To quite like being fat?

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

And nobody has to tell you their exact weight or bmi, if they dont want to.

Indeed

but given the crux of your Op and the fact you’re perfectly happy telling us your lowest weight… it seems a little odd not to be open and proud of your current weight 🤷‍♀️

I checked the bmi.

I have a bmi of 32 . I am obese class 1 according to the bmi.

Im fitting into size 16 in clothes

With a BMI of 32 you may well be happy but you won’t be healthy. Maybe go speak to your dr?

There is no such thing as pleasantly plump, you’re overweight and it has potential to negatively impact on your health! And to be blunt you will probably get larger! I can say this because I have been overweight for most of my adult life, but not anymore, and my health is so much better! Obesity is a huge drain on the NHS! The fact you mention the very outdated book by Susie Orbach does little to validate your reason to believe obesity is acceptable!

Be careful about criticising other fat people. When you lose a lot of weight it is so easy to become hypercritical of other fatties but all it shows is that becoming thin has been torturous for you because you have given up eating certain foods and in the quantities you desire. You turn all your anger about that on fat people. I have seen this so many times.

SatsumaDog · 22/07/2025 19:37

If you’re happy then that’s great!

For me, being overweight was awful. It wasn’t so much how I looked, but how awful it made me feel. Being a healthy weight, but fit and strong is where I’m happiest. I’ve certainly weighed less and felt awful too. Thankfully I feel I’ve finally found my sweet spot in terms of weight/health.

Sorry, I meant she doesn't eat added or processed sugar or foods that contain it. She does eat fruit.

That's ok.
There are lots of 'sugar free' diet gimmicks and 'influencers' - they say silly things like 'I only eat fruit and veg, no sugar'. 🤔

Ive already answered that several times.

I said that i didnt want to give my current weight , as i knew i would get inmediate abuse for it.

I did write my bmi. And what happened. I immediately got abused fot it.

I'm thin naturally but get very tired if I don't eat meat as I am often borderline anaemic. I've tried being vegetarian and was exhausted all the time, so it's possible when you were eating more healthily something like that was going on?

I was two stones above my normal weight for a year after childbirth and felt much sexier than normal. I don't think thinner is always more attractive. But I was still a healthy weight even then.

RegrettingItAgain · 22/07/2025 19:38

I am happy for you, OP. I honestly think everybody has a weight that feels ‘right’ for them. It might not necessarily fit society’s expectations or that of the medical professionals, but it might feel right just for you. And I mean that for people at both ends of the weight scale. I have a very particular range where I feel okay with my weight.
Enjoy your summer!

AhBiscuits · 22/07/2025 19:39

My dad was always bit overweight. He developed type 2 diabetes, had a stroke in his 50s and died from a heart attack in his 60s. My mum died from cancer in her 60s. Was that related to being overweight? We'll never know but obesity increases the risk of cancer.
Whatever anyone says, fat bodies are not healthy. I guess if you want to throw away your health rather than put on a jumper it's your call.

Toastybuns2021 · 22/07/2025 19:39

Also think about how happy you’ll be after developing diabetes, cancer, a stroke or having a heart attack. All of which are linked to obesity. Sorry. But it’s true.

Horserider5678 · 22/07/2025 19:41

PopeJoan2 · 22/07/2025 19:34

I know quite a few thin people with high blood pressure and diabetes. My own blood pressure remains steady whether I have been thin, fat or indeed obese. No diabetes either.

But your missing the point, being overweight impacts on your health apart from diabetes and high blood pressure which as much as you deny it is associated with obesity. I’ll list more increased risk of needing a joint replacement, increased risk of a stroke and some cancers including bowel and breast cancer! The statistics don’t lie Approximately 80% of people with obesity are estimated to have at least one related health condition.

But you can’t escape the fact that obesity is stretching an already stretched NHS! Why would anyone want an increased risk of high blood pressure, fatty liver, diabetes, stroke and cancers that are linked to obesity!

I am making perfect sense.

I am saying that i feel mentally and physically great being fat.

However i also feel the severe western society pressure to be thin. Which is why i will start a diet again in september.

Pressure to be thin is only in our culture. Ive been to India. In India, people are admired for bing fat.

I told them that people are always trying to be thin in my culture. They said "what, people do that out of choice?"
Because to them: thinness is a sign of lack of food and sickness.

Op if you're happy then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

I found the same thing in Thailand when I was there, fat meant very well fed which in turn meant rich. Being fat is often valued in poor places because it means you have money. The Thai prostitutes were always happy to go for fat, old men.

The one thing I think you need to be aware is that once fat cells are laid down, they are always there and never go away. That makes losing weight harder. It's much easier to not put the weight on in the first place then it is to lose the weight after so please keep that in mind.

I would hate to be as angry as you! Imagine getting that angry!

Do you have anger issues. You can get therapy for that.

PP doesn’t sound angry, you sound deluded though.

Deluded in what way. Please explain. Do you think that no one can be fat and happy. Why is that?

I agree with you. I’ve been losing weight for the last 12 months (because I really was too fat) and since losing 4.5 stone my health is going to pot. My knees are ruined. I feel old. I didn’t feel this way when I was fatter! It’s tempting to scoff again for some cushion 😂

everythingsnotmadeofgold · 22/07/2025 19:45

OP, you say size 16 is average. You are 5 foot 2. It makes a huge difference. If you were 5 foot 9 your BMI would not be so high. I am 5 foot 1 and if I was a size 16 I would be grossly overweight.

you seem surprised that people are curious about the weight you are at that you proclaim to be so happy at!! So happy you started a thread about it.

But god forbid anyone actually ask this “happy” weight!!!

I wear 14's and 16's

MyUmberSeal · 22/07/2025 19:31

Totally agree. Fat and happy needs no endorsement. Fat and unsure whether its happy or not, well then validation is required.

I disagree only she can decide if she’s happy with having a BMI of 32. Having to try and get validation from total strangers proves she’s not happy. I know how much I weighed when my BMI was 32 and unless she’s wearing elasticated clothing no way is she a size 16. She is exhibiting all the behaviours I did when I was obese and looking back I was kidding myself I was happy!

AhBiscuits · 22/07/2025 19:51

At 5ft 3 and BMI 32, she must weigh just below 13 stone.

Keepitrealnomists · 22/07/2025 19:51

This thread, wow.
OP, im 5ft.1 and at my heaviest after having my DC i weighted 17st 2, I felt and looked hideous, my current weight 3 years later is a healthy 8st 10. I'm lucky to have no health conditions.
As someone who used to be very very overweight, everything is easier now im slim.
I'm much happier and while it's not been easy it's worth it.
I don't believe anyone who is obese and happy.
You might feel happy atm but the circle will continue of eating, dieting, exercise, mood swings, ect
