to stop lying to myself!

dottiedodah · 22/07/2025 19:53

Horserider5678 I am in my late 50s.in remission from Ovarian Cancet and 6 rounds of Chemo. It is not advised to lose weight in the first year.i am overweight yes.however Bryony Gordon is a superb example of an intelligent writer .who has run the london marathon 3 times! She has spoken out about this many times .you can be fit and fat.i also had Sepsis 10 years back .thankfully making a full recovery. The Nurse told me that if I had been slimmer I wouldn't have had such a good outcome

SunnySideDeepDown · 22/07/2025 19:54

You won’t enjoy diabetes, achy joints and being on medication for the rest of your life.

Stop making excuses. As if you enjoy feeling hot and out of breath.

Dont punish yourself, but do work out a way to break the chains of food addiction. Being overweight will affect your health much more as you age and you’ll regret allowing it to get worse whilst you pretend you’re the happiest you’ve been.

If you’re cold, wear a jumper, don’t put a stone of weight on!

I have been fat and thin and I would say there are pros and cons to both.

pros for fat

  • lovely big boobs.
  • feel quite sexy and womanly
  • can look really lovely in certain kinds of clothes
  • don’t get as much male attention (though don’t bank on it)
  • fat irons out the wrinkles

pros for thin

  • society seems to think (wrongly in my opinion) that a criteria for beauty is to be thin
  • get a lot of respect just for being thin
  • most clothes are designed to look good on thinner people

cons for being fat

  • depending how fat you are you can face a lot of discrimination as this society is generally fat phobic
  • it can compromise your mobility a bit because your belly can get in the way when you tie your shoelaces etc

cons for being thin

  • if you are too thin you feel cold all the time
  • generally, smaller boobs
  • you can sometimes feel painfully bony when you sit down
  • can get a lot of unwanted male attention.
so take your pick. Perhaps there is something in OP’s idea about seasonal fat/thinness. it makes sense to get fat for winter and then go into hibernation and live off the fat so that you are thin in time for Summer. Hey, that’s a neat idea for a new diet book - The Hibernation Diet. All I need is celebrity endorsement and I will be quids in.

Weird post, ‘lovely big boobs’. You sound like a man.

But most overweight people can’t run a marathon. Don’t use 1 rare example of someone who’s fit and fat to excuse your own situation which isn’t the same.

Post chemo and cancer, of course you should take it easy on yourself. But you may find a little gentle exercise and healthy eating does you the world of good health wise.

Horserider5678 · 22/07/2025 19:56

Hillary17 · 22/07/2025 19:45

I agree with you. I’ve been losing weight for the last 12 months (because I really was too fat) and since losing 4.5 stone my health is going to pot. My knees are ruined. I feel old. I didn’t feel this way when I was fatter! It’s tempting to scoff again for some cushion 😂

Don’t put the weight back on, it’s the weight that has damaged your joints! Take up swimming as it’s really good for strengthening joints! You’ve lost a significant amount of weight in a relatively short time and unless you’ve been exercising regularly you will have lost muscle too which you won’t get back. Fat doesn’t go into your joints at so putting g weight back on will make it worse!

Smokiejoe · 22/07/2025 19:58

I like being this weight, I have a massive bum and I can sit on the concrete without pain. I’m strong enough to lift other grown adults when needed and get complimented on my body more than enough. I can also run, climb and walk actively without worry so my fitness isn’t compromised. Being slim isn’t all that, I like having hips and soft bits.

“Triggered”

i was waiting until the OP threw that old chestnut in.

Every time an op feels defensive and doesn’t get the responses they want…. Bam “triggered” 😆

soupyspoon · 22/07/2025 19:59

Imagine this thread but instead of talking about being overweight, we use the example of being a smoker.

Im happy to smoke, but I might give up in September, cant do it before then due to my mental health, Im content as I am.

Yeah you go girl, pressure to stop smoking is coming from society and as long as you're happy and can run around and breathe ok, its fine, look at all the anti smokers being triggered or worse ex smokers going on about how bad it is.

Big laugh isnt it

RainbowBritee · 22/07/2025 19:59

Sounds like me. I was underweight in my 20s and over the years my natural weight has increased. At nearly 50 I’m overweight. I’m so rarely ill. I’m fit (climbed snowdonia easily two days ago, can ride for miles etc). My skin is clear, I have energy, I feel good. It just feels like this is my healthy weight. My cholesterol is fine, my heart rate and pressure is low. Hair is thick. I just don’t feel like dieting at all.

Having been a size 16-18 almost constantly since I was a teenager apart from some brief spells of being slimmer due to extreme dieting, it's quite strange now mounjaro is giving me the choice almost.
I've lost over 3 stone and am a reliable 14, sometimes 12. Still overweight at BMI 27.

But I think I'm happy being a bit chubby and rounded, it's part of who I am.

As a nurse I disagree with what the nurse told you about sepsis! If you’re overweight it and I’ll you cannot use your intercostal muscles correctly which increases the risk of a chest infection! You can be overweight and fit, however you are still at increased risk of diabetes etc so it then comes down to your definition of fit!

User37482 · 22/07/2025 20:01

I think it also depends on things like waist to hip ratio. I think it’s absolutely fine to not be a perfect BMI but if you are carrying weight around your waist then thats probably going to be quite bad for you. I don’t agree with torturing yourself to be as thin as possible (unless it makes you happy) but I think theres probably a point at which excess weight will make you feel miserable in the long run if it impacts your health.

I do get the bit about the expectation that you should want to be aesthetically pleasing though. That bit sucks.

Why? So you can then be judge, jury and executioner on whether or not she is "allowed" to feel good about herself???

She asked "Am I being unreasonable to quite like being fat?"

She didn't post on 'chat' - I'm happy being fat or whatever,.

She posed a question demanding an answer, was she being unreasonable or not.

I’ve never known anyone on their deathbed who said “I wish I was thinner!”

did You think about this at all before you wrote it? Given how many people literally die from obesity related conditions.

I havent had a single illness since being overweight. I dont have diabetes. I have had my heart and blood pressure checked recently. Everything looks great.

Well you know what, I’m a size 16. I’m fit, I run, I have a good diet and I love the way I look. Because compared to the size 24 I was last September being a 16 is incredible. I don’t feel tired (well apart from the normal life pressures and an incredibly physical job!).
