Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 17:33

There was one time that i was 9 stone. This year i am the heaviest i have ever been.

Every week for that last year i have been thinking that i must lose weight, and i have been trying every diet , and thinking about food all the time.

I was so stressed from it all that i decided to give myself and not think about dieting for one month.

I was just thinking this month, I quite emjoy being fat. Im not morbidly obese, i am fat.

I feel nice and warm and cozy

When i was thin, i rememember feeling cold and having low energy a lot.

Has anyone else felt the same?

I was pretty happy with myself when overweight but my body wouldn't settle there, the weight just kept going up and up. From healthy BMI to obese in about 5 years. Middle age and the death of my metabolism, probably. I had to do something.

Is your weight pretty stable, OP?

BashfulClam · 22/07/2025 21:40

I’m overweight, I am still freeing all the time so it’s nothing to do with my weight. I’m uncomfortable and hate it plus I’m 250% more likely to have a cardiac health issue. I have lost 4 stone but still have a bit to go…

FridayFeelingmidweek · 22/07/2025 21:40

Lovely to be comfortable in your skin. Be healthy, be happy 😊

If my husband put on a lot of weight, I would hate it too.

Same. I wouldn't be attracted to my husband if he gained a lot of weight. I don't like the look or what it represents, and our lifestyles would be incompatible.

Icebreakhell · 22/07/2025 21:42

I know what you’re saying op.

My weight has fluctuated between size 8-16 my adult life. I was no happier or unhappier at any size. I also love eating well and resent deprivation. A couple of health scares put me on Mounjaro and I feel physically fitter now I’m size 12. I probably look better but don’t really give a toss about that. I won’t go too much further.

Im glad you’re content and also you’re not that big at a 16. When I was a 16 I was able to walk miles etc. it’s hardly disabling.

TipsyFairyHicHicHic · 22/07/2025 21:42

You're clearly very unhappy and suffering from an eating disorder, an addiction like smoking and drinking.

Sadly, you might only ask for help when you have a serious health scare.

Think about that and get some help- start with your GP.

TipsyFairyHicHicHic · 22/07/2025 21:43

Dress sizes are rubbish. Vanity sizes
Her BMI shows obese.

nam3c4ang3 · 22/07/2025 21:43

Surely to each their own - i am happy being slim.

“Triggered”

i was waiting until the OP threw that old chestnut in.

Every time an op feels defensive and doesn’t get the responses they want…. Bam “triggered” 😆

Edited

You do sound triggered, though.

What I found interesting recently having lost a lot of weight was how much more able I am to tolerate the heat. We were on holiday during that recent heatwave and it was 36 degrees one day. It was hot but I felt okay. That would have absolutely floored me with my 5 extra stone on. It would have been awful. Even late 20s was a struggle with so much extra weight to carry. I did see quite a lot of larger people really visibly struggling with that heat too and felt quite glad that was no longer me. It was a bit of a revelation sort of moment for me.

I definitely do feel the cold more though but I kind of prefer that way round as there’s so many ways to warm up but cooling down is really difficult. I don’t like being cold but I prefer being cold and adding clothes to being sweating and uncomfortable in the heat. Especially with the way the climate is going!

AntiquePenguin · 22/07/2025 17:58

When you say 'fat' - what is your BMI?

It's bloody uncomfortable being genuinely fat. In summer you're too hot and have to contend with thigh chafing. In winter you're still too hot because everyone else has the heating up.

Well I'm morbidly obese and I much prefer the hot weather to cold weather. Chub rub is no longer a thing since I discovered cycling shorts underwear. I so sweat a bit in the first few days of a heatwave but once I have acclimatised, usually after about a week, I am fine in anything upto about 32/33 deg before I start to get too hot.

Maybe I'd be more comfortable if I was a lot thinner but since I haven't been a lot thinner for many years, I can only go on how I feel now and I am always astonished at how often people complain about being hot when I feel absolutely fine really

EggCustardTartt · 22/07/2025 21:48

Well, if you're happy then who cares what anyone else thinks. But I'm yet to be convinced that the average chubby wouldn't choose to be slim if they could just click their fingers and magically shed the weight.

AngelicKaty · 22/07/2025 21:50

@icantgetnopeace "I don’t think 16 is average in the UK, isn’t it 12-14?" You've obviously never heard of the (now defunct) clothing brand, launched in 1991 by Dawn French and Helen Teague, called "1647" - so named because, at that time, 47% of UK women were size 16 and above. That percentage has increased in the last 30+ years so that 16 is absolutely the "average" women's clothing size now.

isyouready · 22/07/2025 21:51

I read that over weight old people live longer. Not sure if that's true. But if you feel good OP then good for you

Bepo77 · 22/07/2025 21:53

Not really sure what you were hoping to get from this thread but, cool! I'm a size 8 and I'm happy too, I don't really think about anyone else's figure tbh

The OP is obese.

Obesity is linked to a higher rate of premature death.

IShouldNotCoco · 22/07/2025 21:54

Spaglasagneaise · 22/07/2025 19:02

what a shallow post

Not really. Why is it shallow to not enjoy being overweight? It doesn’t suit me. As has been said, some people carry weight much better than others.

isyouready · 22/07/2025 21:51

There was some studies that found this but I believe more to do with the fact that elderly people fair better with a bit of extra weight as it is somewhat protective against frailty - or if periods of illness prevent them from eating enough. Also the normal BMI people in the study were more likely to be smokers and therefore higher rates of death from lung cancer. So really these variables need to be controlled before this can definitively be said. Which is a shame as I have an overweight BMI! 🤣

IShouldNotCoco · 22/07/2025 21:56

Anchorage56 · 22/07/2025 17:57

And carrying around lots of extra weight doesnt tire you out more? I've never been fat so I dont know what it feels like, I just assumed if you are carrying around a certain amount of extra weight it would make certain things harder?

It does. It’s tiring. Much easier to move around when you’re slim.

Ok that's true but BB king lived to 89 and he was obese

yellowdress34 · 22/07/2025 21:57

I have a feeling you're not that old, OP. The older you get, the worse being fat feels, and the weight related health-problems start to rear their head.

GoldPoster · 22/07/2025 21:58

Flumpflimpo · 22/07/2025 18:23

I am happy being fat.

However i feel the societal pressure to be thin. I feel like society says it is "wrong" to be fat.

How come so many people are fat if there’s all this pressure to be thin?

I see more pressure to be fat to be honest.

AntiquePenguin · 22/07/2025 22:01

isyouready · 22/07/2025 21:57

Ok that's true but BB king lived to 89 and he was obese

And everyone knows of someone who smoked 40 cigs a day and lived to 98 ...

It can't be denied some people have longevity genes that override lifestyle factors, just as some people are predisposed to life-limiting illness despite leading a healthy lifestyle, but in general, obesity has a negative impact on health and life expectancy.

My grandad lived to 91 and smoked heavily 🤷‍♂️

I still can't see the NHS recommending we take notes from either of them.
