To quite like being fat?

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

Ok, everyone to their own.

I would hate myself, but that would be down to the unfortunate "upbringing" my generation suffered in the 80s and 90s, in a Communist country.

I checked the bmi.

I have a bmi of 32 . I am obese class 1 according to the bmi.

Im fitting into size 16 in clothes

I have a bmi of 26 and wear a size 16….

Anyway, by MN standards I’d be hideously overweight, but I get plenty of exercise, I swim, I run, I walk. And I eat well. So good for you op!

if you’re happy whose to tell you otherwise!

IShouldNotCoco · 22/07/2025 18:31

For me I hate not being slim. It makes me miserable. I have a very small frame and put weight on depressingly easily. If I’m slim feel more confident. I am generally considered to be good looking and become invisible if I’m overweight. Though, the flip side is that women are much nicer to me.

I really think each to their own though.

what a shallow post

I knew your post would bring out the self-righteous nasties, but I’m just happy that you are feeling content, OP. Good for you!

Thank you!

For fuck sake. The nastiness on here is unrel

I am happy with my weight.

However i knew that poster was asking me my weight, specificlly to be nasty to me.

If i wasnt fat enough, she would have sneered at me about that, that i was faking being fat. If i was too fat she would have said that i was glorifying being fat

So no i dont have to answer a question that is going to lead to abuse, from an already unkind poster.

You have no basis whatsoever to assume I was going to abuse you about your weight.

Havent they got quite a big obesity problem in India, including quite fat children? I think the authorities are quite concerned about it.

What is the purpose of this thread OP?

I am of Indian origin. They don't have a big obesity problem. They have a big diabetes problem because Indians tend to accumulate weight in their tummies. Like me. My entire family are slim or mildly pudgy diabetics.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 22/07/2025 19:04

I don't know how old you are, but bear in mind that you may well be working until you are > 60 years old.

You will find that once you reach middle age/menopause, your body's ability to work efficiently with excess weight will be really compromised and your feet, knees and hips will not be able to bear it. You only need to people-watch a high street for five minutes to see overweight middle-aged people walking gingerly/unsteady gait/sticks/hobbling. By the time you reach this age, you may find the NHS has run out of plastic knees and the government has run out of disability/mobility benefits. You could be setting yourself up for misery or poverty as your ability to work will be curtailed, whilst still having many years before your pensions kick in.

You need to find a compromise between enjoying feeling substantial and future-proofing your body by staying within sensible weight limits.

EatMoreChocolate44 · 22/07/2025 19:05

Good for you OP! A refreshing attitude.

Why?

everythingsnotmadeofgold · 22/07/2025 19:07

LessOfThis · 22/07/2025 19:06

Why?

Because it makes a huge difference. If someone is 5 foot 9 and a size 16 and someone is 5 foot 2 and a size 16.

I love never being hungry and rarely being hit on by creepy men or wolf whistled at. I lost a few pounds recently, and felt the male gaze returning. No thanks!

This has happened to me. I lost a few stone through illness. This is obviously an acceptable weight now as I've noticed a lot more male interest and I'm not exactly a stunner. 🙄

LadyTable · 22/07/2025 19:09

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 18:40

I am making perfect sense.

I am saying that i feel mentally and physically great being fat.

However i also feel the severe western society pressure to be thin. Which is why i will start a diet again in september.

Pressure to be thin is only in our culture. Ive been to India. In India, people are admired for bing fat.

I told them that people are always trying to be thin in my culture. They said "what, people do that out of choice?"
Because to them: thinness is a sign of lack of food and sickness.

I think this is really insulting to Indian people.

They're not stupid, they know how damaging obesity can be and they know that yes, many people actually keep themselves thin through choice.

You've taken the words of presumably a few ignorant people in India, and made it look like you're talking about Indian people in general.

Around half the adult population in India are overweight or obese, and most will be well aware of the dangers.

MysteryNameChange · 22/07/2025 19:11

I'm the same.

I'm technically obese but I can still run and lift everything I need to. I have a lot more strength and energy than when I was thin.

DiscoBob · 22/07/2025 19:11

As long as you're not physically uncomfortable then of course there's nothing wrong with being fat. Some people naturally do carry more weight or can't eat as much and be slim, some people enjoy eating a lot.

My friend is really super active and healthy but also fat. She doesn't eat sugar or drink booze, cycles all the time, goes hiking, does loads of exercise. I've other friends who are very slim who are much less active and healthy.

So it's about how you feel in yourself. Thin doesn't always mean healthier or happier.

Muffsies · 22/07/2025 19:11

AntiquePenguin · 22/07/2025 18:56

I'm not sure why you would post an AIBU thread about whether you are being unreasonable to be happy about 'being fat' - which is quite an inflammatory way of putting it - and not expect to be asked questions,

Questions, asked in a respectful way is fine, obviously. It was not fine the way some people piled-on her and demanded answers as if she was hiding something, or doing something wrong. Op has been very open and forthcoming, there was no need for it.

DollydaydreamTheThird · 22/07/2025 19:12

@Flumpflimpo this is the best post I've seen on mumsnet for ages. I was in stitches at the beginning when the skinny minnies simply could not wrap their heads around you being happy about being fat. Love your body, love yourself, be happy. 😊💯

Has she a medical issue that is making her fat then as it is not through diet?

I love it OP!

Mumsnet is full of competitive undereaters who are still stuck in 90s diet culture.

If you eat well and take care of yourself I think it’s very possible to be fat and healthy. I know several people where this is the case.

(I’m a very fit lean person and I still believe in body diversity)

The skinny minnies? Do you not think there might be overweight people (the majority of which are actively trying to lose weight) not understanding how someone could enjoy being fat?

And thank you, we should all love our bodies, it's true.

I have been fat and thin and I would say there are pros and cons to both.

pros for fat

  • lovely big boobs.
  • feel quite sexy and womanly
  • can look really lovely in certain kinds of clothes
  • don’t get as much male attention (though don’t bank on it)
  • fat irons out the wrinkles

pros for thin

  • society seems to think (wrongly in my opinion) that a criteria for beauty is to be thin
  • get a lot of respect just for being thin
  • most clothes are designed to look good on thinner people

cons for being fat

  • depending how fat you are you can face a lot of discrimination as this society is generally fat phobic
  • it can compromise your mobility a bit because your belly can get in the way when you tie your shoelaces etc

cons for being thin

  • if you are too thin you feel cold all the time
  • generally, smaller boobs
  • you can sometimes feel painfully bony when you sit down
  • can get a lot of unwanted male attention.
so take your pick. Perhaps there is something in OP’s idea about seasonal fat/thinness. it makes sense to get fat for winter and then go into hibernation and live off the fat so that you are thin in time for Summer. Hey, that’s a neat idea for a new diet book - The Hibernation Diet. All I need is celebrity endorsement and I will be quids in.
SnowFrogJelly · 22/07/2025 19:17

That’s fine until it starts to affect your health…

wizzywig · 22/07/2025 19:18

Op it being ok to be fat in India is no longer the case. Yes they'll call it 'healthy' but it always meant fat and now its not a good thing.

But I was your height and weight and have lost loads of weight on mounjaro. I had no health concerns, I still don't. I had amazing boobs and an arse and now it's gone. Hey ho. You do you x
