To quite like being fat?

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

you may well be happy with your weight op

but on the basis of this thread, you don’t seem a very happy person!

Probably because there is a bunch of arseholes trying to bring her down. MN does not like happy people, they like to read doom and gloom to make them feel better about their lives.

Sounds like she eats very healthily. I am super impressed she can forgo sugar. I often wondered if you could get un-used to it. Not that I plan to try it of course :)

I'm forgoing sweets because I binged on so many it made my teeth hurt! I still just had some cake though... I need to go round my mates house and copy her diet! 😂

Not at all
the op just seemed very angry to be asked her weight, which given the OP itself, seems a little odd not to have expected it.

13 stone at 5’3 is at a level that I would say is unhealthy no matter how happy you are. Running must be hard for a start. And if you do have children, I would say not in their interest I. Terms of potential related health issues

I often think about that, like if someone just knocked on my door 3 times a day with a meal and said..eat that. I'd love that. I am not overweight but my diet is definitely not the best.

OP is reacting to the comments made towards her. Demands to know people’s weight and if she has children because she is over weight is rude. Nothing nice to say scroll past.

Geesgirl · 22/07/2025 20:39

3 weeks ago I couldn't take one more minute of being fat so did something about it and I've lost a stone and a half.

I was living half a life.

But if you feel good, fair play op.

I have been 13 stone at 5’5. It was easy to run, lift weights, box, do conditioning training for the boxing, rocket yoga… none of it was harder than it is at 12 stone or 11.5 stone.

But the op told us her lowest weight

and then said she was happiest at current weight

not “rude” to ask what this “happy” weight is

You lost weight
Your fitness will have improved and what you were achieving would have improved
or are you saying you never improved as the weight dropped? Your running speed remained the same? You recovery post circuit training didn’t improve? Your flexibility in yoga didn’t improve?

User85426475 · 22/07/2025 20:43

Hi op I know how you feel. I'm 5 foot 8 and a size 16 and sometimes 18 on the bottom. I would describe myself as tall and curvy with a bit of a tummy and a slightly chubby face (which can look chubby with the wrong camera angle for example). I do have quite large feet and hands so it is sort of in proportion. Don't look hideous and still attract the - particularly older - male gaze which is another thing entirely. I have some days where I would love to be a size 14 - 16 again, smaller stomach, slimmer face, slimmer legs. I have other days where I feel comfortable where I am. I am always on the go with work and the kids etc so physical activity is there its just to lose the weight I know I would have to walk 1.5 hours a day and go back to a largely vegetable diet and frankly I can't be bothered. I've done this enough times to know I can do it, but when I stop being very strict with my diet, the weight comes back. So yep its a difficult one. I was very skinny when I was young and didn't feel at all feminine. Now I am a size 16 at 5 foot 8 I do have curves and have boobs that the young me desperately wanted! So there is that.

XenoBitch · 22/07/2025 20:43

If you like being fat, then why are you aiming to try to lose weight again in September? That makes no sense.

I am fat. I hate it. I hate the way I look and the way I feel.

RegrettingItAgain · 22/07/2025 20:44

Any post on here started by somebody about their weight gets nasty comments. Thin or fat. People love being mean, as well as the more considered and thoughtful comments . I wouldn’t bother responding OP. And I say that as a thin person.

joliefolle · 22/07/2025 20:44

If you feel great, you wouldn't be posting on MN about how you feel "quite happy" being fat until September. You're posting during a hot summer about how warm and cosy you feel. If you feel great and happy then embrace it but stop relating it to your body. You have issues about your weight, hardly surprising as most people do, be they fat, thin or anything in between. So don't focus on your weight. Don't bother with threads about how you're temporarily quite happy being fat. Work on you being happy without reference to your body.

If you’ve put on a stone in weight I would say carry on, if you’ve put on ten stone I would say that’s impacting your health and you should do something about it.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/07/2025 20:46

Yanbu. My DM was fat not obese, she was always lovely and warm, big snuggles.

I'm skinny, I'm always freezing, last week was the first time I had my arms out in Ireland during the heatwave, first time in a year.

I can't wear fashionable clothing without a heavy coat.

DH is overweight, he has a tiny blanket, mine is thick. He was jealous that I slept like a log through the mini heatwave.

I love being warm.

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 20:32

I feel great.

Why does fat equal bad ? It doesn't.

But if you were really happy being fat, then you wouldn’t be saying you’re just going to be fat until September. You’d just be happy staying fat. And I’ve been there. Remember saying I didn’t care about being fat, happy in my own skin and all that, but I lost weight and realised I did care when I was fat. Im not thin now but probably just your average size 14.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 22/07/2025 20:50

Good luck to you, great to feel comfortable in your skin.

I was 13 stone 1 at the beginning of this year and completely miserable, I hated it so much and I am a bit taller at 5ft 6. I looked like I’d been inflated like a balloon!

I've managed to lose 3 stone intermittent fasting and going to the gym and I feel strong and healthy and I look so much better. I will never be skinny but I’m a comfortable size 12 and eating well so feel great. My knees were a terrible problem too and they are much better now, much less painful.

If you are genuinely happy and not experiencing health problems then good luck to you. It’s no one else’s business really is it?

Nobody has to, but you asked if you were being unreasonable to be happy being "fat" so it's reasonable to ask you to quantify being "fat" in order to answer the question.

If your BMI is 32, I don't think YABU, it would depend how you carried the weight and on your general health, but a BMI of 32 shouldn't cause great discomfort in daily life.

If she stays at BMI 32 (or higher), however, she's very likely to face health problems in the future. There's a reason we're told to try to keep it below 25.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/07/2025 20:53

Muffsies · 22/07/2025 19:00

She already said she's going to do something about it when she's ready, she's just not going to ruin her mental health about it in the meantime. Sounds sensible to me, that is doing what's right for herself, not society.

That's what I took from the thread.
This place is bonkers.
You do you OP.
Enjoy your body. Life is very short and unpredictable, Enjoy your summer.

gooseygirl · 22/07/2025 20:53

Lol people absolutely cannot stand a fat person being happy 😂 how dare you enjoy yourself! You should feel shame, fear, disgust, WILL ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?! Etc.

I’m overweight (had a baby 9 weeks ago but was overweight before I conceived tbh). I absolutely love eating without care. I’m completely indifferent to the way my body looks. Don’t love it, don’t hate it, don’t really think about it.

Planning to hop on the MJ train once I stop breastfeeding, simply for the health benefits of being slim. I’ve never had any weight related issues but I think my luck might be run out as I venture into my 30s.

MumWifeOther · 22/07/2025 20:54

I hate being bigger than when I’m at my most comfortable. I feel sluggish and clothes never look as good. I feel so much better when I eat well and excercise. I always feel like sex is better too as I’m more confident.

Watermonkey13 · 22/07/2025 20:54

If you put on weight easily and when you weren't fat you were cold and tired all the time, it sounds like hypothyroidism. Have you had your thyroid checked? You might lose a lot and feel better when on medication.

or are you saying you never improved as the weight dropped? Your running speed remained the same? You recovery post circuit training didn’t improve? Your flexibility in yoga didn’t improve?

I’ve always been fit and strong. No, everything has stayed broadly similar. The weight has come off through changes in my eating.
Flexibility doesn’t improve or decline with weight gain or loss, by the way. I don’t try to run fast, I aim to run for longer without stopping, and that improves with practice. Not weight- I have been on a weight seesaw in recent years.
