Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

What’s with the perfect weight people getting a buzz from telling others they are morbidly obese-If op is happy saying she’s fat - leave it at that . honestly think some people may be slim but blimey they’ve got mental health issues- yes on paper OP may be morbidly obese but I’m quite sure at a bmi of 33 to 34 ish she’s aware of that and prefers the term ‘fat’ - so leave her to it - at a size 16 she’s hardly Dawn French at her fattest. I’m same size and weight and slightly taller and as far as I’m concerned I’m overweight - because that says to me what I feel ok with - and I am losing weight and not happy with it by the way - I do not constantly need smug people busy piling in to make me feel shitter than I do by pulling me up and telling me I’m morbidly obese - as it happens I look pretty decent too and my good looking successful H thinks I always look good and has never once said ‘lose weight’ although he said that health wise getting below 12 would be good for me as I’m 63 . And the lady with the BMI of 21 being chunky - you are having a laugh -

I do not constantly need smug people busy piling in

Agree with much of what you say and there are some unnecessary comments on this thread, but for balance they include smug comments from people who have convinced themselves that anyone who isn't overweight must spend their life in misery dieting and obsessing over their weight.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 11:23

@SchnizelVonKrumm oh I agree with you on that too - I have friends who are ideal weights, eat pretty well and are just nice people, not one of them has ever said to me - you need to lose some weight - interesting thing is though if I’m honest , they all do excercise things far more than I ever did. They actually ate more than I did but also moved a hell of a lot more.

LegoTherapy · 25/07/2025 11:33

@Crikeyalmightynot having a laugh. I’ve been advised to lose weight because I’m pre diabetic and I have plenty of fat on my body with too much around my middle, so yes, I’m chunky.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 12:58

@LegoTherapy I must admit I struggle to believe that at a BMI of 21 - but I will take your word for it - although you have my sympathy at the pre diabetic thing - I had this too - 6 weeks of very low carb indeed turned that around from 44 to 38 . I’ve kept ‘quite ‘ low carb since ( no more than 100g a day) not keto - but low and my levels have remained stable.

I was simply pointing out that the OP stating she was fat and not obese was incorrect according to the NHS 🤷‍♀️

If op is happy saying she’s fat - leave it at that

you did clock that this is AIBU?

I honestly wish I could just be happy being fat. I've lost 3 stone in the past year with Mounjaro, came off it at Christmas and have lost more weight since then but it's such a constant battle. Every meal time has to be thought out, I'm conscious of everything I eat or drink or how much I move or don't move. However when I was "fat" I constantly thought about how fat I was. How my tummy felt; what I looked like.

I'd honestly just like to never think about my weight again!

That is impressive @incognitomouse and don’t lose sight of that! Your post is literally the first ever mumsnet post of a monjaru user who has carried on losing weight successfully post coming off it. And you’ve now been off it 8 months!

SwingTheMonkey · 24/07/2025 14:59

I didn’t say anything different to that? It seemed to be assumed that big boobs were a positive part of being overweight. I was agreeing with a poster that it wasn’t a positive for me.

My bad. I think I was reading some other more negative posts into yours.

incognitomouse · 25/07/2025 15:42

@Faceitprune Yeah I'm really pleased with how it's gone. I've lost another 10lbs since stopping, and I'm not calorie counting or anything. Just trying to maintain through being mindful about food choices, and moving more! Completely changed my eating habits, I think Mounjaro helped me to do that but I never wanted to be on it long term. But it does mean I can't really take my eye off the ball now!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 15:49

@Faceitprune I only did 6 weeks on MJ and lost 9lbs , have lost a further 10lbs since middle of May when I stopped - I did it as a kickstart to be honest and only planned on 3 months even though I had 4 stone I needed to lose, I hated the heartburn and feeling like I had a massive hangover 3 days a week so stopped. I’ve stuck to the principles though, low carb , high protein , lots of water and am strict that I can only have wine 2 nights a week - every other day 1100 to 1300 cals. It did work for me as a motivator and it is possible to lose without but you need very good willpower and it helps that I’m not a snacker and don’t like sweet stuff much - only about 8 months to go of this !!!!

incognitomouse · 25/07/2025 16:13

Well done @Crikeyalmighty

Dontlletmedownbruce · 25/07/2025 16:21

I am jealous OP. I am exactly the same as you in height clothes size and BMI. So I know exactly what you mean. I absolutely hate my fat body. I constantly agonise over losing weight and then feel like a constant failure over it. Every now and again I say feck it I'm just going to be happy, and I have a couple of wonderful months but every time I hit a point of gaining significantly and feeling worse, heavy lethargic and uncomfortable. So it's like I can't win. Recently I've been working on confidence and happiness and gratitude, ive lost a few lbs just by feeling a bit happier and living life with a bit more 'pep in my step'. That's my goal now, self love and activity for health, if loss follows then it's a bonus. If not I'm still a happier person than I was, but on some level I won't be truly happy until I am no longer obese.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 16:32

@incognitomouse thank you - I just want to give people hope that it is possible to lose weight not on WLI - and I’m 63 , as not everyone can afford it or feels comfortable with it or tolerates the side effects. just for me requires an awful lot of willpower - I also use GLP1 appetite suppressant's ( berberine tablets ) once a day - much milder than MJ in effect , but do take the edge off feeling hungry for me.

ellie09 · 25/07/2025 16:36

I think we honestly put too much weight on what the scales say.

I think theres nothing wrong with a bit of extra fat, or if you're a little chubby, as long as you eat relatively healthy and exercise regularly, whether that be walks, gyms, swimming. running etc.

I'm a size 12 and a little chubby. BMI is 29 or so. I walk 90 mins daily with the dog, swim regularly and eat healthy about 80% of the time but allow myself some treats etc also.

I have been a lot happier and comfortable in myself since just enjoying life rather than obsessing on the scales ( I have been 6 stone before and a size 4 and also been up to a 14!)

That saying, I think if your BMI is morbidly obese, and its causing problems with mobility or health issues, then you probably need to reevaluate.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 16:36

@Dontlletmedownbruce my tip in that situation is get your best gladrags on , bang on the make up, make your hair nice, mentally tell yourself you look great - and get yourself in a couple of dance excercise classes a week - all shapes and sizes and sometimes I have to stop or do my own ‘variation’ of moves- but it got me moving and gave me a bit more pep - and I’m not for or agile!! It’s the old fake it till you make it -

PopeJoan2 · 25/07/2025 17:58

To those who say that fat people are at greater risk of diabetes I have long suspected that it is the other way round; that many people with a predisposition for diabetes are fat because of that predisposition which drives them to eat nonstop. it is no surprise to me that diabetes meds are used to treat those individuals’ obesity. Of course I am no scientist.

Why is it never reported that way round in press or at health centres? Is it part of the general bullying of fat people, blaming them for the condition?

Quite possibly because no scientific evidence for it

and it’s your opinion

@ellie09 I’m aiming for BMI of 28 and a size 12/14 and a bit fitter! I honestly will be quite happy with that at 63

Yeah, honestly, its a nice weight to be.

Not too chubby that exercise etc is difficult or you cant find clothes, and also room to have the odd treat etc as well.

I honestly think at any size, as long as you are exercising and eating relatively well, most of the time, you shouldn't be concerned.

My sister is a size 20 and walks more than I do in a day and has a much more demanding job on her feet all day!
